Did Francisco give up on that ball or is it just me?
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
I said it in the last game thread, I’ll say it again in this one. There is so little I like about this team right now. Ugh.

This seems like the worst of all possible outcomes…we lose, but the Sox lose too. So we stay in limbo.
Big guy?

For all of the Marte discussion that goes on here, it is amazing there aren’t more questions like “What the hell happened to Hafner?”
Are you kidding? That horse is deader than a Derby runner up.

Bullshit. I’m just an admin assistant. Work for some cool people, though.

ironically, unfortunately, (surprisingly?), those are the first runs borowski has given up since his return. this is his sixth game since he’s off the DL.
Luckily we have Blake/Gutierrez/Carroll up in the ninth. Wow, we’re fucked. Any word in the last game thread on what happened to Martinez’s elbow? It’d somehow be a fitting topper to this season if we managed to lose him, too.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
So is Garko hurt?

How great would it feel for us to end up with one of those ass-kicking, young, bulletproof closers?
Speaking of which: Fernando Cabrera can burn in hell.
That guy made me look so stupid. I was telling anyone who would listen that he would dominating for years. YEARS.

Were you at the game last night? The polled the whole roster about which Indian they’d vote for Prez, and The Beard won in a landslide. Even Grady votes for Blake.

Ok. I’m just about ready. Let’s find the market for:
Sabathia
Byrd
Lee
Peralta
Blake
BFran
Borowski
Shoppach
The addition of Borowski is my favorite part of it.
Can you imagine someone giving up anything of value for Borowski?
Hire… Matt Millen?

Sabathia
Byrd
Borowski
There can’t be a market for Blake. I refuse to believe there’s anyone dumb enough.
Keep Lee, Peralta, BenFran. I’m 50/50 on Shoppach. Someone’s got to catch, it seems inevitable that Vic is going to break down.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Now would be selling high on Blake. Someone would want him.
Burn on, big river, burn on...

Shoppach has more value to someone besides us and just because we screwed that up with Crisp doesn’t mean we shoudn’t try again. Toreagas is going to be a servicable back up catcher next year and if he’s not, Chris Giminez will be. Those guys are too old to keep down there anymore.
Lee’s value is at an all time high, or at least it was a month ago. I realize he’s super team friendly but the idea of shipping him and CC to somewhere like LA for a whole passle of players makes me salivate.
BFran is at an all time high and we don’t need him. I am not a fan, clearly.
Peralta, meh. It’s time for Asdrubal at SS. We can find a 2B somewhere else.
Not Yet, but Later This Month if we don't get within 5G of First:
Out of this group, I’d be really pissed if we traded Lee.
BFran I really wouldn’t mind keeping—as a long-term (unfortunately) DH replacement for Proon.
Shoppach I’d keep, given the uncertainty of Vic right now.
Borowski, Byrd, Sabathia—see ya’ll lata.
Blake – hmmmmmm. I’d like to see him on the team as a super-utility guy, but Wedge would still play him every single frickin day, so CYA.
Peralta – the real hmmmmm. He’s so good 1/3 of the year, and so bad the other 2/3. Asdrubal doesn’t hit well. We have to 2b to replace Droobs there. Can JP play third – or not?
The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.
Is there any way I can buy DVD’s about some of the 1990’s ballclubs? I might start popping those in every night if I could get a hold of them
Seriously.
I might possibly be able to die happy if I could buy the 1995 and 1997 post-seasons on DVD.

Some clubs (I’m thinking specifically the ‘97 team, which was unbelievably good) are aiming for the Series, not just 100 wins.

by Fire Slider on Jun 11, 2008 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions
The ‘97 team won all of 86 games in the regular season. They were probably our 9th best team of the past 15 years.
I guess my point was that it was a club that we knew we could go to the Series with.

Of course. My point in saying they never won was, there’s still a lot of pain in those memories. Getting close, as everybody knows, can be even more depressing.

I completely agree that there’s a ton of pain. It’s just that the good memories outweigh the bad by a ton. I mean, who wouldn’t kill to go back and watch great teams play in front of a packed house every single night.
I want to cry.

You want to watch those? Ugh.
I have the Jacobs Field 10th Anniversary Box Set, it’s got season recaps of every year of the Jake, from 1994-2003. I’ve never watched 1997. The pain is still too close.
Il faut d'abord durer.
The 1997 ALCS 1997 is only painful when you think of what came next. Watching those games alone like, say, Major League, would be just dandy with me. A couple of my fave games evar in that series.

Have to wake up bats!
I just want to re live some of the games I attended in person. I know it would bring me back to the electric crowds
Major League is my fix.

