Interleague Play

Tonight's game reminds me why I approach interleague play with trepidation.

Lopsided interleague records have had strong effect on standings in the AL Central.

2007 AL Central Interleague Record:

Detroit 14-4

Minnesota 11-7

Kansas City 10-8

Cleveland 9-9

Chicago 4-14

2006

Minnesota 16-2

Detroit 15-3

Chicago 14-4

Kansas Ciy 10-8

Cleveland 8-10

2005

Cleveland 15-3

Chicago 12-6

Detroit 9-9

Kansas City 9-9

Minnesota 8-10

2004

Minnesota 11-7

Cleveland 10-8

Detroit 9-9

Chicago 7-10 (?)

Kansas City 9-9

The Indians have not played well in interleague games during past two seasons, and seem to have problems with the Reds, with whom they've gone 3-3 last year and in 2006. That's not bad, but Cleveland should do better against a lame Reds team.

The AL Central is primarily playing the NL West which is weak this year, and the Indians are skipping the Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks are playing the Tigers, Royals, and Twins, plus the A’s and Red Sox.

Haven’t checked in detail, but based on records to-date, the Indians must have one of the easiest interleague schedules this year.

i think it was stark who noted last week that the tribe has the easiest interleague schedule based on W-L records at the time.

And yet, here we sit 0-3 in interleague play having been swept by the @#$ Reds. Those of you not in Columbus have no idea how pissed off I am about this.

I like the idea that everyone in the greater Columbus area is aware of your disgust.

There was a distant rumble in the Eastern suburbs of Cleveland. I had thought it was thunder, but perhaps?????

To be more accurate, in Columbus I deal with Reds fans on a daily basis, many of whom are extremely excited about working the word “sweep” into their conversations on a regular basis, and who will continue to do so for the next few weeks.

What’s weird is Cincinnatians think the Reds might be good. “Just wait until Homer Bailey comes up!”

AL took the advantage on the first night, 7 – 5.

Indians seem psyched out by Reds. Some of it has to do with the impaired offense, but GAP is a bandbox. Today felt like the Indians were waiting to lose.

Strongly disagree. The team basically played the same way all week as they have in Cincinnati.

by Jay on May 17, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, unfortunately, that is correct. But I really thought they would wake up against Reds pitching in that ballpark.

by odradek on May 17, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Interesting that against AL teams, the Tigers were only 74-70 last season.

My impression is that your main source of solace at this point is learning more and more facts about the Tigers that indicate they’re not so good.
