Game Thread: April 6, 2008
Cleveland Indians @ Oakland Athletics
Gametime: 4:05 (STO)
This is Blanton's third start of the year, his previous two came against the Red Sox (the series was split between Japan and Oakland). He did well all things considered, allowing 5 runs in 11.2 innings between the two starts.
Cliff Lee is making his first start of probably the most important season of his career. And what's his prescription for getting back on track?
"I don't want to give a scouting report on how I'm pitching," Lee said, "but I need to mix my pitches better, pretty much, and be a little more crisp with my locations. [Not doing that] is what got me in trouble last year.
So far, so good.

It'd be nice to see a well played ballgame today, since it's been ugly for the last couple. Is Victor in the lineup?

Sizemore
Cabrera
Hafner
Garko
Peralta
Dellucci
Michaels
Marte
Shoppach
grotesque lineup
by ASP on Apr 6, 2008 3:29 PM EDT 0 recs
Yeah... Wedge is helping Cliff much with that. Sizemore through Peralta better combine for about 12 hits and 8 rbis.

With the mighty combination of our LF platoon thus far, the solution is obviously to play them both at the same time.

Off topic, watching the Sawx and the Jays on TBS. Former Tribesman John McDonald just made a freaking awesome play to throw out everyone's favorite New Englander, DBag Pedroia.
And now as I write this, he got laid out in a collision with his center fielder.

Playing Super Bash Brothers last night, I can up with the idea for you that you should change your avatar to Wario whenever you are drinking and posting.
I realize this would be difficult, but it would be awesome.

I actually watched Major League this aft just to get a glimpse of us winning again.
Had a thought....remember the scene where Jake is in full uniform at Rene Russo's place? You think Grady or Jensen show up to their goomah's place still in their jerseys? See this is what Castrovince should be telling us.

Anyone else a bit annoyed with how often the Athletics guys call the As "The Green and Gold?" Maybe it's just the Ignatian in me reacting to St. Ed's colors.

Marte's predicted line for today: 3 H, 2 SB, 1 HR; 9 K, 0 ER, 1 SV
That's pretty much what he needs to crack the starting lineup on a regular basis.

If you're referring to MLB.tv I've had the same problem with their video. It's looked much worse than it did at times last year, but I'm not sure how much of that is from varying video quality by the local broadcast. I'm not a subscriber right now, but I was last year and it was a lot better then.

For what it's worth, Sowers had a pretty nice start for Buffalo today. He took the loss thanks, in part, to some bad defense...but he only allowed 3 hits in 6 innings.

Current Cliff Lee count against Buck: 9/11 pitches for fastballs. Sigh.
by Pronk33 on Apr 6, 2008 4:19 PM EDT 0 recs
Cliff Lee worked on non-fastball pitches this spring, right?

The real test is going to be the fifth inning onward. That seems to be where Lee's starts go to die. Perhaps I should try being more optimistic.

Eh. Lazy fly ball. Did get the count back to 2-2 after being down 1-2 (and after watching a pitch sail right over the middle of the plate)
