Game Thread: April 3, 2008 - 8th inning
Chicago @ Cleveland
The saga continues ...
This is Jay posting this. There is something weird with the Game Thread posting where it seems almost random who gets "credited" with it. Ryan posted one below with my name on it. Whatever. [Jay]

So clutch would be getting a hit now. Not one with no one on, even if it was the first hit.

Jay, is there still technically a comment limit to the game threads or is this just for bragging at SB Nation meetings?
by NickFantana on Apr 3, 2008 1:52 PM EDT 0 recs
Meetings?
I haven't even met Ryan, let alone the guys from the other sites.
There's no limit, but the new platform isn't that great with loading long threads.

I imagine you guys meeting at the Days Inn in Lawrence Kansas every few months and meeting around one of those tables, like the co-op.

I will say that the time machines seem to be a little more extreme with the new system.

Brilliant outing by Westbrook now reduced to merely very good and seeming downright bad.

He retired the first five batters on 12 pitches, and we were all jacked up about it.

you're too hard on Jake, Jay. If he pitches like this most times out, he is going to have a hell of a year.

It's actually a great outing, I only meant that it feels lousy because we've been tied or losing the whole game.

Also, we're almost getting no-hit despite a fair number of long drives for outs.
And Jermaine Dye sucks so we almost scored more runs that way.

no. But I'm wondering if that Microsoft Starlight or whatever its called would make this better. I tried to download it last night, but it took too long.

I haven't had any problems with it the past two years, but I'm on EI this year & it sounds like some people have been having issues with mlb.tv at the start of the season.

I'd chalk it up to early season kinks that need to be worked up. I've had it for the last 2.5 years and its worked very well for me. EI is obviously better if you can afford it.

What do you mean? Brian Anderson is a defensive sub, that's all. Swisher is considered a bit of a stretch in CF.

They'll miss him in extras, which with that bullpen, are at least somewhat likely.

It wasn't that close. Blake kinda fell down to his left, maybe if he'd actually taken a step & then dove it would've helped.. but who knows. It was pretty hard hit.

Allright, Blake is starting to kill me. Who stuck a hatchet in his back? And why aren't we going to a lefty with Thome coming to the plate?

Why let Jake even pitch the 8th, especially if you're gonna pull him with any runners on?

Chalk it up to Wedgie
This is another blunder by Wedge IMO. Westbrook looked good for 7, why not leave it at that and turn it over to the pen. If Wedge has one weakness it's managing his pitching staff. I know Westbrook was going well but the last 2 innings he's had baserunners, no need to risk it, good game Jake.
by Tribe_Hippie on Apr 3, 2008 2:00 PM EDT 0 recs
The same bullpen that looked so great the last two days? I think you stay with Jake unless there's a good reason not to.

Your criticism makes no sense. Jake gave up one hard-hit ball out of the previous six batters. He was only in trouble in the 7th because of an error and a bunt, and he got out of it beautifully. At 87 pitches, there was no real reason to pull him.

Nice barehand grab by Peralta of a slow roller up the middle & then guns it to first to get Konerko.
