Hard to imagine this team could only be 6.5 out after tonight.

This division really sucks this year.

Hard truth: Your eyes lie.

by AngG on Jun 12, 2008 4:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Sucks or is everyone largely average and playing at a competitive level?

Nah you are right, it sucks.

by mjschaefer on Jun 12, 2008 5:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Man-legend Kelvin Diaz has a .429/.515/.607 line through his first 8 games in the Domincan League (ignore the fact that he’s now 21 and playing against a lot of guys who are 16-18).

by APV on Jun 12, 2008 5:07 PM EDT   0 recs

if only we could (damn visa requirements)

There’s got to be more to this story….

How about Gimenez? He’s on the verge of going totally Kouzmanoff down there. Look at his monthly splits.

by Jay on Jun 13, 2008 3:43 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He isn’t exactly putting up the power numbers Kouzmanoff did, but he seems to have taken a page out of Weglarz book when it comes to walking (.498 OBP now).

by APV on Jun 13, 2008 7:51 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually, the power numbers are pretty close. KK never had huge ISO, he just had solid ISO on top of a huge average, which is what Gimenez has. KK’s ISO in Akron, 2006 was 1.70. Gimenez is at 1.58 now.

by Jay on Jun 13, 2008 9:40 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

But through 67 games, KK had 30 extra-base hits. 19 2Bs, a 3B, and 15 HRs. Gimenez, through 50 games, has a similar 2Bs rate but nowhere near the HRs.

by APV on Jun 13, 2008 10:05 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Gimenez’ ridiculous walk rate is making it look more uneven than it really is. His HR rate is lower, but his 2B rate is significantly higher.

Gimenez has an extra base hit for every 10.1 plate appearances, Kouzmanoff was one per 7.9. Adjust that for the walks (and SF, HBP, ...) and Gimenez is at 1 XBH per 7.7 AB, KK at 1 per 7.0.

Gimenez is walking in 23.5% of his plate appearances, Kouzmanoff was only 8.3%.

and, as if on cue, stephanie storm with a profile on the versatile gimenez, highlighting his patience at the plate.

You should FanShot that.

Just goes to show how every little piece needs to fall into place in order for a team to get it done. We knew we were pretty lucky with injuries last year. And I do recall all the predictions that we won’t be as lucky this year. But crud, when it rains it pours. At least tickets will be easy to get, right?

It's the Arizona talking, really.

by RD74 on Jun 12, 2008 6:15 PM EDT   0 recs

Tickets were already pretty easy to get.

by gahnki on Jun 12, 2008 6:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

We were lucky with injuries last year? We lost a significant chunk of Westbrook and Lee’s season to injuries last year. Really, all of Lee’s season, as he was never remotely effective after he came back.

by Jay on Jun 12, 2008 8:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I would agree that we were pretty lucky. The injuries were to our SP where we had some depth and we were relatively healthy the rest of the year.

I said go if you wanna go,
Stay if you wanna stay
I didnt care if you hung around me
I didnt care if you went away
And I know you were never right
Ill admit I was never wrong
I could never make up my mind
I made it up as I went along

And though I treated you like a child
Im gonna miss you for the rest of my life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you

I never had any time
And I never had any call
But I went out of my way just to hurt you,
The one I shouldnt hurt at all
I thought I was being cool
Yeah, I thought I was being strong
But its always the same old story
You never know what youve got til its gone

If I ever catch up with you
Im gonna love you for the rest of your life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you

And if I ever catch up with you
Im gonna love you for the rest of your life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a, all I need is a,
All I need is you (all I need is a miracle)

That one goes straight to the karaoke to-do list, just behind Huey Lewis and Tom Jones.

What, no Genesis?

I’m joining gahnki in the chorus of hope. And it’s not totally irrational either. Sure, hitting some magic number like 90 wins looks daunting, but if we rattle off a little winning streak-just a few games-and take the next series against the Sox, everything looks a lot better.

by jhon on Jun 12, 2008 6:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You know what was great about that band? No Phil Collins.

by Jay on Jun 12, 2008 8:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If we win this game we will have won the first series in a long while. All we have to do is keep taking two of three from teams. Win each series and we’ll be leading the division in no time.

by gahnki on Jun 12, 2008 6:36 PM EDT   0 recs

The Tigers have 37 losses. The Indians have 38. Can the Tigers actually win the division? Maybe not with Bonderman out, but…

by odradek on Jun 12, 2008 6:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Indians have 36 losses.

I BELIEVE

And I’ll be in Chicago for the next Sux series, making sure our boyz take it.

And that there might be one other avail. I think Thommy said he was out of town.
