Man, I feel terrible. I really just can’t get amped up to watch this team as presently constructed.

This is so fucking depressing. SO DEPRESSING. Our starting fucking pitching is oustanding AGAIN and this shit… AGAIN.
OK…how about a DP grounder from Molina?

I would make fun of the Giants for batting clean-up, but unfortunately he’s out slugging our clean-up hitter
In order to reduce the team’s carbon footprint, the above slogan was recycled from the 2006 campaign.

Yes. By 2011, we’re really regretting the 4 year deal we gave Bonds down the stretch run in 08. Hafner has led the Yankees to three consecutive WS victories.

I have now seen it all. Jose Castillo officially just handled the bat. Jose Castillo is a career .257.299/.386 hitter.
I Had A Dove
By John Keats
I had a dove and the sweet dove died;
And I have thought it died of grieving:
O, what could it grieve for? Its feet were tied,
With a silken thread of my own hand’s weaving;
Sweet little red feet! why should you die -
Why should you leave me, sweet bird! why?
You liv’d alone in the forest-tree,
Why, pretty thing! would you not live with me?
I kiss’d you oft and gave you white peas;
Why not live sweetly, as in the green trees?

Wedge is unbelievable in his steadfastness. This offense completely sucks balls, but he still insists on shattering Marte’s confidence by pinch hitting for him in every late inning situation and not pinch hitting for anyone else
Oh I’m not arguing that we should’ve left Andy in there. Especially with how Casey has been hitting lefties over the past few weeks. But the whole way this has played out has just stunk.
by supermarioelia on Jun 24, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions
What percentage of Marte’s games started has he been pinch hit for though, because it feels like 75-80%
which speaks to an ENTIRE host of its own issues…but you’re right. maybe i want grady at the plate more than blake…maybe
by DontCallMeJoey on Jun 24, 2008 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Look, I am a huge Marte proponent but Carroll is probably our third best hitter right now.
I’m sorry but when all the hitters have gone to shit this is about the only way to look at things.
My only point is that there will always be an excuse to remove Marte from the game. We need to let him play through it
If he doesn’t play every game after July 10, come talk to me. But, as far as Wedge is concerned, this team is in the playoffs right now.
I guess as manager he has to play that way, it’s just going to be one of those situations where Marte needs a change of scenery I fear
Honestly the only way Andy is going to prove anything this year is when we officially go into sell-mode. No chance it happens otherwise.

I’m in agreement here
Burn on, big river, burn on...
by Turkmenbashi on Jun 24, 2008 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions
The issue is that despite being on the roster all season, come June 24th, Andy Marte has 50-at bats.
It was right for Wedge to hit Blake. The Indians need to try and win. But Wedge himself has not allowed for the circumstances to arise in which Marte presents just as good a chance as Blake to win, which, believe it or not, is not that good of a chance.
Agreed. I’d like to see a little frustration.

Awful was 40 games ago…we are exploring uncharted territory unless you can remember the 60’s and 70’s.

Did the 60’s and 70’s teams go into the seasons as serious contenders for the World Series ever though?
Obviously not, so we have definitely reached a whole new level of suckitude.

That swing on the 2-1 pitch was ridiculous by Kelly. Wasn’t even trying to make contact .. just hoping for a home run.
Mastny has actually had his moments – there was a stretch when he closed when he was effective and he pitched well in the playoffs last year. His last “trial” with the Indians wasn’t fair - he got put into a role he hadn’t been in all year and did predictably badly, then got sent down. I’ve been impressed, actually, by how he’s responded - he’s pitched very well since then. Maybe Roger Dorn is right and we should trade him while he’s “up,” but maybe he deserves a sustained shot—not just one or two sporadic appearances, but a chance to pitch regularly and show what he can or can’t do. It’s not like Masa or Betancourt have been models of reliability and consistency. What have we got to lose?
only more games, right? and we’re used to that…
by DontCallMeJoey on Jun 25, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions
At least I won’t feel betrayed when we trade him and then he signs elsewhere. Kinda like how I feel Colon never bailed on us

Just caught the end of the game, which confirmed what we all probably suspect—the Indians just aren’t a very good team right now. Oh well. Maybe it’ll force some changes and we can get things right next time. Poor Laffey. He deserved better.
If you can’t beat the Giants nor the Rockies, you are not a playoff team.
Put out the FOR SALE signs, kids. Ultimately, we’ll all feel better with some new blood.
Let's Go 2009!
Is it time for another intentional overreactions thread?
I did a Google image search for "Andy Marte." It turned up zero results.
I don’t know. The appropriate reaction threads are getting bad enough.

That’s the long and the short of it. The unspoken premise behind a M.o.C. is recognizing a lousy spell for being what it is: A spell, of non-indefinite length.
This current lineup, on the other hand … you’d have to convince me that they AREN’T actually this bad. I don’t need jokes about bunting, I need spreadsheets and syllogisms.

“We really grinded it out … it was a tough game all around. I love the way we competed. I’m disappointed, but it came down the last swing. That’s all you can ask for, you know?”
