My STO is frozen on Underpants and Manning from their pregame show from yesterday, and has been for more than an hour. Is anyone else having this problem?
We're benching Frank the Tank so that we can play our platoon guy, who is batting .056 on the season, where he's facing a pitcher that he would be expected to perform poorly against because of his platoon splits.
Did Frank kick Wedge's dog? Leave a whoopee cusion on his chair?

I'm in class, so I'll ask this: Is vic not playing because of the infamous day game after night game?
Can't say I understand this lineup AT ALL. I know why Vic's not in there, but does that mean we need to play our 4 worst hitters all at the same time? Let's get Marte or Gutz in there, at least there's a potential for upside.

Battlekow, if Yost had a young guy who was out of options and needed to get some work, would he bury him on the bench behind a career platoon guy... ON THE OTHER SIDE OF HIS SPLIT?
I wouldn't put it past him, but more likely, the out-of-options guy would get more playing time than he deserved because Yost gets confused easily.

It's probably better J-Mike takes an 0-fer today so Wedge doesn't think he was correct in utilizing this arrangements. Offensively, it may not make a difference, and J-Mike is no slouch, but why not let your best outfield defense (which includes Gutierrez in right) play on the day when your flyball pitcher is on the mound?
And Blake could have used the day off. Today, tomorrow, and about 4 days per week, every week, IMO.
Ugh. Not that I'm not repeating, but Dellucci-Michaels-Blake in order is about as pathetic as it comes.

You know, my Spanish teacher freshman year of high school explained his grading scale like this: "A 'C' means you made me think you don't know what you're doing. A 'D' or an 'F' means you demonstrated that you don't know what you're doing."
I wonder if this isn't Wedge's approach to playing Marte, analogous to Gutierrez last year. The first step isn't that the new guy's an 'A' or a 'B,' but that the old guy's a 'D' or an 'F' -- in other words, the established starter has to manifest , not merely suggest, incompetence before the rookie even gets a look. In the absence of injury, and as long as Blake and Michucci put up 'C' batting lines, Marte can pick splinters out of his heine.

North Shore. Whitefish Bay. I ran into a couple Marquette guys in Puerto Rico over spring break, but all they wanted to talk about was politics; too bad Crean didn't get hired away earlier. Basketball is way more fun to talk about over beer.

What is the over/under on Byrd's stay in the rotation?
Maybe he will get a 5-month suspension on May 1.
Because spring training doesn't matter. He's the most talented, major-league ready, non-Adam Miller pitcher in the system. Anyway, whether he's "so-so" is irrelevant -- the question is whether he's better than Paul Byrd. I don't need a Magic 8-Ball to answer that one.

So essentially, we have to sit through the winnowing process, like we did last year with Hernandez and Cabrera? Shouldn't we all just ignore them until June 15? I mean, call me when Borowski, Byrd, Michaels and Dellucci are all DFA'd.

I don't know anything about Aaron Laffey. His K-rates were mediocre in the minors and really bad in his ML trial last year. Does he have projectable stuff?

yes, that season that is only 9 games old. Why? Well because the Indians did absolutely nothing to improve their team from last year. Maintain the team from the year before is simply not enough any more. Forgive me for not being more optimistic, but playing in a League that has Bos, NYY, Det (yes despite their record), LAA, and Sea, it makes it that much harder

Delucci, Michaels, Borowski, Bryd, Sabathia need to be off the team by seasons end.
Marte should be given a real chance to compete for 3rd.
Ben Francisco should be given the chance to be the everyday LF.
you're right (in my opinion) that he's out after the season...but isn't he critical for a legit run toward a title? you think we can trade him and upgrade our chances of winning this year? i'd be skeptical of that.

Ahh ok I get it. I'm not a real fan bc I dont have your point of view. Excuse me, my mistake. ONe of the reasons I liked this blog so much was bc of the open mindness of its bloggers. Ive read comments left by unsupportive bloggers. I am not one of them. I simply have no illusions about their chances this year. I believe that last year, almost everything went right and that if one thing went wrong, it wasnt going to work out. I still feel the same about it this year. If everything goes right, I expect a good season, however, i dont expect everything to work out right again.
Forget Jay. Does he really have to run through the whole thing everytime some idiot starts bitching and moaning? Yeah, we'll probably be 4-5 after this game.
But if Gladiator or whoever today's moaner is really think this team is a noncontender, he needn't look here for explanation. Open any baseball website, traditional or nontraditional, or any print publication, or turn on the radio, or run the numbers yourself. There's a mountain of evidence that shows that this is a potential champion team, and one flimsly line that amounts to "They didn't sign enough players that I've heard of" doesn't counter that. So move along.
Who really got better? The Tigers? I don't think so even with out the 0-7 start, their pitching is razor thin as it is.
Boston? they didn't sign naybody significant. Yankees? Same there. What moves were made that makes you think any of these teams surpassed us?
Bedard makes Seattle better, but they so overplayed their Pyth record that to expect the same number of wins would be optimistic.
Remember that time Seattle traded Rafael Soriano for the putrefying corpse of Horacio Ramirez? That was funny.
PS: You guys need to acquire Soriano so you can have all the good Rafael relievers.
