Game Thread: April 8, 2008

Cleveland @ Los Angeles

Gametime: 10:05 (STO)

To salvage some fragment of hope from last night's debacle, consider this: last April 19th, Joe Borowski couldn't hold a four-run lead at Yankee Stadium, giving up a walk-off home run to Alex Rodriguez. (You remember the game, but here's the box score if somehow you've excised that painful experience from your memory). The loss brought the Indians' record to 6-6, which was the low-water mark for the season; the Indians won 10 of their next 12 games and never sniffed .500 again.

Jamey Carroll's back in the lineup, still at second, but this time subbing for Jhonny Peralta. Asdrubal Cabrera will play shortstop, which will improve the infield defense behind Jake Westbrook, tonight's starter.

I clearly recall that game. I listened to Hammy's call on the radio and tore apart my dorm room in disgust. Last night when Hunter hit his GS, I just hung my head and laughed a little bit. It's still early, no need for me to get too worked up yet.

However, gentlemen now would be a good time to bring the lumber out of hiding.

by mjschaefer on Apr 8, 2008 9:33 PM EDT   0 recs

Delucci is 6 for 12 against Santana. Can he finally get a hit tonight?

by palcal on Apr 8, 2008 9:37 PM EDT   0 recs

Droobs at SS will be interesting to me. I still feel he is HIGHLY overrated defensively here on LGT (and other Indian fan forums).

I want to be wrong.

by Toxicadam on Apr 8, 2008 9:38 PM EDT   0 recs

On this forum and every other forum that speaks of defense? Seriously, I have never heard he is overrated defensively.

by JesseAK on Apr 8, 2008 9:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think his range might be a tad overrated...but his hands are what makes him a good defender.

by TribeJay on Apr 8, 2008 10:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ervin Santana is a solid 0-5 against the Tribe with a 7.59 era. and a .322 BAA.

Might be the medicine we need.

Fastballs. Finally.

Last night reminded me immediately of that meltdown last year. I went to the game in the Bronx one or two nights before (Sowers got rocked) so I remember thinking, "Well, at least we picked up one" as the game headed into the ninth. Oh well.

Here's hoping for a similar turn around. If they win tonight, I'll engage the usual selective memory for JoeBo performances.

by baergagaga on Apr 8, 2008 9:48 PM EDT   0 recs

The only thing worse than a game like last night are the awful 1-0 losses, like we had last year against the Reds. Tonight's gonna be better by default. Excited for Cabrera at SS.

Reuters is claiming that Raffy B. officially broke one off in Borowski's.....well, you know. Day-to-day with broken ankles and rears.

Gamecast: Hafner thrown out at home, RF Vlad to 1B Casey Kotchman to C Jeff Mathis..

What actually happened?

I'm not superstitious, I'm just a little stitious.

by jakesinger777 on Apr 8, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

Pretty much that.

by Captain Pabst on Apr 8, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Victor singled just inside the bag at first, into the bullpen. Hafner ran thru the stop sign at third and was thrown out at home by 30 feet.

by Fiddlesticks on Apr 8, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Its never good when the catcher gets the ball before the runner is even in view of the camera.

by Fundamentals on Apr 8, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That was a bad time machine

One day I'll get over to watch the Tribe play

by new zealand tribe fan on Apr 8, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

Bizarro gamecast summary of that sequence:

Hafner singled to center.

Martinez singled to right, Hafner out at home.

God truly does hate cleveland sports.

by Gradysmanldy on Apr 8, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

He tried to score from 1st on a single?

by maledicta on Apr 8, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Clearly, Skinner made this face:

by Gradysmanldy on Apr 8, 2008 10:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Most non-hobbled runners get a 2B out of that hit

by Captain Pabst on Apr 8, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It was well hit right on the 1st baseline. Vlad got over there slow, but still inexplicable to go from 1st to home

by Roger Dorn on Apr 8, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

What, you didn't expect that? It's such a logical outcome.

by Julie on Apr 8, 2008 10:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Let;s not lose sight of the fact that Victor is awesome

by Roger Dorn on Apr 8, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

On replay, according to Underwood, Skinner gave a "subtle go sign" to Hafner. Whatever that means.

*SOB*

by Julie on Apr 8, 2008 10:13 PM EDT   0 recs

Slow bouncer down the first base line, Guerrero wasn't very deep, threw to the first baseman, relay had Hafner by 15 feet.

Stop being negative, Jay.

Dellucci just barely made the throw from LF to the cutoff guy. Figgins tagged to 3rd on a fly ball to LF. Has he always had that weak of arm?

by Fundamentals on Apr 8, 2008 10:20 PM EDT   0 recs

dellucci was running into the LCF gap, and Figgins is one of the fastest runners in the game.

i'm game to bitch about everything worth bitching about, but this just isn't one of 'em.

by xrickx on Apr 8, 2008 10:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Dude, did you see that throw. It was a lob

by Roger Dorn on Apr 8, 2008 10:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So fast that even when freezes on line drives, he's halfway to the next bag.

by FranklinScott on Apr 8, 2008 10:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not necessarily complaining about him not getting Figgins out. The throw was THAT bad though. It was a lob. It was a Kenny Lofton/ Coco Crisp/ Johnny Damon-esque throw. I knew Dellucci didn't have a great arm, but I didn't think it was that bad.

by Fundamentals on Apr 8, 2008 10:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He was going in the opposite direction. Your choice is either to stop, plant and throw strong or just lob it back. Either way, there's no way to get Figgins.

by FranklinScott on Apr 8, 2008 10:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

There's your silent Figgins.

by Julie on Apr 8, 2008 10:20 PM EDT   0 recs
