Hey, a REAL game thread.

Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

Heh. This gem just in from sportsline:

A. Pettitte (3.80) pitches to
T. Hafner (.205, 0-for-2, strikeout): Strike swinging, Strike swinging, Strike swinging, Ball, Ball.

I hate when people complain about how slow baseball is. Basketball is like 20 seconds of standing there dribbling followed by a foul & 3 commercials. Until the end of the game, when it’s 5 seconds of dribbling followed by a foul & 3 commercials.

Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

Wow, the scouting report is out on Ben Fran…slow and slower. He threw him a big breaking ball on a 2-1 count with nobody out and the tying run on first. Wow.

by TribeJay on May 6, 2008 9:22 PM EDT reply reply   0 recs

Possibly that’s a typical approach for a guy just called up?

by Jay on May 6, 2008 9:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Not in that situation, I wouldn’t think. Risk walking him? And, they had the flame-throwing right-hander in the bullpen and chose to let Pettite face Ben Fran.

Please let Andy hit, I know he can catch up to the Farnsworth straight fastball

This might be amateurish of me, but I hope Cisco and Marte start standing a bit close to the plate. Cisco especially looks flailing.

Does everybody understand that Marte is in fact batting right now?

THat was my bad, I thought the Dellucci had been put in for him

by drerikbrady on May 6, 2008 9:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I triggered the false alarm. They showed Dellucci with a bat and helmet, apparently set to bat if Shoppach reached.

by xrickx on May 6, 2008 9:27 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I started the confusion when I thought Marte was up before Shoppach

by Roger Dorn on May 6, 2008 9:27 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I think he was up in case Shoppach got on, but it didn’t happen.

He’s saving Dellucci so he can break his bat against a Rivera-cutter in the 9th…

by TribeJay on May 6, 2008 9:26 PM EDT reply reply   1 recs

I imagine that Dellucci was going to pinch-hit for Marte if Shoppach reached base, which would be a sensible move. With two outs and nobody on in the 7th, on the other hand, it doesn’t make sense to start using up players.

Also, there is no way in hell I’m watching God Bless America. I love this country & all, but the Yankees can suck it.

It only seems reasonable to sing of god considering the Indians are the team from hell.

by xrickx on May 6, 2008 9:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I didn’t want to say it, but they’ve totally sapped any meaning from it at this point.

Also, I think they’re playing the cheesiest version of all time.

by gte619n on May 6, 2008 9:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I thought my erstwhile co-bloviator had it nailed last October …

If another team pulled this on the Yankees, Steinbrenner would raise hell, and he’d be absolutely right to do so. And if the Yanks’ pitchers could miss bats the way Tynan misses notes, the Yanks might’ve had a prayer against the Tribe.

Full glorious rant.

by Roger Dorn on May 6, 2008 9:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

He actually had his name legally changed, a la Boof Bonser.

Never mind Joba changing the name, his parents let him change it?

Screw that. I’m calling JuLo until someone can come up with something better.
