interesting lineup, to say the least….

G. Sizemore cf
C. Blake 3b
D. Dellucci lf
V. Martinez c
J. Peralta ss
T. Hafner dh
R. Garko 1b
F. Gutierrez rf
A. Cabrera 2b

by Ryan on May 1, 2008 6:27 PM EDT   0 recs

a lineup that plays (in theory) almost as well backwards as it does forwards….

by APV on May 1, 2008 6:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wedge expresses tremendous confidence in Hafner but it is not right to leave him in the 3 hole while he is working this out and it will take a while

by palcal on May 1, 2008 6:29 PM EDT   0 recs

I just wonder…At what point does Wedge say, “OK, we’ve got a problem and it’s not going away.” And then, what does he do? Move him to 9, not play him/platoon him? Try to trade him?

It's the Arizona talking, really.

by RD74 on May 1, 2008 6:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not that Wedge trades anyone…you know what I mean.

I luv this line up! Here hang onna this post too. They are absolutely gonna tear it up tonight – six runs mimimum.

Careful, next he’ll say you owe him a beer for being wrong.

by Jay on May 2, 2008 12:13 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

way to reward Gutz for being hot … move him from 6 to 8.

The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.

by westbrook on May 1, 2008 6:34 PM EDT   0 recs

You call it 8th .. I call it the bottom of the lineup clean-up spot!

::inhales more glue::

by Toxicadam on May 1, 2008 6:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

soooo, Sizemore is batting clean up for the 7 spot?

by elsandito on May 1, 2008 6:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

we’ve got to have someone down there that can do the job.

It's the Arizona talking, really.

by RD74 on May 1, 2008 6:36 PM EDT   0 recs

right now, I’d prefer:
Sizemore
Asdrubal
Dellucci
VMart
Hafner
Gutz
Peralta
Garko
Blake

what I’d actually like to see is Hafner get diagnosed with some “back stiffness” or something like that, and spend a little time getting his head on straight before walloping AAA pitching in a rehab assignment…then come back to Cleveland.

by APV on May 1, 2008 6:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Kind of like the Borowski syndrome.

I like the Sizemore-Dellucci-VMart lineup, and I have no idea what Casey Blake has done to get in the middle of that. I udnerstand dropping Hafner, but Blake is the one who benefits with more at-bats?

by JesseAK on May 1, 2008 6:43 PM EDT   0 recs

it’s fucking stupid. i’m going to be way too angry about this tonight

I think he was some kind of mutant/genetically-altered assistant in some mad scientist’s lab that chased Bugs around (or tried to capture him so the scientist could take his brain). I’m not sure he ever had a backstory per se, but he always cracked me the hell up.

I also love the sneakers. Awesome touch.

The monster (unnamed here) serves as the scientist’s henchman, and showed a sudden burst of joyousness with the prospect of being rewarded with a delectable “spider goulash” for capturing the bunny, which proved to be a very difficult, if not impossible task.

Haaahaha. God, I loved me some Chuck Jones.

I like changes in lineup .. but this one seems a bit dramatic. I was just hoping for a Victor-Garko-Hafner 3,4,5.

by Toxicadam on May 1, 2008 6:53 PM EDT   0 recs

No, no, no – to much pressue on Hafner. Hide him as best you can without humiliating him. Sixth is perfect.

We score a ton of runs and then change the lineup?

Huh.

by gahnki on May 1, 2008 6:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Wedge recoiled at the sight of us scoring too many

Wedge had said so during ST if I recall correctly.

by Voltaire on May 1, 2008 7:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I know it’s easy to stay after that AB but…

What exactly is Blake doing in the 2?

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:17 PM EDT   0 recs

Rakin’ like Ty Cobb, dude.

"the most vehement Yankee-hating guy I know" - Jay

by mauichuck on May 1, 2008 7:18 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I thought that’s a good spot for the contact guys or something. At his present rate he’ll wind up w/ 146 K’s in the same number of ABs as last season (558). That’s a number that would lead you to believe he’s a power hitter. He’s a very strange hitter, to say the least.

by jhon on May 1, 2008 7:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m sounding a lot like indiansfan right now. damn.

Could be my boyz, Washington Group International – we just got bought out by URS which has ties to the Carlisle Group – ya know all the ex-Regan Dept. Secretaries. I’ll ask when I get back to Princeton.

Has anyone noticed the Mariner catcher throws like a girl?

by elsandito on May 1, 2008 7:19 PM EDT   0 recs

The Mariners are interesting to me all the suddent. Balentein and Clement? Plus King Felix? Hmm.

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Seems like they’re going for broke. It’ll either work or it won’t. Could be a lineup that gets better as the season goes by. If everything else holds together they’re VERY interesting.

by jhon on May 1, 2008 7:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That’s my John Kruk impression.

by jhon on May 1, 2008 7:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

idiots.

by elsandito on May 1, 2008 7:23 PM EDT   0 recs

Hello, Good Paul Byrd.

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Why am I so amazed that Sexson has 299 HRs.

by cclemens31 on May 1, 2008 7:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Because Russ Branyan only has 121.

Too bad Russ couldn’t play for the Mariners.

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Branyan is def. a poor man’s Sexson.

by cclemens31 on May 1, 2008 7:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m not so sure. I think Sexson’s had more luck but Branyan was, and is, just undervalued by the market.

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Looks like both hit HR’s in about 6.4% of their AB’s. While Sexson struck out 26.4%, Branyan struck out 40.4%.

Talk about closing your eyes and swinging.

by cclemens31 on May 1, 2008 7:44 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah my stance is pretty indefensible. Is BABIP up on B-Ref?

by afh4 on May 1, 2008 7:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Naw, but I can tell you Sexson make $56 million to Branyan’s paltry $2.65 though.

by cclemens31 on May 1, 2008 7:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs
