I propose that “Gasp – Jason Tyner” should be used every time we refer to him on this site for the next week or so while he is with the team.

Game 1 is big…the lineup for game two will most likely be…
CF – Grady Sizemore
LF – David Dellucci/Ben Francisco/Jason Tyner
RF – Franklin Guitierrez
3B – Andy Marte
SS – Jhonny Peralta
2B – Jamey Carroll/Asdrubal Cabrera
1B – Ryan Garko/Casey Blake/Victor Martinez
C – Kelly Shoppach
DH – Travis Hafner/extra 1B
Basically, 4 positions up for grabs…
Thoughts?
Marcum’s a righty, so it’s got to be Dellucci. And we’ll see Marte, and Peralta/Cabrera. And then I would think Travis sits for Victor.
hire marte

I’m starting to get nervous about Cabrera at short…..no matter how much Peralta struggles he’s one of our best hitters and a really good power threat. I hate to see him lose playing time.
I don’t think they’re going to replace Peralta at short any time soon. He’s been hitting poorly of late (although he had a good series in NY) so they’re resting him a bit. Plus, it’s a doubleheader, and Carmona is an extreme ground ball pitcher, so it makes sense to play Cabrera at short in this game rather than the second one.
wait this game starts in like 10 minutes?

We worry about not having enough power from our corner OF spots…..but the Blue Jays have our old utility infielder playing LF this afternoon. Or is there another Joe Inglett?
What am I missing? Where's Lind? Is he on "Hollywood Squares Leave"?
They sent him down to AAA! Apparently they were unimpressed by the 19 at-bats they’ve given him this year.
For all the complaining about Marte, just think, the organization could be run worse.

To open both innings, Fausto has thrown picture perfect strikes, both called balls. I’m not talking pitches on the corner. I’m talking down the middle of the plate.
DP!

yeah…one of the year’s he was together with Phillips in Buffalo he split time between SS and 3B. The problem is he goes from an above-average offensive SS to a marginal/average offensive 3B without increasing his defensive value at all in the move.
The interesting thing (I think) is that he has never played an inning at 2b—at any level. I’d like to know why.

Peralta’s best defensive skill is his arm strength (his one defensive skill unquestionably above average). That skill gets wasted on the right side of the infield.
exactly what I wanted to say.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
But I’m not buying it. Arm strength (with more of a short-arm motion, I’ll grant you) is what a 2b needs to turn the double play. That and quick feet carried Mazeroski to the H of F.
by ken from alexandria on May 12, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Stupidly, the Indians haven’t given him enough practice to be any good.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
None of this makes sense. Who’d play 2B? If someone suggested Jhonny at 2B, that might fly (I think Jay has been pushing that, mildly). But, I think our infield defense is actually adequate, at worst, at the moment. It’s the hitting that’s awful (from all of the infielders, in varying degrees).
Manny Ramirez = the best left fielder to ever play for Boston. Just ask him.

Probably has to be Laffey, unless the Indians jettison Tyner. But why keep Laffey and Sowers up with the team? And if Westbrook is almost ready by that point, no reason not to jettison Laffey.

I’m no Joe Inglett apologist – okay, maybe I am – but he was pretty damn good as an Indians minor leaguer. He was never a real prospect, but the guy was an OBP machine who could play passably everywhere but pitcher and catcher.
Of course, there’s a difference between being a good minor league utilityman and a player that can help an MLB team. But as a minor leaguer, Inglett was rock solid.
Perhaps. But as far as the big-league club is concerned, only McDonald of that quartet approached mediocrity, and even that may be a bit generous. (Did Formerindiansfarmhandmarco Scutaro ever even get to Cleveland?)

I was stuck at work that day. One of my co-workers brought in a little TV that could only be watched when the back door was opened thanks to all the metal and crap in the roof. It was a constant trade-off between all of us to work up front for a five minute shift, then come back and watch for a few. Good times.

