I almost went.
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
I meant here …

are you sitting next to pat tabler? is really gainfully employed as an annoucer somewhere? most importantly, does he still maintain one of the all-time mullets?

couldn’t possibly be worse than cone, right? pat borders must have been busy…

Tabler’s pretty bad, but when he gets a day off we get to listen to Rance Mullinicks…so I’ll take Tabler thank you very much.

I think I read in the PD that Blake has the best career numbers against Halladay, albeit just 4-11. I do hope we see Marte twice this series, though it’s four tough righties in a row.
Right, because we can really use Blake’s .238/.307/.413 line vs. RHP.

Thank goodness the o/u for the Jays is about 5

Just feels that when the ball leaves his hand he’s praying he hits the strike zone. Contrast that to Cliff Lee who tells the ball where it better fucking go.
by supermarioelia on May 9, 2008 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions
With this wildness I’m hesitant to say that CC actually meant to put it there. A strike’s a strike I guess.

Just made a huuuuge deal of how Vic doesn’t have a homer yet.

He actually looked like he had a clue there. I love action by inaction.

Have a good one. I have a feeling I’ll be talking to myself most of tonight.

I’m here, just being massively time machined, and listening to Hammy, which means I can’t comment on how terrible/awesome anyone loo—GRADY.

What are you up to this summer, Ang? Or are you done having “summers” by now?
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I’ve got a legit 9-to-5 now. (Technically 8-to-5, stupid industrial sales. :( ) So I’m mostly living weekend to weekend. Seen a couple minor league games, heading out to Cincinnati next weekend to see the guys. Adjusting to living about two hours further south than I used to. It’s weird.

Haha, aw, the Man’s not so bad. Plus you can write, so you’ll always have that in your back pocket. Just avoid being a bank teller.

I’ve actually been thinking of going back to school and getting certified to teach. I love tutoring, and I’m a pretty good teacher, but on the other hand, I hear teaching high school given the system as it is in the US right now is pretty much the most frustrating job ever.
Disclaimer: this post doesn't mean what you think it means.
Got a lot of friends who went that route. “Frustrating” sounds like a pretty accurate summary of their reactions to it. But I get the sense, it’s one of those things that if you’ve got to do it, you’re never going to be okay with something else.

Yeah. Went to high school here, left for college, came back for law school.

You going to the Tribe-Tigers series in June?
by supermarioelia on May 9, 2008 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Oooh, good call. I’m a research assistant for a book project that’s due in July, so I can’t look that far into the future. But color me interested.
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions
FYI I bought my tickets to the Sunday game this aft. All I could find on the Tigers site were limited view, but I was looking for four tickets.

Thanks for the heads up. I accidentally made friends with a bunch of MSU grads down here—maybe I’ll see if they want to bar-hop the series.

They’re a Weglarz comment there somewhere.

I’m trying to do miscellaneous tasks and I keep missing batters. Gameday is broken, and it’s hard to piece together the game from comments like this.
Haha Grady lined out to Aaron Hill who retreated into right field to make the catch.

I’m very much not over the fact that he’s the better part of four years younger than me. Then I think, well, hey, I’m not an athlete, I could still be a writer. And then I think, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote This Side of Paradise when he was 23. Then I power up the PlayStation and stick a straw in a juicebox and rock back and forth hugging my knees.

I’m still getting myself back into the habit of writing, really. 500 words a day is still a little bit too much for me, but I’m working up to it. Really.
Disclaimer: this post doesn't mean what you think it means.
Most novels are about 100,000 words, no? But a journey of a million miles…
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions
I think once you get to 50,000 words it’s technically a novel, but most are longer than that, yes. I’m still trying to get to “novella.” It’s not an issue of being able to create a story that long, it’s a matter of, um, not getting bored with it before I’m done.
I think I’m a short story writer at heart.

Since we’ve got the thread to ourselves, can somebody tell me what the hell this Meg Ryan business is? And then let me remind you, Joe Vs. The Volcano is a superb rom-com.

I’ve been meaning to get around to seeing that, actually.
Disclaimer: this post doesn't mean what you think it means.
Well, I’m not sure how meaningful this will be to you, but it’s my screening test for girls. I show them JVTV, if they like it, I know we’ve got a chance.

This is tough, given the mixed company and all but it has to do with teams being unable to hit C at all – not at all.

Let’s just say that Ms Ryan is a victim of gravity.

Long story and a half. You remember when we used Butt Gout and Low Titter to describe things which cannot be named? Instead of actually saying Low Titter, I posted a picture of Meg Ryan with saggy boobs. Which Jay banned. Along with every comment about the picture. It was actually pretty hilarious. In fact this explanation will likely be banned too haha.

Eh, my boobs have looked better lately also. I’ll ahve to ask Chuck how to whip my ass into shape this summer.

In a bit of good news, it says Westbrook is progressing nicely and he’ll be on the comeback trail soon after a successful bullpen.
In other news….so is Borowski.
So, Fausto’s still got an option left, right? I’m worried about that BB situation. /ducks

From what I saw Wednesday he’s gonna be just fine,

Any thoughts on Laffey, Chuck? I can’t tell if the book isn’t out on him yet, or if he’s really just that effective.
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions
I love Laffey – love him. Which is why I wanna trade CC – now for a bat. He’s gonna be gone after this year and we desparately need some hitting. So why not get what we need and give up what we’re gonna lose anyway?
"the most vehement Yankee-hating guy I know" - Jay
That’s got a lot of visceral appeal to me, particularly since 89 wins might win the central walking away this year. But I worry that Adam’s long-forseen Byrd collapse would come upon us.
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Because the hitters are going to rebound, C.C. is going to rebound, and not many teams will give up anything of substance at this moment.
The Yankees will be desparate – desparate for a lefty starter in 4-6 weeks. Watch.
"the most vehement Yankee-hating guy I know" - Jay
and we get what from them? Society letdown 1 and 2?
The Disabled List just called ... it was trying to unload Joe Borowski. I offered a bagel but balked at giving up a ham sandwich. It wanted to keep Westbrook.
I’m just not sure what direction we’d go with that, though. A 2B, 1B, maybe a RF?
by fleerdon on May 9, 2008 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t think it’s at the point where a trip down is necessary. He’s still managing to stay in control of the game…barely. He’ll be fine. It’s mechanical.
Yeah, I s’pose a fake-15 day visit would be more likely than the ol’ optionoony.
I have no idea why I called it that.

Yeah upon further review I was wrong. If they were confused amonst their own team we can’t expect our guys to read minds.
But seriously let’s hire Pevey. Great call there.

I almost wanted Casey to go around there. Swinging at a ball landing wide of the opposite batters box is a feat.

Wedge…go home with your bunt. Delllucci’s swinging ok, but are we really setting this up for Peralta? Gutierrez is the only one whose made decent contact twice tonight.
Wilkerson in center… o boy.

Man, it just seems like these guys are waiting on the fastball down the middle that never comes. Early in the bat, pick out an offspeed pitch or look on one side of the plate, please!!
