Great question from the previous thread: does Iron stay in to face Ichiro san?

by macasson on May 1, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

I would, but Wedge probably won’t.

by gte619n on May 1, 2008 9:08 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Perez is Steel, not Iron.

And the answer is no.

by Jay on May 1, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Dang. On both counts.

by macasson on May 1, 2008 9:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Well, he does get a unique line in the box score … 0.1 IP, 0 batters faced.

by Jay on May 1, 2008 9:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

What’s the logic for having Iron start the inning – and shit, as i type this Ichiro with a single – is it that if Steel does NOT retire the lead-off batter, Iron has to come in with men on base? Is Wedge married to the closer-starts-an-inning philosophy even though Iron routinely went 4 or more outs last year?

by macasson on May 1, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I imagine he’s married to the Iron-starts-the-9th philosophy but might put him in there early, to get more than four outs.

by Jay on May 1, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

yeah, i did a poor job of separating the 4-out save from the (more rare) 2-out save, which may have been the move here. hindsight rocks.

yes. Hang On Sloopy is the third greatest song ever made, right behind “The Buckeye Battle Cry” and the theme to the Drew Carey show.

Have we had the mandatory reminiscing session about the 1995 ALCS when Kenny Lofton scored from second on a passed ball against the Ms?

Great great moment. Vs the Big Unit. And, then, didn’t Manny go yard?!!?

We could use an RBI here, Casey.

Hint hint.

My favorite Indians memory.

by mjschaefer on May 1, 2008 9:12 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Beating the Yankees by 28 runs was awesome.

by gte619n on May 1, 2008 9:12 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Wasn’t it 22-0?

by mjschaefer on May 1, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

you’re probably right. By the time I’m 65, it will be 250 runs.

by gte619n on May 1, 2008 9:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

And it will have been in the 97 ALDS.

by mjschaefer on May 1, 2008 9:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

It’s all good. The Mariner comeback – I was on Johnston Island at the time – saw us down by 17-18 and kinda gave up and went to the gym. I’m workin’ out and onnna the guys says, “hey Chuck, you’re boyz look like they might come back” and I figure he’s bustin’ my balls, right? But I look at the TV in the Stair Master Room and “Holy Tris Speaker!” They’re commin’ back right? So I call my bro in DC – the one with the Maryland plates that say “GOTRIBE” and we’re both freakin’ out – good times!

by supermarioelia on May 1, 2008 11:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

If memory serves … down 12 runs, two outs in the 7th, nobody on.

by Jay on May 2, 2008 12:26 AM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I was more trying to point out how exaggerated Chuck’s story was.

by supermarioelia on May 2, 2008 11:08 AM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

See I know I shoudda looked this up first, but I was doin’ it on the fly.

And hey Mario – how come you ain’t hittin’ the books? You keep this goofin’ off crap up and you’re gonna be practicin’ accupucture on an oil rig in the Bering Sea. Now get ta work Stunod!

Knocking them out of the ‘97 and ‘07 playoffs were each more satisfying though, no?

by macasson on May 1, 2008 9:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Absolutely. No. Doubt about this.

by Jay on May 1, 2008 9:17 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

especially ‘97. down 2-1 in the series, then orel and wright shut ‘em down. just amazing. chuck – you’ll love this – i was proctoring an exam at the local college before game 4 and someone left a yankees hat behind. i took it home, put it on the driveway, doused it with lighter fluid and burned it beyond all recognition. turned the whole series around, i tell ya.

by macasson on May 1, 2008 9:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Against it. Still rooting against Tigers primarily. If conflicted, at least root for a split.

I was golfing at my local Country Club the other day. I went inside the proshop and was looking at a titlelist hat that had the Indians Chief Wahoo on the side. The guy running the pro shop procedes to tell me that he is a bit of an Indians fan because he played baseball with Blake’s brother. He said Casey is a great guy.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him that no one likes Casey…..

They were playing Barcelona.

I’ve been out and about but it’s nice to come back and see that Paul Byrd had another great outing. Almost eight innings? Absurd!

Need more bats, though. What a silly sport this is when Hafner gets a day off to shake the slump, Indians have a seemingly so-so lineup and go off for eight runs, then the next day Hafner is back, everyone else for the most part is sleeping and Hafner will probably be responsible for this win. Good stuff.

by ahowie on May 1, 2008 9:17 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

He could have finished the 8th, too, Wedge just played the odds, putting in Steel to face the lefty Ichiro.

by ahowie on May 1, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Victor caught a guy stealing at 2B, hence Ichiro leads off the 9th.
