Its gotta be Slocum, right? He’d be on turn, and the fact that Castrovince is reporting that Josh Tomlin is starting tomorrow in Buffalo, means that Slocum would be promoted. Slocum’s line in his last game was awe-inspiring:
5 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 2 HR.
On the season, Slocum 3-4, 5.66 ERA, 49.1 IP, 51 H, 34 R, 31 ER, 30 BB, 45 K, .262 Opp BA.
On a related topic, I’d assume Slocum would then get demoted after the game to give the team another bat/pitcher. With Elarton, Mastny, and Mujica using the bullpen coloring books, adding a Jensen Lewis doesn’t really help. So, I’d assume it would be a bat. Who? The only three on the 40-man and not active are Snyder, Barfield, and Toregas. Or, you could put Miller on the 60-day DL and add a Jordan Brown or (gulp) Jason Tyner. Who gets the 4 days while Sowers gets lined up for the following start?
I will not sleep well tonight. I’m leaning towards bumping up Lee on short rest if he is up for it. Possibly an emergency start from Slocum on Wednesday. As deep as we are with starters, this really screws us up on the 40 man.
Just a thought, but where does this fall on Huff’s schedule?

Huff’s also not on the 40-man, and I imagine won’t be added till the off-season

Frankly, I find this whole bit offensive.

my prediction: a Jensen/ Elarton/ Mastny handoff with the hope we can get seven innings out of this troika
the difference between trading CC and others now versus later in the deadline = well i wanted to say it was more than nothing but i actually have no idea. i’m just totally despondent about this offense

Shapiro’s most significant mid-season deals have come weeks before the deadline. Both the Colon deal and the Asdrubal theft came right around June 30. In particular for “rental” players, their value decreases steadily as the seasons rolls on — three months of a rental is significantly more than two.
