The Indians need an offensive upgrade desperately, and are bringing up Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins and left fielder Matt Holliday in trade talks. The Indians, though, do not plan to send struggling second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera to the minor leagues despite his hitting woes because they don’t feel Josh Barfield would be an upgrade. …

I think a trade sending away guys I like would frustrate me more than anything. One guy acquired in a trade isn’t going to do anything for us, be it give us production or make the other guys improve my osmosis. Ben has had an unbelievable string here, and that hasn’t exactly translated to more wins. We think getting Atkins will do more?

Dellucci stopped producing almost at the same time as Bfran got hot. Not referring to Atkins specifically, but I think adding another productive bat won’t improve this offense. It just has to – if only by removing a particularly cancerous one.

my helmet has, like, no pine tar on it.

You’re right that the key is to make a move that represents the biggest upgrade, adding together the proficiency of the acquired players with the deficiency of the player getting shoved out of the lineup.

Er, thinking that adding another productive bat won’t improve this offense *is wrong.

I think I saw that both Atkins and Holliday didn’t play on Sunday due to injuries (don’t know how serious they are).

Holliday is on the 15 day DL.

so, is there a source for this?

by Gradyforpresident on May 26, 2008 1:37 PM EDT   0 recs

I asked, and the answer is, not really.

god bless journalism

Well, it’s like, there’s talk around the league, he just said that the source wasn’t anyone with either of those two teams, nor was it an MLB official, so that it possibly was just echo-chamber talk.

And people pay to read that stuff?

by supermarioelia on May 27, 2008 9:22 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I do. I think BP membership is an excellent value.

Yeah I guess I pounced a little prematurely there, since I buy a newspaper daily provides me with next to nothing substantial.
