Blah, blah, buy/sell, trade CC, sit Blake, third order wins, playoff odds, OSU academics, Grady bats third, Stark, Sheehan, something called the Eurocup…...LET”S WIN THIS GAME!

My only problem with the idea that trading him now is best is this: No one is trading yet. Whoever trades for CC will have to mortgage the future. They will have to give up a lot. It will not be a no-brainer.
We may not need 5 more weeks of information before we decide what we’re doing, but that is uncommon.

Well, this answer (“Shapiro knows best”) is always a conversation killer. I think I’ve used it myself, but it’s no fun.

Wedge gave injury update in pre-game news conference
Hafner’s right shoulder 40-50% of left shoulder; Indians want it to be 75% before he starts baseball
activitiies; he was at 30-35% 2 weeks ago
by palcal on Jun 27, 2008 7:14 PM EDT 0 recs
Interesting. So he’s got Jamey Carroll’s right shoulder right now, but they want it to be Ben Francisco’s level; two weeks ago he had Trevor Crowe’s.

Just looked at a weather map, my decidedly unprofessional guess is that there will be a game tonight but not for another 30-40 minutes or so

Who here would rather have CC bat than Dellucci at DH?
by Buckeye Brad on Jun 27, 2008 7:18 PM EDT 0 recs
That’s fine. But then I’d put Delluci at first.

What if CC bats and breaks his left hand and is out for the rest of the season? Then all we’d get are those draft choices. He shouldn’t even be pitching…

Hi there
Just visiting from RedReporter to see if you guys knew anything about the weather. What the hell happened to the Indians this year? I check their record occasionally out of curiosity, and don’t understand.

2. Sure… you’re here to torture us… don’t mess with our heads. Game should start around 8.
3. We suck.
4. You’d understand if you saw us play more often.

Gotcha, no subject. It’s weird how different sites have different ways of posting.
I actually did come here to see if anyone said something like the "light drizzle" comment above, as internet radar kinda sucks.
As far as torturing you guys I am in NO position to make fun, and would like nothing more than to see an Indians-Reds WS. At least for the last couple of years I could take a little pride in a decent team playing in the state. :)

A huge FAIL for me in the formatting dept.
Anyway, I said I was looking for something more than radar and am in no position to make fun. Also I’d love to see an Indians-Reds WS, and take at least a little pride in the Indians when they’re good since we’re in the same state.

should we make some odds on hbp for this evening?
or better: pick your Indians player and inning (or AB) to get hbp.
I’ll take Garko in the 5th (or 2nd AB)

Akron hammering one of the Phil’s top prospects, Carrasco.
by dgcambridge on Jun 27, 2008 7:55 PM EDT 0 recs
I had an interesting conversation with a Phils scout in Akron on Monday night. Long story short: He hates with a passion beyond most words Trevor Crowe and worships the ground that Wes Hodges walks on.

Interesting. Not surprising, I guess. Hodges is clearly the better prospect by any measure.
What does he hate about Crowe? Anything specific? I always though Crowe was a scout’s guy. And his current performance is the best he’s ever done, by far.

Read an interesting comment from an Indians prospect not long ago oto the effect that the Indians don’t care about home runs at all, they don’t think they’ll translate to the majors. They just care about OBP and hitting the ball hard. Trevor Crowe seems to have been a moment of this philosophy totally running amok.

His comments on Crowe were largely the fact that he has been hugely overrated because of where he was drafted and the only way that he was going to be a major leaguer was as a leadoff hitter in CF and his arm in CF was questionable and his speed has dropped enough that he isn’t a prototypical leadoff guy anymore, so his upside value is as a good fourth outfielder. He called him one of the most over-hyped prospects that he’s ever personally seen.

Yeah, that’s what he is now. I think we all realize that here.
Did you explain to him that it’s not Crowe’s fault? Because he had to play second for a while?

Well, Fielder is going to make $30 million over the next three years.
It’s a nice acquisition, but not much of a bargain.
Also: He’s fat and probably a liability at 1B.

OPS+ of 156 at age 23? Isn’t that exactly what you want your prospects to become? At two million more than we’re paying Byrd. I’d take him in a hearbeat, defense be damned. It’s not like Garko rocks or anything.

Hey, love the hitting, but he’s a defensive negative, and those numbers are from the 2007 NL.
He is what you’d like your prospects to become, but you’d like them to become it before they get a $10 million arbitration payday, and you’d like to have them for 6.6 years rather than three, and you’d like for Scott Boras not to be their agent.

He’s certainly a defense liability, but it’s my understanding that when your offensive production is that absurd you drive in waaaaay more runs than you give up on D. Perhaps I’m misinformed.
You certainly want all of the things you list in your second paragraph, but getting all of that is kinda the perfect storm of impossible production, development, and timing. His numbers are down a bit this year so far, but I think he’s a lock to post around a 140-150 OPS+ or something during those three years. I can’t find any fault in that.
