Kinda sleepy in here. I guess a bunch of the folks from the old thread missed that turn in Albuquerque and ended up in Pismo Beach instead.
hey mario, you’ve been reading up on mental illness, right? what’s your take on the guy at the plate?
I’d think he’d benefit from some of Chuck’s 1950s-style thorazine.

So you’re saying you don’t have sensitive ovaries?

This will turn green before I finish typing this sentence.

Nope, just a sudden inspiration; but I have been holding onto that “Fist of Steel: Reds Hunter” for weeks, so it all evens out.

For some reason this made me think of Curtis Pride.
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
He didn’t know about Wambsganss’s triple play. That pretty much cemented his idiocy for me.

Retract this. If anything they took a ball headed into the stands and made it a tough call for the umps.

Anybody want to give me odds that Ryan Garko has an option exercised this year?
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 9:26 PM EDT reply actions
No, but Vic surely has.
Oh, you mean “adjustment to his swing,” don’t you. Never mind.

As I said above, he looked terrible every other atbat during that series, and even during the atbat where he got a double. I know he still produced, three XBH are still awesome, but I’m thinking BIG PICTUREEEEEEEE.

I read something on MLB trade rumors, but those aren’t rumors i’ve heard.
It's the Arizona talking, really.
A bad blog can very persuasive over the weak-minded.

Sure. I was just busy today. And it was kind of interesting watching everyone else respond, as I’ve tried to do in the Marte thread as well. I need to weigh in on a few points in both threads.
I always knew it was you, Voltaire. You broke my heart.

You’re getting traded to Bless You Boys. Sorry, Jay.

We’re on the verge of something hilarious.
Who will pinch-hit for the pitcher. Wedge could conceiveably go to Carroll instead of Marte, put him at third and let Blake go to 1st. Holy shit.
They’ve heard that RBIs don’t matter. That’s why they’re all always trying to slug.
by Fiddlesticks on May 16, 2008 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions
Another wonderful feature of NL baseball.

This whole Marte thing is such a fairy tale.

I fucking knew it. I FUCKING KNEW IT.
What the hell. Jamie Caroll? We’re serious?
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Jay this is going to be spun as putting our best defense out there, isn’t it? Because having Aba at short is about the only justification I can see here.

I love how everybody’s always joking about having C.C. pinch-hit. Even if they don’t really know they’re joking.
i remember clamoring for him to pinch hit last year – or rather hafner pinch hitting for him in the 9th inning, and i was irate then and still am

Jay can we start making a list of questionable decisions?
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Michaels would have backed it up properly.
by Fiddlesticks on May 16, 2008 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions
You could really tell that Blake is one of the best athletes on the team from the way he chased that ball all the way into the corner, after knocking it all the way into the corner.
by Jay on May 16, 2008 9:44 PM EDT reply actions 2 recs
I’m rec’ing this solely because you’re using the nickname.
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I’d say I’m a bit more afraid of the SF from Dunn than Encarnacion.
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s a “Vanderbilt sports” kind of thing. You’d have to live it to understand it.
by Fiddlesticks on May 16, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Willis: Jensen, stay tall, extend toward the plate, use the off-speed stuff. Vic, keep out Dunn’s wheelhouse. Jamey, Jhonny, close eye on the runners, communicate. Blake, catch the fucking ball. Okay, break.

I can’t imagine what you mean by this, but whatever it is, Jorge ain’t gonna like it.
by Fiddlesticks on May 16, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions
A guy named 10littleindians shows up in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded, and as Jensen walks in a run he utters “out out out”. If that’s not comedy, I don’t know what is.
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions 2 recs
Fucking Phillips takes six minutes to trot down the third base line and touch home plate. Fuck him. Fuck him with a sharp object.
It’ll make the rounds until it gets to Mastny, which is the same as disappearing altogether.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s working hard if it’s making it all the way to Mastny in Buffalo.

You can’t fault the guys for not knowing. I forget he exists a lot of the time.

Sure, you can’t fault them. They’re volunteers, doing this in their spare time. It’s not like anybody’s paying them … other than Satan.
by Jay on May 16, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions 3 recs
Oh okay. I fault them. I’m just saying, Breslow’s a little like that time Clea Duvall was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and eventually became invisible because everybody forgot she was there.

Well, that wasn’t a stomp. More over an omp. Or a sto.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 9:56 PM EDT reply actions
It was basically Marte and AbacAb or Gark and Carroll right?
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Just a bullshit night all together by the homeplate umpire, who set up the two-out Phillips’ homerun by giving Griffey the walk, and who dug out Dunn by not calling the 0-1 pitch a strike, putting the whiff-master into an 0-2 count.
Ryan if this is a time machine just come out and say it.
by supermarioelia on May 16, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions
I assume he’s making reference to play last inning which resulted in Casey Blake’s first big-league punt.
by Fiddlesticks on May 16, 2008 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions
You know, I’m beginning to think this Blake guy wasn’t the answer at third.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 9:59 PM EDT reply actions
Well, pretty clear-cut: This one gets laid at the feet of Casey Blake.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 10:05 PM EDT reply actions
Only in the meta-sense, which is that Casey Blake is still a starter.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions

They mostly beat the bullpen. If you get to the 8th inning, do you want Jensen Lewis and Rafael Perez or Jeremy Affeldt and David Weathers?
Perfect time to promote Jason Cooper and Brad Snyder. At least they swing the mother-lovin’ bats.
by fleerdon on May 16, 2008 10:12 PM EDT reply actions
Cooper is playing part-time and Snyder is .188 in the last 10 games. I tend to believe the
Aubrey story.
