This Yankee lineup is not very scary looking today
You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person
Adding to that – A-Rod, Abreu and Cano are the only Yankee hitters who really scare me

Dellucci seems to be thinking the same way, though I think the last two pitches MAY have been strikes, but I certainly don’t think the first one was, and the other two were certainly borderline at least, and Kennedy is even less established than Sowers, despite all the hype about him.
I sure hope we adapt to Kennedy in-game and not be shut down by another guy we’ve never seen before – we need to adapt in-game and hit him at some point, if not early.
Just my 2 cents. :-)
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Yeah, but what does “close” mean? The Indians were arguably close on Manny and Thome, but it’s a matter of opinion.
Anyway … it won’t be close.
McCarver said it, so it must be true. $130M is close to $150M. I mean, what’s the difference? Besides $20,000,000?
Il faut d'abord durer.
The Indians’ offer may be very close in average annual salary, but some other team will definitely offer one more year and probably two more. That will leave grand total guarantee that is not close.
It’s ok, we’re going to get Shelley on a DP here.

Why send Giambi?
It actually is a sound move. You’ve got a runner on 1B with two outs, so the value of losing that runner is minimal. On top of that you’ve got an 0-2 count on the batter.
If (when) Giambi gets caught, what you’ve lost in run expectation is minimal—but you’ve gained two strikes on the batter, who gets to start over the next inning at 0-0.
While this is true, I don’t necessarily see the logic of doing it with someone as slow as Giambi, where the likelihood of him actually stealing successfully can’t be too high.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
I wish I had a stopwatch handy so I could time how long they talk about the Red Sox during an Indians Yankees game.
It’s like watching college basketball when Michigan State and Indiana are playing and Dick Vitale talks about Duke for 45 minutes.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Actually, strategically that might be the best thing. Walk a run in to get to Dellucci instead of pitching to Sizemore.
Il faut d'abord durer.

Society made him throw that pitch.

“On the surface, Ian Kennedy was the vivacious young pitcher we all knew him to be. But his soul was in Antartica, freezing with the knowledge of the way opposing hitters can be cruel, the way umpires can be unresponsive, and as he writes so eloquently in his optional assignment note, the way life can suck. We’ll all miss the Yankees’ little Eskimo. Let’s hope he’s rubbing noses … with Jesus.”

Is Buck suggesting that the Indians have been lucky in scoring these runs? That the Yankees have been unlucky? How dare he?!?
it has been luck… I mean who would have thought… those midges would get into Kennedys face and disrupt his pitching. Kruk should have never left his brief case on the pitchers mound… I still don’t get that stupid commecial.
So seriously, do the Yankees try sending Kennedy down? I have no idea who they’d call up in his place (Igawa?), but I feel like that’d be a classic Yankee reaction.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
if Sowers does well today, will he stay on the roster and they send down Mastny on Monday or will they send him down Monday and just go with Laffey while Westbrook is out?
If you send Mastny down, you can’t recall him for 20 days unless someone else goes on the DL, so the question is, what other reliever would we bring up next week to take his spot? And you can’t say Elarton, because he’s not on the 40-man.
Didn’t it used to be less than 20 days?

from Yahoo Sports: Westbrook received a cortisone shot in his back Friday.
Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff said the timetable for Westbrook’s recovery changed because the symptoms of his injury persisted for a week since he got hurt. Soloff said the injection seemed to help Westbrook.
Soloff also said closer Joe Borowski will begin playing catch on Monday. Borowski has been out since April 15 with a strained triceps muscle and is expected to miss one month.
Despite all the love so far, I don’t think Sowers looks good

I don’t know, he’s kinda going with the Paul Byrd “pitch to contact” strategy. He’s not going to overpower anybody, but if you can keep getting them to hit weak grounders or popups, it works.

My all time favorite McCarver-ism happened a few years ago, Dodgers @ Braves. Furcal just turns an unasissted triple play.:

nice job for 5 innings
I vote to keep both Sowers and Laffey on the roster while Westbrook is out, at least for the next 2 weeks
Victor Martinez has to have one of the least productive .360ish averages ever. I want some bombs!
oh, and I want the good Garko back
“You would think that a leadoff walk would lead to more big innings than a leadoff home run. But we’ve done the research and it turns out that more big innings have come from leadoff home runs than leadoff walks.”

Have they noted yet that anyone in particular is warming? I realize Buck & McCarver can’t be bothered to talk about the game, of course.

Freakin’ Giambi. I thought for a second that he’d leaned in & taken that on the body armor, but he actually took it in the back elbow. All those steroids must numb him to pain.

All things considered—Sowers’ final line will reflect how well he pitched. Which is to say, fine, but not great.
Arguably, though, he pitched a bit better than the line suggests – Dellucci’s poor choice at defending that ball allowed 3 runs to come in. In all probability, it should be 1-2 runs. Sizemore talks about times of the game when you know to come in and take a chance or to back off and play it safe. That was a time when Dellucci should have played it safe and only give up 1-2 runs.
Therefore, while I think Sowers wasn’t outstanding, I certainly think he was a bit above-average, and certainly better than Kennedy, who was fortunate he only gave up 3 runs in my opinion – he was pretty much erratic all day, moreso than Sowers until that final inning.
Just my 2 cents – no offense.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Officially, I am retiring the “We Can’t Sign Bonds Because of Defense” argument.
Delluchi is brutal out there.
if looch takes a few steps BACK instead of diving sideways, he gets it soon enough for one – MAYBE two runs to score.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
not if you have a guy with a good arm out there

Watching that ball again, I’m agreeing with Jay that it was impossible to play that on the bounce. It was tailing away.

Two outs, they’re going on contact. Unless that’s Garko on 2d or something, that’s 2 runs almost every time.
Il faut d'abord durer.
You’re wrong, and you’re not in the same country as right.
Are you under the impression that DD could have charged that ball head on, fielded it on one hop, and then thrown home? Because only in that circumstance could he occasionally - and often not - gotten the runner at home. But this ball was tailing.
Especially with 2 outs – it’s quite likely 2 runs score, but that’s still better than 3 runs, which is why Dellucci should have played it “safe” there, but still, it’s a tie game and we face the Yankee bullpen – this game is still quite winnable.
Let’s Go Tribe! :-)
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
You guys are absolutely delusional.
Watch the replay later on. He’s running all out, dives, can’t get to the ball as it tails away from him.
Nobody runs faster than that baseball was traveling. If he “backs up,” he doesn’t come within two yards of the ball.
Meh, after the replay, I’m inclined to agree.
But Jay, I’ll say again: DD’s routes to the ball have been dreadful this week, so we’ve got some analysis based on previous results.
all because the poor yankee pitcher can’t throw a strike. i doubt bob feller ever complained about crap like that

We are small balling with three innings to go against the Yankees. We are small balling against a pitcher who can’t throw strikes consistently. Wedge got what he deserved, eh?
