why is it that i fear the guy pitching the 9th inning for the indians, regardless of name, over the last 5 years. wickman, betancourt, riske, mastny, borowski.
Raffy’s been damn unlucky since his arrival in the closer’s spot.

TRIPLE FUCK
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
oh fuck

Fuck fuck fuck fuck. What is wrong with Betancourt?
Well, we still have last ups, bitches.
Burn on, big river, burn on...
I’ll just blame Raffy’s suckiness on the fact that it’s the Jays. We all remember last year when he lost the game for us when Byrd pitched that gem.

He doesn’t even get a complete game (or a shutout). It’s just not fair, I tell ya.

Oh well .. you can’t win them all. We have won two series in a row, that’s all that matters. Let’s keep on chugging.
Can we fire Derek Shelton?

Ok, so Betancourt shouldn’t be giving up bunches of runs to the Jays. But when you head for extras knotted at 0-0, you’re asking for trouble.
I just hate being behind the Twins. I mean, it’s not just the Twins, it’s these Twins.

I’m glad to see Downs in there isntead of Ryan. We still have a chance, maybe.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
downs in for ryan … ?

imagine how good this pitching staff would be if Janssen hadn’t gone down for the year.

Thank goodness we don’t have Casey Blake to pinchhit here. And yes, I would use him right here.

Neither is Blake.

LOL whatever. Didn’t Blake strike out in 4 pitches in his glorious pinch hit?

In general, though, he sees a ton of pitches.

ok. so when the person in tyner’s slot has a chance to win the game, tyner, with 1 homerun, bats. when getting on base is the only objective, he doesn’t.
not that i want him up here. he doesn’t get on base. i’m still just harpin on him batting last time.
At least we’re wearing him down for the next inning…oh

DEAR ERIC FUCKING WEDGE,
THE TORONTO BLUEJAYS HAVE THREE VERY TALENTED LEFT-HANDED RELIEVERS. CHANCES ARE THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE USED LATE IN THE GAME. AND YOU KNEW THAT ONCE YOU USED BLAKE, THAT FRANCISCO WAS YOUR NEXT BEST RIGHT-HANDED OPTION OFF THE BENCH. YET YOU USED BLAKE AGAINST MARCUM. BECAUSE YOU HATE ANDY MARTE. PLEASE REALIZE THAT YOUR HATRED HAS GONE TOO FAR.
Sincerely,
Me.

LETS MAKE UP FOR THIS by SWEEPING THE A’S
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
The A’s kinda scare me, actually. Are they for fuckin’ real?

Right now, I'll take .500 and run. I'm a cheap happy.
moral of the story: i
1)indians have starting pitching.
2) wedge still has no clue who is on his team, or, rather, WHY they are on his team.
3) hafner…fuck. see also: garko, peralta, blake, betancourt.
4) andy marte cannot succeed at the major league level because he’s not going to be given the chance to do so.
agree with 1
agree with 2
agree with 3
agree with 4

They won 3 out of 4 against a team with good pitching. So, no need to panic. But …. The hitting is beginning to look like it is not going to get better soon or without some changes. I smell a trade, actually. I can’t see any reason why Jason Tyner is on the 25-man roster except to hold a place for someone else. It may not happen tomorrow, but I can’t believe the FO will waste this kind of starting pitching indefinitely. Right now, they’re at .500 and still in contention. If they keep winning series, Shapiro will have the luxury of waiting. Get your blood pressure medicine out—we’re in for some close games, I fear.
Tonight’s second game batting: embarassing. Just embarassing.

The Blue Jays have a fantastic pitching staff. You can’t really get this upset over a loss. That’s baseball.
We have a big series coming up and I need you guys to pull it together for tomorrow’s game thread. Let’s get a good night’s sleep and rest your fingers.
The hitting performance is worth getting upset about.
The Jays didn’t do that much worse against Lee than Lee’s typical start this season.
Marcum came in with a 2.50 ERA, not 0.00. He’s been great, but not like Lee. And we should be better than that anyway.
Amen brother. I mean, if a pitcher goes a complete game, and is not Cliff lee, we should expect at least a run, no?

He’s a guy that has only been giving up only 4 hits a game, has a high K/BB rate and has 6/7 (now 7/8) Quality starts.
I would say he is probably one of the best starters we have faced all year (statistically).
It’s night like last Sunday when we looked dreadful against Meche (a guy we had lit up in the past) with his 6.00 ERA.
True, but he’s not impervious, and no other team has done this badly against him.
His earned runs by game: 3, 1, 2, 4, 2, 0, 2. Average: 2. Median: 2.
Walks allowed by game: 1, 1, 3, 4, 3, 3, 1. Average: 2.3. Median: 3.
Extra-base hits by game: 2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 0, 1. Average: 1.9. Median: 2.
In his other scoreless start, the White Sox at least forced him out of the game at 100 pitches before the end of the 7th. They got five baserunners, not two, by drawing three walks, not zero.
I will gladly allow, by the way, that they were pathetic against Carmona and Lee in the same way, but that doesn’t justify our horrendous performance. It isn’t too much to ask our offense to produce at a league-average level, in which case we’d be a .600 team easily.
when can atom miller join our pen?

I just can’t shake that our starters went 18 innings today, allowed no runs, and we lost a game.
by supermarioelia on May 12, 2008 10:24 PM EDT reply actions
It is frustrating, but consider that the Jays starters gave up 3 runs in a similar number of innings and also lost a game. You’re going to lose some close games. The infuriating part here is not this game—it’s a month and a half of games where the Indians basically don’t hit.
Yes, but we actually had scored 3+ runs in our last six games — three 3’s, a 5, a 6 and a 12. Looked like we might be coming out of it.
Well, it’s possible we still are. We’ve had quite an outburst against a pretty decent pitching staff and, while it is frustrating, it’s not unheard of that we could get shut out by a pitcher like Marcum and still be on the right track.
Burn on, big river, burn on...

I kinda hoped so too. But, it doesn’t look like it. Over the past 7 games (Yankees/Jays), the Indians as a team are at .319/.373/.691. For the year, it’s .318/.357/.675. Not much change. The double header obviously pulled the week’s totals down, but the team’s averages for these series are not better.
Screw Friday and Saturday’s performances, Fire Shelton.

0 for 8 with RISP, and terrible at bats. Shoppach’s comes to mind.
Although I think Tyner’s presence doomed the lineup to futility.
I think the banner should say “TRIPLE PLAY ACCOMPLISHED”. I wish I could photoshop.
