Tribe fan from far, far away
After reading those comments I think you’ve convinced me on why the world is being made dumber.
A person named baseballguru says:
I think they would have to do a three team trade and anything that would gain them value would start with Sizemore. Maybe you want to build around him, but it’s looking more like crumbling than building and he can get you three good pieces, rather than 1 great and two halves as it currently is.I would say a three team trade could make it work and I’d love to see Sizemore back in the NW since he grew up in the area and I followed him as an All-American type runningback. He would also be a good fit for Seattle with being left-handed and he could eventually replace Ichiro in CF.
Seattle
Ryan Feierabend, Jeff Clement, Oswaldo Navarro, Miguel Cairo, and Sean Green to Cleveland.
Doug Fister, and Richie Sexson to Colorado.
Colorado
Matt Holliday and Ian Stewart to Cleveland.
Todd Helton and Ryan Spilborghs to Seattle.
Cleveland
Grady Sizemore and Josh Barfield to Seattle.
Kelly Shoppach, Adam Miller, Rick Bauer, Ben Francisco, and Asdrubal Cabrera to Colorado.
Unbelievable.
Yeah, really. Imagine. Moving BARFIELD?! :-)

didn’t sizemore play qb? hate to question a guy who followed him so closely…

Some people seem to spend a lot of time reading rosters and coming up with preposterous trades they think make perfectly reasonable sense. “Let’s see…go down the Mariners’ roster and pull out a few more names…Cairo! He’s good, too!”
Why does anyone bother coming up with conjectural trades? Do they think Mark Shapiro reads their suggestions, and sees the wisdom of their astute reasoning? The GM thinks: Miguel Cairo? Damn, I hadn’t thought about him.
There seems to be an entire cottage industry of idiots coming up with implausible trades. Have any of these people noticed that such trades are rarely ever made? Where do you park these guys on the 40-man roster?
Forty-man roster? What’s that? The Indians get Matt Holliday!

Heading out shortly for lunch and to take the kids to the circus, so will miss the game. Wearing my Indians home shirt, GO TRIBE.
One day I'll get over to watch the Tribe play

Is Marte still alive? Have we confirmed that fact?
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
What a throw from Matthews Jr. in the Sox-Angels game earlier…a must-see. Not Ankiel-like, but pretty sweet.
Actually who am I kidding, after drawing two walks yesterday it was inevitable that he was going to bat second today.

I know it’s been beaten to death, but Wedge’s insistence on giving Blake 4 ABs a night at third base is completely indefensible.

I just can’t wait for him to dip below .200….a nice big slump might force Shap to intervene.

Everyone is all over Wedge and Shelton all the time, but is there any coach more consistently wrong than Joel Skinner?

We need a new promotion at the Prog where one lucky fan gets to be 3rd base coach every home game. It can’t be worse.

what a horrible decision…seriously…..you send him with no down?
On second thought, i guess hes right. I definitely wouldnt want runners ont the corners with no down.
That was the point of my earlier post

How many guys have we had thrown out at home this year? Can we break up the work of looking through boxscores by the week? Any interested? I’ll do week 1.
And by boxscores I mean play by play data.

by supermarioelia on May 24, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions
We’ll find a night with more willing participants to break up the work. Game 8 appears to be the only game in the first 11.
by supermarioelia on May 24, 2008 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Here’s the rest up until tonight, from a quick scan of Baseball Reference.
Aubrey was the fifth Indian thrown out at home. Game 8 was mentioned above. The others:
Game 18 @ MIN (Cabrera)
Game 28 vs. SEA (Blake)
Game 29 vs. SEA (Hafner)
However, we have recorded 6 outs at home since game 13 (I didn’t check the first 12). One was a force play (Game 42 at CIN, Garko to Vic forces Bako), and another appears to be bad baserunning (Game 30 vs KC, DeJesus was on third, no other runners, and was tagged by Vic on a comebacker to Sabathia.) We have four outfield assists from four outfielders:
Game 14 vs. BOS, Pedroia gunned down by Dellucci
Game 16 vs. DET, Sheffield thrown out by Michaels (!)
Game 39 vs. OAK, Thomas thrown out by Grady
Game 42 at CIN, Hairston nailed by Ben Fran
Aside: I used the word “at” twice in that. I had used the “at” symbol, but that produced the stupid formatting. Like this: ‘at stupid formatting at’ looks like this when using the ‘at’ symbol: stupid formatting

Is Cliff actually good? I mean like actually good, as opposed to lucky or ridiculously whatever happened through his first 7 starts good, but like above average pitcher? I mean, this is his 3rd worst start of the season and it’s still a very good start. What do we make of this?