I’m posing this question, for those who have been to Wrigley Field -
I was at the game yesterday and argued with my friend that you could easily hit the manual scoreboard with a throw from center field.
Google Earth has the distance from CF to scoreboard at 150 feet. Scoreboard is probably 50 feet off the ground.
As a reference point, the distance between home plate and 2nd base is 127 feet.
So do you think it’s easy (my opinion) or impossible (my friends opinion) to hit the scoreboard?
Chuck Knoblauch could do it while aiming for first base.

I think of gamethreads as “life threads.” Whatever’s going on, thats what I’m going to talk about. This band just came on my player.
DeVotchKa is a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi (and many more styles) music with American punk and folk roots. They take their name from Anthony Burgess’ Nadsat word for “young girl,” which is itself derived from the Russian word (девочка) of the same meaning. Based in Denver, Colorado, the quartet is made up of Nick Urata, who sings and plays theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano, and trumpet; Tom Hagerman, who plays violin, accordion, and piano; Jeanie Schroder, who sings and plays sousaphone and double bass; and Shawn King, who plays percussion and trumpet.Originally a backing band for burlesque shows, in their early years DeVotchKa also toured with fetish model Dita von Teese. Numerous nationwide tours in support of self released records earned the band an underground following. Their song “How It Ends” was featured on the trailer for the film Everything Is Illuminated, introducing the band to a widening audience. Their performance at the 2006 Bonnaroo music festival was considered a breakout event. In between tours, the band was picked by first time film directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris to score Little Miss Sunshine, a 2006 film that would go on to garner four Academy Award nominations. DeVotchKa, along with composer Mychael Danna, composed and performed the majority of the music for the film’s soundtrack and were nominated for a 2006 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack.
Arcade Fire singer Win Butler suggested to DeVotchka that they cover the Siouxsie and the Banshees song “The Last Beat of My Heart”.
Nice guess, at least.

Me too, and not because I like some of that stuff. It’s got too much of that self-congratulatory “we’re laughing at ourselves, aren’t we cute” vibe to it.

I don’t like the implication on a lot of levels. I don’t like the tone, as you said but I also don’t like the perspective. Who is it supposed to speak for? I think most people who are uninitiated to the ways of internet hijinks would think a minority group and, well, I think that’s sort of weird.
I’m also so tired of irony it pains me.
No. I am made uncomfortable by the a blog by a bunch of white hipsters that could be easily interpreted as written by or representing the views of someone else. Just because white people in cool glasses think they’re hilarious and liberal doesn’t necessarily give them the right to take a POV they don’t have a claim to.
Then again, I’m probably the only one worried about this.

Whatchoo talkin’ about, (Carl) Willis?
BTW, Diff’rent Strokes reruns every afternoon at 3 on BET. “Spectacular” doesn’t even begin to describe spending an hour watching Arnold’s hijinx, then flipping over to a Tribe game.
Gark!
You must be the only person on earth with less to do than I.

Remember when we were all worried about Garko making the transition from catcher to first? I mean, he’s not the best fielder ever out there, but he’s not Jason Giambi.

Right now, I'll take .500 and run. I'm a cheap happy.
Hey, Brick, if you want me to set you up for a joke just email me or something. Don’t do it yourself.

Oh man. I’d say it’s funny to imagine guys having like 6 accounts on here setting up jokes for themselves, but I’ve been on other forums where it’s eventually revealed that there was one dude talking to himself a bunch & shit just gets weird.

OT: sorry about Irving. I tried to comment on your blog (more eloquently than this) but it looks like it didn’t take.

It’s Hegan, he doesn’t get as irrationally excited as Hamilton.

Everyone—2 things:
1) I’m no pitching coach. But I think Fausto might strike some more batters out if he threw fewer than 94% fastballs.
2) No John Adams—weird.
wait what? no john adams?

He’s a network analyst for someone, I believe. A couple of months ago I posted an interview with him from a tech magazine as a FanPost or FanShot or whichever one it is that nobody reads.

I’m not sure we’ll see Fausto put it together year to year in terms of control, and I’m not sure it will matter. When he does put it together he’ll have years like last year and when he doesn’t he’ll probably live in the high 3’s (where he’ll end up this year if he doesn’t get it worked out).
I think it’s just a product of his stuff. It’s too insane to have good to great control every year.
