Any predictions about Byrd’s outing this afternoon? No way he gets shelled again, right?
I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!
This is one of those games that I really don’t have a good feeling about.

he was on a 1 good-1 bad game regimen for awhile. that ended with his last start, which should have been good, but was bad.

I’ll be contrarian. I think he’ll be fine. I get the impression the Dodgers like to put the ball in play pretty early and that helps Byrd, I think.
He’s not that damn bad. He’ll find a way to finish the season with an ERA under 5. And that means he has some good starts coming.
my vote for Byrd: no confidence (disclaimer: I have been wrong more times than right in regards to Byrd)
Hopefully the Dodgers take their cuts and hit ‘em “too high”, where he only gives up two or three solo HRs through 6 IP.
i’ve found this match the most boring so far of an otherwise thrilling (and very surprising) set of quarter-final matches. both these teams look slow.
Well Fabregas is on now. We’ll see if that helps.
You don’t buy my theory that the Indians are getting super aggressive with KDLC?
they move people around in strange ways to make spot starts now and then. a few weeks back they had Josh Tomlin, who hasn’t pitched above Kinston and has mainly pitched out of the pen, make a spot start in Buffalo. i assume it just has to do with availability and convenience to some degree
Hmm.
You know better than I. It just seems like a weird thing to do with one of our few A+++++++++++++++ prospects.
If he’d gone 7 scoreless would he be staying?
Do Europeans act like this when they’re actually getting in fights? Like patting each other on the cheeks, smiling?
Hammy: “[Byrd] is not gonna have a chance to face Milwaukee this year… at least not withthe Indians”

Maybe it’s just because I didn’t grow up listening to him, but I’m not gung-ho about Vince Scully the way everyone else seems to be.
I sure hope our offense makes some noise this afternoon or this could be a really long game.

Anybody seeing this shot of Mujica warming up in some damn rainforest?
Oh also, Mujica is Spanish for “white flag.”

Is it wrong that when they mentioned Mujica was up, I thought to myself, “If he wears himself out, maybe they call up Stevens to take his spot while his arm recovers…”?
Is it just me, or has Casey Blake’s defense dropped off even more over the past week or so? In the game that Sowers started in Colorado, I thought there were about 3 or 4 plays that Blake would have normally made and missed. That last play was a stretch, but he still should have gotten it, IMO.
I have the season divided like this: Indians must with Sabathia and Lee starts. Indians hopefully win Laffey starts. Indians need to try and win one of Byrd/Sowers’ starts.
Scully lets me know that Casey got out in his 3rd grade spelling bee on the word Jeopardy. Seriously.
The Rockies announcers used this one earlier in the week. So either it’s in the media guide, or Casey’s telling everyone. Either way, not good.

One. Off of Justin Chamberlain.

that really sucks for as long as he’s been around. And like 40 of them were in 1 year.

Is Scully seriously still talking about Shoppach’s HS football career? He just detailed exactly how Kelly scored 4 TDs in a game.
I know this is an inning late, but I just want to say I hate National League baseball. Shoppach gets a double so we have men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs….but the pitcher is up. End of the inning. I hate having an automatic out (CC notwithstanding).
I know people talk about the so-called “strategy” required by the manager in the NL, but I don’t see how pretty much automatically bunting with the pitcher (unless there is two outs) amounts to much strategy. It’s just a black hole in the lineup.
I remember the Indians were linked to Billingsley in the 2003 draft because they had two first-round picks and a supplemental pick, and Bilingsley was an Ohio kid.
They went with Michael Aubrey, who’d been a stud at Tulane, and Brad Snyder, who was all kinds of athletic at Ball State.
Damn.
STO just showed the Trevor Crowe went 4 for 8 in a doubleheader with a home run. I haven’t heard much about him this year—is he still considered much of a prospect? Or have we given up hope on him?
answering your question, the love for him seems to have receded somewhat…but will probably return to a degree. he was one of those weird guys who was incredible well regarded without ever having produced much above A-ball
Here’s a quiz for you Adam.
Is there any reason for us to not be more excited about Stephen Head than Trevor Crowe?
Stephen Head’s a fringe sleeper kind of guy. He’s never put up what you would consider “good” numbers, despite regularly having decent peripheral numbers. At this point he’s kind of old, but maybe he’s finally turning his peripherals into performance. It’d be nice to see more power, though.
Kouzmanoff’s “rise” was mostly batting average related with a Marcus Thames spurt of power that has since gone away.
Casey was playing first when he first came up and was holding Robbie Alomar on. Blake had never really played first. Alomar leans over and says “Kid, you don’t have to hold me on. There’s a runner on second.” Blake looks at dugout, all of his MIN teammates are falling over themselves laughing.
seems strange for Robbie to say that. Let him keep the hole open.

I’m going to assume Kelly’s chasing because he knows he has to get a hit. So he’s trying to foul it off and keep the AB going?
He just missed that one down the line.
For reals. 2 misses? Yikes.
I once had to wake at 6:30 to have a PK shootout because light had gone out the night before. It was in some state cup tournament or something.
I kicked it over the goal.
the last time I played organized soccer I was about 8. I was in goal and attempted a drop-kick. What I actually did was kick the ball straight over my head and into my own goal.

i’m happy, though. I don’t like Italy. Now that Croatia and the Netherlands are out, maybe I’ll root for Spain.
i really liked those two sides. of the remaining, I think Russia’s played the best, but i’m contractually obliged to not root for them. Turkey’s been lucky and now only has like half a squad for their match with Germany. Germans are scary. So I think I’ll root for spain (despite producing a really boring match today).
I have to root for Turkey after their last two games. I love seeing teams that won’t give up like that
I don’t know what they did with Paul Byrd after the first inning, but I like the guy they found to replace him. Let’s keep him in our rotation for the rest of the year.
And Isringhausen got out of it with 2 strikeouts. On to the 12th . . .

I just caught up on DVR. Anyone catch the STO explanation of why Skinner sent Jhonny?

So get this. They said that Skinner must have been thinking that if he didn’t send Jhonny, there’d be 2d and 3d with Shop coming up, and they’d walk Shop to pitch to Byrd. They really think Skinner was thinking that far ahead. Thoughts?!

Uhh.
Ridiculous.
Shouldn’t he be making the decision based on, you know, whether or not the runner can beat the ball to home plate?
Or based on the fact that the relay man was holding the ball as Jhonny touched 3rd?

Vin Scully says when Ethier had to go down on a knee to stop the ball in the corner, it was assumed Peralta would score. But Ethier made a strong throw to the cutoff man (Luis Maza) and Maza made a great relay to Martin. I don’t blame Skinner as much as Garko (strike out) and Blakde (fly out to left) doing nothing to advance the runner.
No chance in hell. That was all Skinner.

Looks like he started back. If he didn’t have a chance it’s because he’s slow.
I mean, it was almost caught anyway, right?
the ball dropped a couple feet in front of him, I don’t think he could have caught that.

Indians have now skyrocketed to 10 runs for the season in exta innings, but
are still stuck at 10 runs for the season in the 9th inning.
While they are in LA, they need to rectify this second problem as well.
Youo’ve gotta change your screenname to Ap. That would be so cool.

Naw. His one at bat comes against the closer. Look at how Grady fared. He’s had a rough season, but he ain’t a lousy hitter.
Nah, Gark knows how to go the other way. At least in the last couple of weeks.
