Getting released
Tony Lastoria's got an interesting set of interviews with anonymous (altough it'd probably be pretty easy to figure out who they are) minor league players about how the process of being released by the team works. An interesting read.

My wife asked me why baseball players always seem so grumpy and moody. I said, I think its because they spend 5-6 years of their life in the minor leagues.

Player A is either Justin Pekarek or Bo Ashabraner I guess. Probably Pekarek.

Though neither is on the “Washington Wild Things” Website. So I’m flummoxed.

Additionally, the pitching coach for Marietta College is in for a big surprise if he ever reads this.

Yeah, that struck me as an odd comment too. They way he says it, it sounds like he knows that the coach is going elsewhere. But that doesn’t seem likely, since he (Coach Mann) is fresh out of college and in his first year at ‘Etta. Maybe he (Eisenberg) is just taking note of the fact that the Pios had a poor (for them) season, going just 23-20 and failing to make the NCAA tournament.

I love this “behind the curtain” type stuff. Good find.

Very interesting. I’d love to find more articles of this nature.

The third one’s harder as the only identifying information is not very specific (college draftee, low rounds, good one year, bad second, pitcher)....so it’s hard to say. Maybe Nathan Bunton?

My first instict was Fultz, only because it seemed to indicate that he had been on the ML roster last season. Then again, I read this article two days ago so my recollection is somewhat fuzzy..

But Fultz was released during spring training (not the end of the season), and was picked up by another team.

Adding guys in the minors on Facebook is a pretty good way to get a lot of guys playing Independent ball on your Facebook friends, I’ve discovered. (Although, shockingly, the Curse of AngG doesn’t seem to apply quite as heavily to this. Some guys are actually doing a lot better than I expected them to.) It’s pretty awkward when dudes start getting released. (One of the guys got released during the season last year, which was most awkward.)
By which I mean, thanks for the link. It was an interesting read.
