Bummer we have to play the double header tomorrow, we could have bought another day before making a decision on the rotation. Anyone know why we are playing tomorrow, or know anything about how those decisions are made? We’ll obviously be in KC more than a few times this year.

I’m sure the basic sentiment is, you’d better make it up as soon as you can, if you can, because you never know what happens later in the season. Typically there are more off-days in April than later on.

KC has an offday Monday (when the Indians are playing the Yankees) so there would not be the same impact on them

The forecast for tomorrow doesn’t look good either, so the team might have an extra two days to make a decision.

The rainout allowed the Tigers to move 9 percentage points ahead of the Indians.
Fortunately, there are still 2 ML teams with worse records.
by palcal on Apr 24, 2008 3:10 AM EDT 0 recs
To be fair, they’re actually .9 percentage points ahead.

As a sports fan, I am more angry that there wasn’t an Cavs playoff game to fill the void last night. Stupid NBA schedule.

Thoughts so far:
1) Jamey, keep taking pitches. Unreal. And wow, he runs well. Very impressive to score on Victor’s single.
2) Gark, awesome first inning at bat. You could see him slam his helmet after swinging at ball four on pitch number 13. He’s seeing it well.
3) Pronk over-analysis of the night: After Tomko threw four straight balls, and sitting on a 1-0 pitch, I bet the 2006 Pronk hits that thigh-high, grooved fastball onto the lawn. Meh.
4) Excellent base running so far. AbaCab did the right thing (or Skinner did) on that attempt to stretch, and it was just a crazy good throw and catch.
5) At some point, Fausto will have to correct his K/BB ratio, or this can’t continue. Wow. I thought his second-half K rate rose last year, so this is not encouraging.

Last night/this night’s thread? Crazy. Like Fausto putting half the Royals lineup on the bases.
But keep racking up those pitches on Tomko, let’s burn down their bullpen.

Finally made it! The site has been showing as down for me, even after the fix. Figured out that I had to go to the SB Nation site first. Anyway, let’s sweep us a double header, and a series.

I love these kind of games: I’ll look at the scoreboard on GameCenter, then do some busywork for a few minutes, look in again and we’ve gained another run or three. “Whoa, how the hell did we do that?” etc.
Another 80 or so more of these would be just ducky.

So does anyone else think Francisco is auditioning for J-Mike’s job?
NBR (No Borowski Run): Refers to that run which puts the Indians up by 4 over an opponent, thereby drastically reducing the chances of Joe Borowski pitching in a game.

oh. and no complaints with jamie carroll so far. but this is me voicing my displeasure with having to give up sean smith to get him. for taking on $2M+ in salary for a guy who can’t hit, the indians shouldn’t have had to give up a guy as decent as smith.
by xrickx on Apr 24, 2008 7:20 PM EDT 0 recs
“Taking on” a $2M+ salary?
That is basically the minimum salary for veterans who aren’t injured. You could look it up. The 2009 club option is a nice bonus for us.

I’m just not a fan. I’d just as soon go with the likes of the ever-available Ray Olmedo’s of the world, only because I’m not so sure Carroll, over the course of a season, brings anything that special (his to-date Barry Bond’s OBP impersonation aside).

Don’t know if I made my point clear. I thought of Carroll as a salary dump. The Rockies had Clint Barmes and Omar Quintanilla. Everyone knew Carroll was out the door. Giving up Shawn Nottingham….fine. But Sean Smith…with three full option years left. You just never know…

I don’t like it either from the standpoint of long-term control, but isn’t this also a case of trading respective depth? Carroll, while a nice asset, was third on their list for that type of player. Smith similarly was third on a list of similar players behind Sowers and Laffey, 23-24-ish, soft-tosser in Buffalo waiting for the call. Prospects are valuable, but they’re not major leaguers; sometimes it’s easy to forget that.
Olmedos are not ever-available, and they’re a dicey proposition. Toronto got him off waivers, which is how we got Mike Rouse and Craig Breslow, among others. But we’re almost the last in line on the waiver wire from last September through the end of this month, by virtue of our super-fine record last year, and I assume you have noticed, Jamey Carroll is apparently better than Mike Rouse.

Carroll will prove to be an important piece of this year’s team. Relying on AstroCab to perform at last year’s level and to hope that Barfield bounces back. Carroll is cheap insurance. He’s got the glove and has hit pretty well before. I liked the pick-up when we made it and I like it better now. Giving up the lesser of our abundance of soft tossing lefties is certainly worth the price.

Stanford had evidently been cut loose by the Nats. He had 5 app. (3 starts) at Columbus, with a Sabathia-like 10.05 ERA, helped along by 19 hits and 9 walks in 14 1/3 IP. Stats. But you can never have too many lefties. Unless you’re the Nats.
