To salvage some fragment of hope from last night's debacle, consider this: last April 19th, Joe Borowski couldn't hold a four-run lead at Yankee Stadium, giving up a walk-off home run to Alex Rodriguez. (You remember the game, but here's the box score if somehow you've excised that painful experience from your memory). The loss brought the Indians' record to 6-6, which was the low-water mark for the season; the Indians won 10 of their next 12 games and never sniffed .500 again.
Jamey Carroll's back in the lineup, still at second, but this time subbing for Jhonny Peralta. Asdrubal Cabrera will play shortstop, which will improve the infield defense behind Jake Westbrook, tonight's starter.

I clearly recall that game. I listened to Hammy's call on the radio and tore apart my dorm room in disgust. Last night when Hunter hit his GS, I just hung my head and laughed a little bit. It's still early, no need for me to get too worked up yet.
However, gentlemen now would be a good time to bring the lumber out of hiding.
Droobs at SS will be interesting to me. I still feel he is HIGHLY overrated defensively here on LGT (and other Indian fan forums).
I want to be wrong.
Ervin Santana is a solid 0-5 against the Tribe with a 7.59 era. and a .322 BAA.
Might be the medicine we need.
Last night reminded me immediately of that meltdown last year. I went to the game in the Bronx one or two nights before (Sowers got rocked) so I remember thinking, "Well, at least we picked up one" as the game headed into the ninth. Oh well.
Here's hoping for a similar turn around. If they win tonight, I'll engage the usual selective memory for JoeBo performances.

Dellucci just barely made the throw from LF to the cutoff guy. Figgins tagged to 3rd on a fly ball to LF. Has he always had that weak of arm?
dellucci was running into the LCF gap, and Figgins is one of the fastest runners in the game.
i'm game to bitch about everything worth bitching about, but this just isn't one of 'em.
So fast that even when freezes on line drives, he's halfway to the next bag.

I'm not necessarily complaining about him not getting Figgins out. The throw was THAT bad though. It was a lob. It was a Kenny Lofton/ Coco Crisp/ Johnny Damon-esque throw. I knew Dellucci didn't have a great arm, but I didn't think it was that bad.

He was going in the opposite direction. Your choice is either to stop, plant and throw strong or just lob it back. Either way, there's no way to get Figgins.

It was a good luck charm last year. I think it was brick, every time we needed a rally would grab some soup.
It went on for a solid few months, right at the end of the season when we got hot.

I had a nightmare about it last night... all the Gameday headshots riding in a big schoolbus, about to arrive at whatever destination we were headed to, and then the driver turned around and it was a scary version of Borowski, and he drove us all over a cliff, laughing, screaming something about "Jersey tough!"

You know what? Carroll seems to be the first guy who is actually trying to work the pitcher. This is what we did soooo well last year - get pitchers into the 90s pitch count by the 4th or 5th inning and it's a huge key to success (at least in my opinion)..keep it up!

I'm always up for "Naked Gun" references by the broadcast team. I'm glad a tiger didn't maul Casey at 2nd, though I wouldn't mind Hunter's head falling over the outfield fence.
I had a strong dislike for Torii Hunter in Minnesota. However, the combination of the move to Anaheim, plus the departure of Jason Davis... Even after last night I now find him less repugnant.

I'm really psyched for Westbrook this season. More than any other player on this team, I really feel like his overall stats (only one season with an ERA+ better than 110) aren't an accurate reflection of how good he actually is. Just seems like things haven't lined up for him yet to put together a really good season to get him the recognition he deserves. So far, so good this year.

Gameday will occasionally let you know that there was a highlight play, and then play the clip for you. It's pretty badass.

Anaheim is starting some schmendrick named Dustin Moseley tomorrow, a RHP.
Odds of Marte getting a start . . . ? Blake's turn for a day off?
I was trying to see if Marte faced Moseley in the Southern League in 2004 when they were both there, but I have no idea where to find minor league batter-vs.-pitcher stats.

In future I shall always believe, got halfway through the game thread without knowing the result and thought stuff this and flicked to the Indians homepage, now off to watch the video highlights. Yeah Jake and Pronk.

I just got back from the game and it was a fun one. I went with an Angels fan and fortunately stayed through the end. It was great seeing Pronk knock in the eventual game winner. Hopefully he's back. Here are a few pictures that I got while sitting at my seat:
V-Mart and Jake discussing ways to keep JoBo from pitching.
J-Mike catching an easy fly after thoughtfully tossing his locks out of his face.
Raffy discussing with Masa the intricacies of the Rally Monkey (I assume). I also notice JoBo was wandering out of the bullpen by himself. Not sure if he was a little uneasy about not getting to pitch in the 9th or what. I could be off base but it seemed that way.
Nah, he didn't have a problem staying. I think he was enjoying watching my stewing of two possible losses in a row. However, I did notice a ton of people leaving in droves after the 8th ended. That was pretty lame as we had a 1.5 hr. drive back to San Diego and we stayed. Oh well, it worked out for the Indians in the end so it was worth it.