If JoeBo comes in and shits the bed, I will lose all respect for the ENTIRE organization. He should not be put in there until they’re absolutely sure he’s ready. The whole process has seemed a bit rushed over the past week, as if we were desperate to get him back.
/rant
I would hope that activating him means they are absolutely sure he is ready.
by Denver Tribe Fan on May 24, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s the idea. Still, even when completely healthy, Borowski is probably 40% susceptible to “shitting the bed”. At least.

i would hope that wanting to amass as many victories as possible would mean that they never play him again, ready or no…but that’s just me
by DontCallMeJoey on May 24, 2008 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions
You know how they operate. Joe is the closer, he’s going to close when he gets back. Now he’s back.
Plus the bullpen is depleted from last night, there is little confidence in RaffyR and none in Masa, it’s a 3-run lead (hopefully). It can’t be Mujica.
Thank goodness it’s three runs. And I really do hope Joe becomes servicable. I really do.

I’m pretty excited to hear the rationale for benching Marte tomorrow.
“Well ya know we did have some trouble there for a few games. Lot of the young guys were pressin a bit. I thought I’d go with a bit of a veteran presence so I went with Blake in the two-hole, and I really do think that sparked us. Of course he’ll be in there again tomorrow…you don’t mess with what gives you the W.”
if joebo gets up to 88 MPH…will he be sent back in time? please??

Two things:
1) Borowski was horrid, but lucky. I’m not sure if it was mentioned on the broadcast, but in the later innings there was a pretty solid breeze blowing in from RF. I’m moderately certain that one of those shots (especially to RF) is gone in a normal wind.
2) I’m claiming credit for the victory. I wore the Marte jersey to the game this evening. That jersey is now 2-0 on the year. I don’t care if it makes no sense, I’m sticking with it.
i went to tonight’s game and have a few things that stood out
first, andy marte write left handed. they showed him on the jumbotron autographing a ball for a kid, and he was definitely writing with his left hand. i found that very odd.
second, borowski was lucky to get out unscathed. the radar gun at the park had him mostly at 85 with i think one 86. it was no warmer than the mid 40’s and the wind was blowing in pretty hard, but he still had 3 warning track fly balls. all 4 balls were hit hard. in july they tee off on him manny-style
third, hats off to the indians for the way they treated the make-a-wish child who was their special guest today. they let him throw out the first pitch, announce the indians hitters on the PA for an inning, and showed him taking BP and shagging flies before the game.
Ben Francisco = Cleanup hitter when Victor returns?
Dawgs By Nature - Find out why Pittsburgh still sucks.
also at the game tonight (first of the year!)
i’d add the hamilton was a joy to watch in the field. he caught a bunch of hard shots hit over his head and made one amazing throw on a flyball out near the warning track where grady tagged and went to 3rd. damn near got him. stadium was buzzing. stud throw on the order of the ankiel throws from last month. on the other hand, cliff really got in on him with the inside fastball.
milton looked great at the plate.
pronk and astro had their moments, as did jhonny. blake looked awful – and i mocked a highschooler wearing a blake jersey sitting in front of me. i’m not particularly proud of that. oh, and for what it’s worth, dellucci looked tired and slow. i know, i know . . .
there is significant fan anger directed at skinner. and wedge.
and, yes, as mpstable noted, borowski was very very lucky. had hamilton reached, bradley would have hit as the tying run. not a good scenario.
that game was some serious fun! living 2500 miles away is no fun …
