I love the pitching matchups for this series:

1. Bug Game II
2. Battle of the Undefeateds
3. Oldtimers Day

Marte’s going to stink it up. When does the Hodges watch start?

by piersall on May 6, 2008 6:39 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

I started last year.

by oxforddave on May 6, 2008 6:44 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

If I’m going to have to admit to being Andy Marte Sr., then you sure as hell better pony up to being the father of some girl Marte fooled around with in the DR only to never call again.

I was always the Cliff Lee apologist and got ridiculed for this last year. Hopefully the tables will turn and you will be the prescient one next year.

I’m usually the idiot, but let’s hope things change.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:54 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Why the fuck is Wedge posting on LGT 20 minutes before gametime? Disgusting.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:46 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Would’ve been damn cool to see Droobs start in 2-hole too. That could’ve legitimately been our lineup for the next 3 years.

Nevertheless, a new era in Indians baseball begins tonight. Hop on the bus folks.

I just want to get this out of the way at the start: I can’t stand Jim Donovan. HIRE UNDERPANTS! Now I can relax.

I can’t stand Jim Donovan

AAAAAAAAMEN.

The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.

We really lucked out facing Pettitte instead of the Moose tonight as far as lineup renovations go. No way Wedge would’ve benched Casey with his career numbers against Mussina.

mario aren’t you excited about marte playing? it single handedly made my day 3x better

I haven’t been this pumped for a Tribe game all season. Season opener be damned.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:53 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Plus I’ve missed the past three game threads which has been a bit weird.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:54 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Wedge would like to play Marte more but right now going day-to-day, giving Blake some time to figure things out

by palcal on May 6, 2008 6:54 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

I can’t imagine the pressure Marte feels with every atbat up there, knowing the bullshit standard he’s being evaluated by.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

To expand on this a bit, say Marte goes 0-4 tonight and looks bad. Clearly Blake will get the start tomorrow, and even if he goes 0-4 against Wang, you know he gets the start in game 3 against Mussina with his career numbers. So one game of failure costs Marte two more starts. Yay for the default choice.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:58 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I like to think that the decisions aren’t made day to day like that.

by dgcambridge on May 6, 2008 6:59 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I would too, but welcome to your 2008 Cleveland Indians!

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 7:00 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

And if Marte sucks tonight and still gets a start tomorrow, I make Eric Wedge’s face my new desktop. Sorry jamootz.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 6:59 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Ryan Miller’s start today: 6 IP, 1 HR, 1 ground ball single, no other balls leaving the infield. 7 Ks, 3 BBs. Pestano with the save.

Our Captain offense is just plain old. But they did score three runs off 1 hit.

by dgcambridge on May 6, 2008 6:55 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

Nick went 2-2 with a double and 2 walks last night.

Uhhh.

Yeah.

He still hasn’t gotten his big expose on TSN or Sportsnet up here. Once that happens, let the hype-gates open. Errrr….open further.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 7:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Now OPSing .983 with 26 walks in 109 PAs.

by afh4 on May 6, 2008 7:01 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

He’s almost got the league lead. The only guy ahead is hitting .400+.

by dgcambridge on May 6, 2008 7:02 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Yeah it’s a joke. He’s only batting .313, which is great but not CRAZY.

I don’t want to jump the shark but since I jumped it 18 months ago with NICK THE STICK I’ll say it:

This shit is sustainable.

by afh4 on May 6, 2008 7:04 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

another few weeks of that and he’s due for a call up

Wait, Weglarz is of native descent?

Here’s a quote from his draft-day article from the Toronto Sun:

“Dad, dad! Nick is going to be an Indian!” the daughter said excitedly.

“He already is one,” Rick Marriott [grandfather] said, never breaking stride.

Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.

Please take fear from bats!

1) Make a little more room on the Weglarz bandwagon.
2) I’m happy as hell that Marte’s in. Photoshop forthcoming.
3) Game face is on.
4) God I HATE the Yankees. Year in, year out.

It was hit too slowly and too deep for Peralta to make a play, though I feel like I say that a lot when I watch him at short.

by fleerdon on May 6, 2008 7:19 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Wow Jeter really motored down the line there.

by supermarioelia on May 6, 2008 7:17 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

Mills doubled in his first AB.

I’d rather be watching Kinston, actually.

I didn’t realize Jeter was that fast.
