So I guess he continues to play every day? This is what you’re advocating for?

No, I am saying that there is justification for riding the hot hand. There was every reason in the world to bench him when he was stinking up the joint, but like it or not, he’s been pretty good at the plate of late.
Barfield can’t swing bat today. Wedge suggests DL if he can’t swing tomorrow, would not be replaced by Cabrera.
At first I thought this said Wedge suggests that Barf DH if he can’t swing tomorrow. Which would be hilarious.

Cool. Byrd now on pace for a 27 pitch game.

And that would really be something. Especially for the cat on the very top.

wait, is that actually jordan brown in our lineup?
by Gradyforpresident on Jun 11, 2008 7:22 PM EDT reply actions
you mean you don’t think you can manufacture runs with a pop to 2d, soft groundout and K?
by DontCallMeJoey on Jun 11, 2008 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions
people seriously, did jordan brown get called up and is hitting 4th in his first major league game or is CBS Sportsline gone totally insane?
by Gradyforpresident on Jun 11, 2008 7:23 PM EDT reply actions
that’s not what it says on mlb.com. no one named brown anywhere near the clean up slot.

hammy/hegan say on the pitch before the groundout he looked like he “did something” in the hamstring region

Haha Undermanning claiming that he might’ve been doing it to keep it out of the sun. Um…he went into the sun.
Yeah, but I mean Blake hesitating to move the sun out of Garko’s view? I don’t see it.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions
He threw a one hopper so that Garko could see it off the ground rather than him losing it in the sun.

Uh-oh, looks like we’re going to have to cross the 1 run threshold to win this one tonight
by millionairesrow on Jun 11, 2008 7:29 PM EDT reply actions
Well, there’s the groundball to the pitcher one batter too late. All in all, Byrd worked out of it. I’ll take just giving up one run.
Just realized, the Indians are in Denver for the first time ever, and we get to see Byrd, Laffey, and Sowers pitch. Ugh.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Laffey is good. The other two are pretty unexciting, considering we have Sabathia, Fausto, and Lee on the team.

I was there, too, for 2 out of 3.

Tell me if anybody else heard Underwood say this: “The problem for Byrd, and I’m not sure this is something he’s thinking about right now, is that he happens to pitch on a day when the Indians offensively haven’t been able to score a whole lot of runs this year.”

I am amazed at the K-rate this team puts up in crucial situations. It’s as if a majority of PAs with runners on and one out result in strikeouts. It’s been a serious problem. Ks in and of themselves aren’t terrible, but the attendent benefits of that approach (putting a little more oomph in your swing for more power) aren’t there.

Makes me wish I could be a little more Jay-like; you know, offering devastatingly terse and impregnable responses and showing a little more edge. But I have to bite my tongue a bit. All I can do is take them apart point-by-point until it’s useless to carry on.
I just got sick of it. I got too tired of Trying To Make People Like Me while still telling wrong people they were wrong. Unfortunately, usually I couldn’t come up with anything other than, “No. You’re wrong. Good day, sir.”

The first inning I got to watch tonight was that last offensive suckfest, so I figured I’d try to change my luck in the game thread.
