Official 2008 Indians Sweet Surrender Photoshop Thread
The last photoshop thread we had on here, started by the inimitable emd2k3, really helped me vent my frustration over the whole Blake/Wedge situation. So what better way to lament our latest and greatest additions to the DL (Victor and Barfield) and the subsequent loss of all hope for the 2008 season than with another photoshop thread?
With that in mind, here's my first attempt at capturing the current mood...
Lets go Tribe!

says the man who predicted our offense wouldn’t hold a resurgence without Victor.

Guilty as charged. It’s a one-game resurgence, mind you, not unlike other games we’ve seen this year. I hope to be proven wrong on this. Feel free to pile on in that event.

Fun idea, but the original post seems to be in pretty poor taste. Anyone have any thoughts on that, pro or con?
by Jay on Jun 12, 2008 9:53 PM EDT 1 recs
I’m pretty pro on this one. I understand if someone else has a problem with it, but I laughed.
The best part is that the last line reads like a caption. Hanging Chief Wahoo. Let’s go Tribe!

I’m good with it. It pretty much sums up our thoughts pre-resurgence.

Yeah its pretty close to the line. But I’d say its just harmless venting.
My timing could have been better though. Serves me right for playing in PS instead of watching the game.

I’m pretty con. I’m an overly sensitive guy but all I can think is how I might feel if someone close to me had hung themselves.
Maybe that’s a little heavy and a bit of a tough standard but that’s my gut.

You expect me to pay attention to your opinion of what’s in good taste? Seriously?

I think I generally operate very, very far on the plus side of good taste.
I don’t see what’s so insane about a vague implication of periods from a book that EVERY 11 YEAR OLD GIRL IN THE WORLD READS.
People are so icky about bodies. I get that. But suicide is on a totally different level because of the emotions involved.
And yeah, I get that you weren’t really seriously.
And your avatar has totally worked. I see you as George Clooney in my mind’s eye.

That’s funny (the whole post), but the last line in particular. I totally envision George Clooney running LGT, too.

You know what’s funny about this is that I never would have picked that avatar for LGT. I picked it for Facebook as a joke — like I really care about Facebook — and then when we got avatars here, I just went with it, because at that point a lot of people already knew it. I’ve given a lot more thought to other people’s avatars than my own.

It really kind of makes me think of George Clooney differently, I’ll tell you that much. I’ve started to envision him as much angrier.

Me too. Every time I see one of the “Ocean” movies I expect him to just tear into Matt Damon until Damon cries and then accept congratulations from the assembled crowd and saying “now you’ve been told.”

i’d say it’s at least straddling the line.
suggestion: most of us have seen it so the people that like it can remember it and Kevin can have fun making a new one to replace it. it’s as much the precedent it sets more than anything. i’d hate it to be a thread full of suicide themed images.
who the hell took the original picture in the first place?

It’s a staged picture. Obvi.
I think the precedent is a very good point, not just for this thread but the whole site.

I think the whole thread is offensive because it says we’re a bunch of quitters. It ain’t over until we say its over! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!

Also, I’d like to say I’m far more concerned about prematurely giving up on the season than I am about the suicide theme. But, I suppose that’s just me being me (a meaningless corollary of ‘Manny being Manny’, which is in turn a meaningless corollary of the originally meaningless ‘it is what it is’).
by danvail on Jun 13, 2008 10:18 AM EDT 0 recs
Well, look, if that’s gonna be the only image it should go away. Certainly we can do better right?
How about a theme? Movie posters? Marte-as-hulk? Have you seen this player milk cartons?

But we must learn to be equally good at what is short and sharp and what is long and tough. It is generally said that the British are often better at the last. They do not expect to move from crisis to crisis; they do not always expect that each day will bring up some noble chance of war; but when they very slowly make up their minds that the thing has to be done and the job put through and finished, then, even if it takes months – if it takes years – they do it.Another lesson I think we may take, just throwing our minds back to our meeting here ten months ago and now, is that appearances are often very deceptive, and as Kipling well says, we must ”...meet with Triumph and Disaster. And treat those two impostors just the same.”
You cannot tell from appearances how things will go. Sometimes imagination makes things out far worse than they are; yet without imagination not much can be done. Those people who are imaginative see many more dangers than perhaps exist; certainly many more than will happen; but then they must also pray to be given that extra courage to carry this far-reaching imagination.
Closing remarksBut for everyone, surely, what we have gone through in this period-I am addressing myself to the School-surely from this period of ten months, this is the lesson:
Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty-never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

This is the way I feel at this point.

Being a Cleveland fan is really starting to take its toll on my self esteem…..why now? Not really sure, you think Edgar Renteria would have stole my soul in 1997, but I continued to believe. I am really starting to think God truly hates the city….

A friend of mine was so drunk one night in the flats that he grabbed an unknown girl’s purse right out of her hands, puked into it, and handed it back to her. I felt like this might be relevant. It’s in the top 5 moments of my life.

Very nice. I literally laughed out loud.
I think the looks on their faces convey the following conversation:
Wedgie: ” Thats not a roll of quarters is it?”
Blake: “Not a chance, Sugar.”
Wedgie: “What have I become?...”

Awaiting the WS Ring
You ask how much I need you
Must I say that
I need you my obsession
Like Marte needs at bats
I’ll ask how long to await you
Please tell me true
Until the twelfth of never, I’ll still be awaiting you
Find a closer
Never let him go
Find a closer
Melt my heart like April snow
I’ll await you ‘till the owners learn how to share
I’ll await you ‘till Joel Skinner regrows hair
I’ll await you ‘till the poets run out of rhyme
Until the twelfth of never
And that’s a long long time
Until the twelfth of never
And that’s a long long time

Three Rings for the White Sox under the sky,
Seven for the Red Sox lords in their fens of stone,
Nine for Athletics doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Gotham where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Gothamwhere the Shadows lie.