This feels worse. I went to all 3 games in St. Louis in 2006, the Tribe won all 3. I felt great about the team, and I saw Fausto mow down the Cards out of the pen. I have no such optimism this year
didn’t the indians lose a game in that series in a horribly stupid fashion? like someone dropping a popup on the infield? i remember that we should have swept but didnt. and i remember that series being typical of that season in ways
I was at the game where Sabathia beat Reyes. Ronnie Belliard homered. For the Tribe.
There was an article in the St. Louis paper comparing Pronk to Pujols.
LONG DEEP SIGH.
Steel Nick
Nice that game was fun, I had my brother and some relatives that got to go on the field before the game during Indians batting practice while I told them the players names so that the Tribe would all sign for them
I was at a Cards game earlier in the year against the Reds. Phillips had just started getting PT from Cinci-way before the breakout-and was just standing there, a few feet away from me. It was fielding practice and he wasn’t doing anything. I joked to my friend about having him sign a ball as “Franchise.”
ANOTHER LONG DEEP SIGH.
Steel Nick
Only if Pronk came back and started raking.

If we all hated Shapiro instead of loved him…
Would there be any legs to the idea that the FO is adding guys to the DL to cover their ass, making it look like this year was lost to injury instead of lost to whatever it is lost to (a complete breakdown of a winning culture)?
I find that hard to believe. But…
Hire Conspiracy Theories!
What else are we going to do?

Yea…I really don’t want to post it on the internet, though. It was just something that sheds him in a different light than “the hero that returns home” as he was made out to be by the media. I could email it to you if you’d like.
Fascinating. I wonder what he did.

How I feel about 2008 Indians:
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.
Choose your future.
Choose life.

Jay, in seriousness, what’s the point of rec’ing stories? Don’t they all die the same way, falling off the page?
I believe they do. I distinctly remember a green story somewhere.
We have to all rec something so we can prove this.
Haha there have never been green stories. This is what you get for late night drunken LGT visits. Don’t worry, I’ve done this many a time as well.

You’re joking right? My sarcasm meter is in the shop for a tuneup.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Rec’d posts get bumped to the top of the list and stay there for a while. Haha you’ve been the beneficiary of this a number of times now, which is why I’m confused.
Unless you mean rec’ing posts that are already on the main page. Then I think they go straight to Cooperstown. I think. Not positive.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
A story is something written by someone marked as an “author.” This basically just Jay and Ryan. Stories are what creates the main page content.
So my question is what’s the point of rec’ing a story? They don’t go into any special spot or anything.
A fanpost or fanshot is different. Obvi.
Alright this makes more sense. Yeah I’m still going with Cooperstown.

I’ve been asking for this for a solid year now, and I’ve finally given up the fight.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions
There would actually be a lot of boring filler involving curse words and politics. But boy would the “BANNED FOLKS” chapter be illuminating.
Steel Nick
There’s probably less material than we think. I’m guessing, what, 15 instances tops of stuff getting deleted? Am I underestimating this?
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah but the book would have to include the posts that set the precedent for these certain posters being ban-worthy. Like that epic fight Bannedini had.
Steel Nick
Well, that’s not all that would be appropriate.
Pretty much every post by certain posters, especially those who were later revealed to be trying to stir up trouble, could be analyzed for indications of true intentions, etc. Also, you could look at threads of arguments that they kept bringing up, months apart.
To put another way, E5’s medicine posts aren’t deleted but they are fodder for the book.
Alright excellent, this changes everything then. Because GTF’s ramblings were fantastic but he was never banned. And I’m also requesting an entire chapter including all of tborish’s posts. You could always count on him to brighten your day.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions
No way. I think he just left when we questioned his credentials about claiming to have played the game at a high level. And by questioned, I mean that we mocked him for comparing high school baseball to the pros.
by supermarioelia on Jun 11, 2008 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions
There would need to be a section about E5 showing up at Lookout Landing during the raid under the pseudonym E LGT 5
It was the “home game” in Seattle. We raided LL to make it our “home blog”.

that game was also the game where luis rivas hit like 4 home runs and drove in 17 runs

If we’re gonna suck, I’d rather suck really bad now and free up the rest of the summer. I got a ton done in the summer of ‘06. Nothing worse than an August/September collapse.

Heh. This is exactly the way I’m looking at this: my productivity hangs in the balance with this season.

Have to wake up bats!
Here’s another way to put it. People might actually die in hospital at my hands in September if we stay in the race all the way through the summer. If that’s gonna be the case, we better not collapse at the end. No way I’m dealing with getting kicked out of school without a WS.
