This sounds too much like Sheldon Ocker to be right.

According to my research, you’ve got the strike out and knee injury correct, but Elden Auker never pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies, which is where the game took place.
I tried to make Paul Reuschel my Avatar, but he didn't fit into the box.

Jim Bivin, he of the career 2-9, 5.74, 1.77 WHIP line was the last man to face Ruth, and struck him out. Bivin played only one season (1935) in the majors, appeared in 47 games, started 14, and walked 65 batters while only striking out 54. But he was able to tell his grandkids that he struck out the immortal (albeit broken down) Babe Ruth.
