Cleveland Indians @ Cincinnati Reds

Cleveland at Cincinnati, 1:15 PM (WKYC)

Michael Aubrey is in the lineup, his first major-league start. At this rate, he'll have more at-bats than Andy Marte by the time Joe Borowski gets off the Disabled List.

Marte in charge of keeping the dugout supplied with sunflower seeds

Did I miss the memo where Pronk was deemed unable to play in the field? I know it was just one homer, but it’s kinda weird we haven’t seen him since.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:32 PM EDT   0 recs

You missed a lot of memos. Don’t throw at Phillips, Anyone but Marte, Hafner can’t play the field, Closer by committee until Joebo saves us, etc

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 12:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Last part makes me throw up.

Mario didn’t miss the “Anyone but Marte” memo, trust me.

Lets hope Clifford can get us out of town with a win. I feel like I am in bizzaro world, with the Reds having good, young starting pitching and position players. It was a lot easier to live with Reds fans when their team didn’t have much of a future.

by bewwolv on May 18, 2008 12:33 PM EDT   0 recs

They won’t have a future once Jocketty gets going.

by gahnki on May 18, 2008 12:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I am incredibly sick of our lineup. I don’t expect more than a few runs.

by mjschaefer on May 18, 2008 12:34 PM EDT   0 recs

I’d settle for a few runs. This lineup against Volquez, I expect a shutout.

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 12:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah I’m resigned to a loss today.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You know things are going bad when we are resigned to a loss when a guy with a 0.67 ERA is going

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 12:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We’re going to lose 0.67-0

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The guy with the 0.67 ERA is the one who sagely pointed out that it’s hard to win when you don’t score.

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 12:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This lineup makes me wanna puke. It might be bad enough that another terrible offensive performance today won’t even spur any moves tomorrow on the offday.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:34 PM EDT   0 recs

Jamie Carroll has gotten on base twice in his last 19 plate appearances. So let’s bat him second!

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Oh, and he’s struck out in 7 of those 19. That’s the guy you want following Grady.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

you can sure bet if he has an 0/4, we’ll really be shouting FE WEE

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:44 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

wtf? two underscores makes letters italics? it was supposed to be FIRE WEDGE with blanks in it.

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That looks like fun; I’m not waiting for the 0-4.

FE WEE!

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 12:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

FE WEE is definitely the new slogan for Fire WEDGE!

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 12:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope I’m wrong with all of these negative posts.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:39 PM EDT   0 recs

You seem to be spot on to me…

by mjschaefer on May 18, 2008 12:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Why the hell is Garko not in there? He’s really been heating it up. Wedge must be “saving him” to pinch hit because in his world, 1 AB is more productive than 4.

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:43 PM EDT   0 recs

Gark’s right-left splits for the year are pretty atrocious in a SSS, but I think the bigger issue is that his atbats are still atrocious despite some better results in the past few games. He hasn’t had a game off since the Yankees series, so I really don’t mind the day off today.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:48 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

With Aubrey on the roster, Hafner is now #5 on the depth chart at his defensive position. Good thing he hits so well, or else his roster spot might be in jeopardy.

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 12:44 PM EDT   0 recs

in related news, Aubrey is our #3 3B behind Blake and … Carroll.

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Alright so who would’ve thunk in April that on May 18th our lineup would have Francisco and Aubrey in the 5 and 6 holes against the #2 starter ERA-wise in baseball. Oh, and Carroll would be batting second. And that Andy Marte would still be sitting. Welcome to the bizarro world.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:50 PM EDT   0 recs

Hey, he’s got a glove! How cute. I guess he’s hoping to get a chance to catch a foul ball, and then maybe Blake will autograph it for him.

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 12:52 PM EDT to parent up   2 recs

good point. he’d get more action in the first row behind the dugout.

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

of course he has a glove. it’s been cold out. and he never gets to move around and get the blood flowing, poor guy. he must be freezing

by mpstable on May 18, 2008 12:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

PREDICTION (which would result in 444 DUUUHs in a non-bizarro season):
Lee and Volquez both give up >2 runs today.

Give Marte a Chance.

by westbrook on May 18, 2008 12:54 PM EDT   0 recs

I really don’t dislike the Reds at all. The Bengals on the other hand….

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 12:55 PM EDT   0 recs

Canada-Russia in the final of the world hockey championships. Wee!

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:56 PM EDT   0 recs

Is that like the World Cup?

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 12:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Naw it’s yearly. And involves only players that have already been knocked out of the NHL playoffs (which by this point is nearly everyone) and players that agree to play. Nevertheless, it’s still damn exciting. Russia has Ovechkin and Kovalchuk on the roster, while Canada has Heatley and Nash. The Olympics are way bigger than this though.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 12:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So the Russians have Ovechkin and the Canadians are without Crosby?

Aside from a few college hockey factoids, that about covers my knowledge of hockey.

by SanD on May 18, 2008 1:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wee? What does Eric have to do with hockey?

by SuddenSam on May 18, 2008 1:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Eric Wedge would actually be one helluva hockey coach. Only playing gritty white guys? Yeah he’d fit in juuuust fine.

Couple of black guys.

by supermarioelia on May 18, 2008 1:15 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Where is all this talk of the Reds as a team with more of a future coming from? We have 2 young pitchers (Carmona and Laffey) who have been absolutely dominant this year, and two middle-aged pitchers (Westbrook and Lee) who will be good for a while, and some pitchers with potential (Atom Miller and Sowers). Isn’t this better than anything the Reds have? Also, aren’t their best hitters other than Brandon Phillips really old?

Disappointed by the Indians since 1995.

by FaustosSinkingFastball on May 18, 2008 12:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Dellucci batting .229 with a 692 OPS? Holy smokes he’s fallen off since the Yankees series.

I’m sure it’s happened in a WS before interleague play..

Ah I just assumed they meant 1-2 in the majors. Leaders in each league makes it less cool.

Nice at bat

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 1:20 PM EDT   0 recs

I got so swept up in trying to be positive yesterday that I think I said “we’ll still win this series.” Yeah, that was after the first two games had already been played, so that explains all the confused posts. Just realized that. Oh, and Free Marte.

by Pronk33 on May 18, 2008 1:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Great way to start the game Grady. Wonderful.

by Pronk33 on May 18, 2008 1:24 PM EDT   0 recs

/singles to center. I guess that’s why.

by Pronk33 on May 18, 2008 1:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

by Roger Dorn on May 18, 2008 1:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You really have to try hard to be that bad.

by Pronk33 on May 18, 2008 1:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m a little surprised we’ve had 16 RISPs. Does that count the three guys that trotted through Scoring Position after hitting homers?

by Fiddlesticks on May 18, 2008 1:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No, but we did have two guys who stole 2B with two outs, deep into the current AB. So it was like, scoring position for 1-2 pitches, and of course there are times when the batter will take a pitch to help the runner get over.

by Jay on May 18, 2008 1:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs
