Huff and Martin to Buffalo
"Lots of moves again today, the biggest being LHP David Huff being called up to Buffalo. This move is not official at the moment, but Huff is already en route to Buffalo."
"Also, RHP J.D. Martin was promoted from Akron to Buffalo. With Jeremy Sowers heading to Cleveland for his next start and Brian Slocum moving to the bullpen, the Indians need starters in Buffalo. Bad."

I’d say the odds are still against it, but obviously it just got a lot more likely.

I would imagine we’re about to see Steven Wright move up to Akron, Ryan Miller to Kinston.
Wright has sort of been doing a little David Huff Lite act down there, turning it on in his second full season. Not a prospect of the same caliber, but he was a second-round guy in 2006.

Given that each is leading their respective leagues in era, that should be a no brainer (Sowers, btw, is pretty close to the top in the IL). I found it hard to believe they got some guy from an independent league to throw into the Buffalo rotation before promoting Huff, but now they are forced to. It’s almost like every promotion is done kicking and screaming, weird.
There was an interview with the Lake County coach on Tony Lastoria’s blog on how they wanted to see a little better walk rate from Ryan Miller in the next couple starts before moving him up, that he still has some work to do. Last night, 1 walk in 5 innings, so we may see all these moves soon, post draft as rosters shuffle.

slightly off… Ryan Miller was just displaced today as the league leader in era. It seems Lord Kelvin de la Cruz snuck past him by default, 1.40 to 1.41

Kicking and screaming? The move you’re complaining about was on May 31. Huff ended last season as a 23-year-old in Kinston with a mediocre K rate, started this season with two trainwrecks — didn’t even have a quality start until April 16.
I am thrilled with how he’s done since then, but let’s not pretend that six hot weeks = promotion or else the team is stupid. That has no basis in reality.

I was referring to the general pattern of promotion under duress – guys getting boosts to a new level, including the big league team, more often due to necessity rather than performance. And yes, if my two-months-away-from-being-24 yr old first round draft choice is leading his AA league in era after a couple months of play, and a spot opens up in AAA, I promote him. I don’t waste time and money combing the indy leagues for someone who is absolutely nothing but a warm body to take that spot.
What’s the big deal and whose reality are we referring to? A few days later they’re forced to promote him and he does fine. Do you think he’s headed back to Akron anytime soon?

Is Wright still projected to be a reliever?

can we get JD Martin some time in Cleveland, just to say that one of those guys did?

Be careful what you wish for.
I’d like to see what he’s got. He’s have to be added to the 40-man. Because of his age I’d think it’s likely if he maintains this health spurt.

You could basically divide up all Indians fans into those who get this joke and those who don’t.
