Chris Antonetti is ours and you can't have him
From Castrovince. Antonetti likes it where he's at:
"I hope I've been very clear how happy I am in Cleveland," Antonetti said. "I'm looking forward to continuing to build a winning team here. Hopefully I've been clear with that. That's not with respect to Seattle. That's my situation here. I'm very happy."

So, what the plan for Antonetti? Is there a set-in-stone date he becomes GM? It’s kind of wierd that Shapiro would just walk away at that point.

Shapiro has proven to be highly employable elsewhere. It’s not like the Cleveland job is the plum of baseball. Resource constraints have forced unenviable decisions on Shapiro and baseball executives recognize it. From what I’ve read about Antonetti, he’d make a fine GM for us.

Cleveland job is the plum of baseball.
Maybe no, but It’s up there. Deepest pockets to sign FA does not equal best job. Shapiro has pointed out numerous times about how important the control Dolan gives him is a huge part of why he likes it here.

Yeah, how’d you like to have Cashman’s job? Ya gotta feel like a bear keeper, hopin’ Hank doesn’t eat one of the reporters and crap on the rug.

Can you imagine the reason that Antonetti takes over being Shapiro leaving for greener pastures? I would fear that team. A deep-pocketed team with an unobtrusive ownership and Shapiro at the helm? No thanks.

If we can have jerseys with players’ numbers on them, why can’t we have open-collared button-downs with Antonetti’s intials on them? Cuz, you know, he’s my favorite player.

I once tried to customize a jersey online that said “Antonetti” with “GM” as the number.
Letters are not part of the “customizable” jersey function.
Antonetti, by the way, just built a house on the West Side with his Cleveland-native wife, who is playing the Amy Hafner role in this situation to much acclaim.

does that mean Chris is gonna completely fall apart at any time now? And find an injury(s) to blame it all on at some point next year?

I swear I was going to do the same thing with “Shapiro” and “07” if things had played out differently.

I have shared this thought with my long-suffering wife at least a million times. She still doesn’t get it.

Shapiro’s next job is not likely to be a baseball GM job. I think he is looking beyond that.

All joking aside, the Shapiros are heavily invested in politics. I wouldn’t put it past him to get involved in some way.

Gammons reported a while ago that:
"It appeared Antonetti was leaning toward moving to St. Louis until Indians owner Paul Dolan stepped up, defined the succession process under which Mark Shapiro will eventually be the club president and Antonetti the GM and made other promises."

I imagined him having that thing on his back seat on the way home, and gleefully looking back at it every few seconds as he speeds home. He couldn’t be up to any good.
