Tim McCarver. Bleah. I’d rather have evasive surgery than listen to commentating. Time for the mute button and WTAM.

This Yankee lineup is not very scary looking today

What a crappy lineup for the spankees. They must be doing GW a solid by hiring the former attorney general to play 2nd base, either that or he picked up some dirt on the Steinbrenners with a warrantless wiretap.

Dellucci seems to be thinking the same way, though I think the last two pitches MAY have been strikes, but I certainly don’t think the first one was, and the other two were certainly borderline at least, and Kennedy is even less established than Sowers, despite all the hype about him.
I sure hope we adapt to Kennedy in-game and not be shut down by another guy we’ve never seen before – we need to adapt in-game and hit him at some point, if not early.
Just my 2 cents. :-)

Il faut d'abord durer.
by CU Adam on Apr 26, 2008 4:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Why send Giambi?
It actually is a sound move. You’ve got a runner on 1B with two outs, so the value of losing that runner is minimal. On top of that you’ve got an 0-2 count on the batter.
If (when) Giambi gets caught, what you’ve lost in run expectation is minimal—but you’ve gained two strikes on the batter, who gets to start over the next inning at 0-0.
by Jay on Apr 26, 2008 4:28 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
While this is true, I don’t necessarily see the logic of doing it with someone as slow as Giambi, where the likelihood of him actually stealing successfully can’t be too high.

if Sowers does well today, will he stay on the roster and they send down Mastny on Monday or will they send him down Monday and just go with Laffey while Westbrook is out?
by palcal on Apr 26, 2008 4:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If you send Mastny down, you can’t recall him for 20 days unless someone else goes on the DL, so the question is, what other reliever would we bring up next week to take his spot? And you can’t say Elarton, because he’s not on the 40-man.

You’re right, it is 10 days.
I always get this mixed up. 20 days is the number a player has to spend in the minors (over the whole season) in order to actually use up an option. Which means that Mastny hasn’t used one up yet.

from Yahoo Sports: Westbrook received a cortisone shot in his back Friday.
Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff said the timetable for Westbrook’s recovery changed because the symptoms of his injury persisted for a week since he got hurt. Soloff said the injection seemed to help Westbrook.
Soloff also said closer Joe Borowski will begin playing catch on Monday. Borowski has been out since April 15 with a strained triceps muscle and is expected to miss one month.

All things considered—Sowers’ final line will reflect how well he pitched. Which is to say, fine, but not great.
by tabler84 on Apr 26, 2008 6:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Arguably, though, he pitched a bit better than the line suggests – Dellucci’s poor choice at defending that ball allowed 3 runs to come in. In all probability, it should be 1-2 runs. Sizemore talks about times of the game when you know to come in and take a chance or to back off and play it safe. That was a time when Dellucci should have played it safe and only give up 1-2 runs.
Therefore, while I think Sowers wasn’t outstanding, I certainly think he was a bit above-average, and certainly better than Kennedy, who was fortunate he only gave up 3 runs in my opinion – he was pretty much erratic all day, moreso than Sowers until that final inning.
Just my 2 cents – no offense.

There, Dellucci had to play it “smart” and cut that ball off – even if they only get 1-2 runs, that’s better than taking a chance and missing. At least Lewis got out of it with the tie intact. Now, our offense needs to hit the Yankee bullpen.

You’re wrong, and you’re not in the same country as right.
Are you under the impression that DD could have charged that ball head on, fielded it on one hop, and then thrown home? Because only in that circumstance could he occasionally - and often not - gotten the runner at home. But this ball was tailing.
by tabler84 on Apr 26, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Especially with 2 outs – it’s quite likely 2 runs score, but that’s still better than 3 runs, which is why Dellucci should have played it “safe” there, but still, it’s a tie game and we face the Yankee bullpen – this game is still quite winnable.
