He’s a team guy. Trying not to make the other guys on the team look bad. Or, perhaps that’s how you demonstrate grit. You do poorly at something, then work extremely hard to do it better, kick a few buckets, etc. One could go on
I also suspect he’s not seeing a lot of good pitches, given who’s hitting around him, and he’s always been the kind of hitter who takes what’s given and doesn’t try to force things. That’s what makes him good.
Do we know for sure that he’s healthy? Remember he came up lame on opening day.
