A blow to cynics who criticize the AL East centered nature of baseball today. By which I mean, I am surprised.

Did ESPN not get a vote this month?

Holy crap, for real?

Sure. The game in TX was in June. His May line was pretty fine.

I don’t trust anyone to ever notice us is all. He deserves it, I just didn’t think he’d get it.

It’s hard to ignore a 0.64 ERA.

Let's Go 2009!

Wow. I thought for sure it’d be a Bos/Ny guy.

The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.

It’s kind of funny how Gillette sponsors an award often given to someone not old enough to shave.

While you have to love seeing Cliffey and Laffey getting nods for their performances, it’s hard not to feel a wisp of regret that our year is still in severe danger of slipping beneath the waves, regardless of our pitching depth. Grrr.

note that online voting counted for 20%, writers and broadcasters 80%

But mauichuck said:

“Laffey has no shot at RotM – none, zero as long as there is any other option associated with either the Yankees or the Red Sox.”

Sometimes its good to be wrong.

I’m stunned. Who wouldda thought that merit would creep into the voting. I may hafta re-calibrate my percieved ESPN/BoSox/Yankees bias – nah, this was just a fluke.

Boston and New York always win these awards. Remember when that douche Pedroia won the AL ROY over a totally more deserving Delmon Young.

by ClarkM on Jun 11, 2008 11:23 PM EDT reply actions

An immature punk would have won either way.

by gahnki on Jun 11, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Also, I can’t believe the Yankee Captain won the MVP in 2006 over the more qualified Justin Morneau.

by ClarkM on Jun 11, 2008 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, I knew you were joking. It’s just the fact that an immature punk would have won either way applied there.

by gahnki on Jun 12, 2008 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

At least Delmon is the Meat Hook’s brother. What’s Dustin got going for him?

Do.

Not.

Care.

Was going to say this. There may be an east-coast bias, whatever.

by joeee on Jun 12, 2008 1:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I just hate that our season is where a rookie of the month award is the best news of the week.

Although, we won a series!

by afh4 on Jun 13, 2008 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

I was gonna say … does anybody really care about this?

I feel like I’m missing a big joke, one that would explain why most of this thread exists.

If we go in the tank for 3 or 4 years you’ll learn to cling to little victories like this.

The hell I will.

And how depressing to realize that I’m not dismissing the whole premise out of hand.

Are you still in Princeton?

by Jay on Jun 13, 2008 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

For about another hour, then I’m off to Maui. My cell phone number still is the best way to reach me.

i’d like to just say it’s refreshing that a man of your generation has embraced new technologies like cellular communication.

When Large Len Barker pitched a perfect game it was like the Tribe had won the pennant.
