This Blue Jays lineup is amazing. Outside of Hill and Rios, its pretty much the lineup for the fictional 2008 expansion Portland Pioneers.

by dgcambridge on May 12, 2008 3:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’ll take it. Seriously, bring Portland baseball. Damned Florida teams will probably make the playoffs just to spite us.

by pdxtribefan on May 12, 2008 4:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So today’s doubleheader is kind of big, yeah? Chance to go 2 games above .500 and possibly into first place, or fall 2 games below .500 and fall 2.5 games out of first…

by APV on May 12, 2008 3:31 PM EDT   0 recs

So I guess we see Peralta, Gutierrez and Marte in game 2? Or - gasp - Jason Tyner?

by peter m on May 12, 2008 3:33 PM EDT   0 recs

if we see Tyner, he better be wielding a pie…

by APV on May 12, 2008 3:34 PM EDT to parent up   1 recs

I propose that “Gasp – Jason Tyner” should be used every time we refer to him on this site for the next week or so while he is with the team.

by Gradysmanldy on May 12, 2008 4:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Game 1 is big…the lineup for game two will most likely be…

CF – Grady Sizemore
LF – David Dellucci/Ben Francisco/Jason Tyner
RF – Franklin Guitierrez
3B – Andy Marte
SS – Jhonny Peralta
2B – Jamey Carroll/Asdrubal Cabrera
1B – Ryan Garko/Casey Blake/Victor Martinez
C – Kelly Shoppach
DH – Travis Hafner/extra 1B

Basically, 4 positions up for grabs…

Thoughts?

by Tribe Alive on May 12, 2008 3:35 PM EDT   0 recs

Marcum’s a righty, so it’s got to be Dellucci. And we’ll see Marte, and Peralta/Cabrera. And then I would think Travis sits for Victor.

by dgcambridge on May 12, 2008 3:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed…

Who plays 1B then…Garko or Blake???

by Tribe Alive on May 12, 2008 3:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If only we could decide via text message voting.

These are 1-866 numbers, not 1-800 numbers.

I’m so ashamed.

Yeah, I was avoiding that one. Does Garko get the pink bats today? I say Garko.

I’m starting to get nervous about Cabrera at short…..no matter how much Peralta struggles he’s one of our best hitters and a really good power threat. I hate to see him lose playing time.

by NickFantana on May 12, 2008 3:42 PM EDT   0 recs

I don’t think they’re going to replace Peralta at short any time soon. He’s been hitting poorly of late (although he had a good series in NY) so they’re resting him a bit. Plus, it’s a doubleheader, and Carmona is an extreme ground ball pitcher, so it makes sense to play Cabrera at short in this game rather than the second one.

by peter m on May 12, 2008 3:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Should have clarified irrationally nervous…..I just like home runs too damn much.

We worry about not having enough power from our corner OF spots…..but the Blue Jays have our old utility infielder playing LF this afternoon. Or is there another Joe Inglett?

What am I missing? Where's Lind? Is he on "Hollywood Squares Leave"?

by Nat on May 12, 2008 3:56 PM EDT   0 recs

That’s weird I didn’t try to make that any different than the first couple lines…..

by Nat on May 12, 2008 3:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It’s happened to me too. No idea.

by dgcambridge on May 12, 2008 3:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They sent him down to AAA! Apparently they were unimpressed by the 19 at-bats they’ve given him this year.

For all the complaining about Marte, just think, the organization could be run worse.

I’ve been here before, so I wasn’t too thrilled to do tons of sight-seeing. But I went through the English Gardens on Saturday and spent a fair amount of time in the biergarten there (2nd largest in the city). Some museums, etc…

I think this is the first game I’ve listened to on the radio since spring training, since I’m too lazy to go downstairs in front of the TV & should probably do some work anyway. Looking forward to hearing Hamilton go on a rant against something, though.

Burnett’s really 31? Man…doesn’t seem like he’s been around that long…

by APV on May 12, 2008 4:12 PM EDT   0 recs

If you bunch his healthy seasons together, he’s really been around for like 3 years.

Jules update: Burnett mows down grady with some very fine looking moving fastballs and sliders. 3rd pitch was looking on a ball that started at him and moved over the inside half.

Sportsline’s gamecenter doesn’t have too horrible a delay. It’s a bit inconsistent, but tolerable.

by Julie on May 12, 2008 4:18 PM EDT   0 recs

How in the world did Burnett have a 10 pitch inning with a hit and two strikeouts?

by Julie on May 12, 2008 4:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Delucci and Vic swung at the first pitch.

Scott Rolen looks like my grandpa in his Gamecenter photo. Unfortunately for him, my grandpa’s dead.

by Julie on May 12, 2008 4:20 PM EDT   0 recs

To open both innings, Fausto has thrown picture perfect strikes, both called balls. I’m not talking pitches on the corner. I’m talking down the middle of the plate.

by xrickx on May 12, 2008 4:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Gameday agrees.

by dgcambridge on May 12, 2008 4:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Other than saying “the umpire is human,” there’s no excuse. And even then, 99.9% of the humans would have called it a strike.
