Building for the Future: 1B and 3B
What would it take to get LaPorta or Gamel from Milwaukee? Their big league club is loaded with bats, but needs pitchers. Both LaPorta and Gamel have demonstrated ridiculous power and LaPorta has been sending balls yard since his college days.

Obviously this doesn't fix our problems this year, and it would probably be half way through 2009 before one of these guys made it up...at the earliest. Is this a possibility for the Tribe, or am I smoking from Eric Wedges crack pipe?

Wouldn’t Milwaukee be more likely to move Bill Hall (http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=419416) who has publicly said he wants to be traded? The Brewers don’t strike me as a team that gives away young guys.
That would make Bill Hall very happy. Then again, Bill Hall would be very happy to leave Milwaukee and join the Tribe. We have the power to make Bill Hall very happy! Free Bill Hall!
But would Bill Hall make us happy? Would Russell Branyan? What is happiness?
Free Andy Marte!

Sigh. Does everybody have good position player prospects except us? Sure feels that way.
Yeah, yeah, young MLB roster, pitching depth, yadda yadda yadda. I want dingers! DINGERS!

Matt Gamel
projects to be a great hitter, but he wears a loaf of bread instead of a glove. He made 54 errors last year and he already has 12 this season through 54 games. He’s got great arm strength supposedly (like Ryan Braun), but he lacks accuracy resulting in errors. Because of that there’s doubt about whether he’ll stick at the hot corner in the majors. That said, his hitting ability is off the charts and his bat will probably play at any position.
sigh. “bat will probably play at any position.” what i would give for 2-3 of those.

More or less. Not as a first-round talent, but generally a formidable bat.
