And here’s a penetrating insight offered by the author
The blog Defensive-Indifference does not think Lee will be able to sustain his current pace and I happen to agree.
And then the capper:
I am a 22-yr old baseball freak from Philadelphia currently writing for Statistically Speaking while occasionally contributing to The Hardball Times. I am also the Magic & Performance Expert at eHow.com as well as an award-winning screenwriter.
Who wouldda guessed?

Do you want to elaborate? Are you biased against young writers or people who have diverse job skills?

I think that the less than sign cut off my post here’s what it shouldda said:
Common Patty, this whole thing speaks for itself. And if making the Enstienian observation that Cliff won’t post an ERA of less than 1.00 is a “job skill” then I need to redo my Cirriculum Vitae.

That wasn’t my point. I know the piece smacks of a bit of false profundity. I’m just saying that when you dis the author because he’s 22 and has other weird jobs, I don’t get it.

I thought he was dissing him for being from Philly.
If he was dissing him for being a magician, though, I think that’s fair game.

I’m saving this guy’s resume for the next time I need to define “Internet dweeb”, cuz he’s not just interested into magic, but he’s a “Magic & Performance Expert ” and he doesn’t just write screenplays but he’s an “award-winning screenwriter”. I’ll bet that if you asked him if he knew anything about statistics he’d tell you he’s the second coming of R. A. Fisher.
Now this guys a lot funnier than royals review ever thought of bein’.

It makes sense, really. Would you expect a MPE to do anything but put on a show for almost anything they did? It’s their nature, right? The odd thing is that there is absolutely no field that has less appreciation of that nature than the statistical community. If he’s smart enough it’ll work OK, but if he oversteps his bounds he’ll be corrected pretty quickly.
whatever.

Man, I love FanGraphs and the Hardball Times, you know I do, but sometimes the analytical quality control drives me nuts. I sometimes wish BP were a little better written — they are charging to read the stuff after all — but you can’t very often fault the basic quality of the analysis on that site. I often disagree with what I read at BP, but I would almost never call it bad analysis. Other sites (some on our own network) have pretty bad or banal analysis on a regular basis.
I need to do a whole piece surveying the “what’s right with Cliff” articles, because there’s some smart stuff out there but also plenty of stupid stuff. The stupid stuff is equally divided between thoughtless regurgitation of existing theory and brainless misapprehension of it. There’s a lot of “stats analysis” writing out there these days, very little of it either new or thoughtful.

I’d love to see a biomechanical side-by-side of Cliff this year vs. last. I can’t help but think of how smooth his windup and motion is whenever I see him pitch this year, and it’d be interesting to see what has changed.
