Reading between the lines, this doesn't look good.

No surprise really. When you go to Midas you get a muffler. When you go see a surgeon you get surgery. Hopefully – but unlikely – he’ll be ready for next year’s Spring Training.

I wouldn’t mind hearing a day-by-day account by the FO about how these injured progressed, because both injuries seemingly came out of nowhere.
Man this is devastating. He was looking better than ever. I think someone said it best a couple of days ago on here that all of these injuries will really show off our crazy depth when we still win the division.

I see you’re studying OB/GYN. That’ll difinitely take the romance outta your life for awhile.

It sounds like Hafner should have started the season on the DL. He’s saying that he couldn’t strenghthen his shoulder while he was playing every day (now he is doing it while he is on the DL). What was he doing in the off-season? Is he a lazy bum?

This can be a topic of dicussion if looked at on a team wide sense, Why was JoBo not DL’d at the start of the season, Why was Victor allowed to continue to suck and not heal properaly from his hamstring pull, etc. etc. etc.

10-14 months. wow.
did someone here allude to the new movement on westbrook’s pitches in spring (e.g. the report citing ‘some braves raved …’ by jay in the margin) as a harbinger of this injury? does that even make sense?

Yeah, that might’ve been APV. I watched that Braves game. Maybe he had a better breaking ball, but I thought his changeup was the best I’ve ever seen him throw in that outing. So if you want to take that as a harbinger of injury, then speculate away. I doubt it was, though.
I would be interested in knowing if he had been having increasing problems with the elbow, or if it’s just something that came up in the White Sox start.

And keep in mind that pitchers often don’t regain full strength until 18 months after TJ surgery. It varies from pitcher to pitcher. I would consider it a bonus if they got anything of value from Westbrook in 2009.

yes, tribejay, this is what makes it so devastating.
i guess the staff was ‘due’ for a big injury. it was great to see the training staff recognized last year, but much of what that award highlighted was our luck/ability to avoid a season-ending injury. so it goes. tag, we’re it.

Well it coulda been worse. Bonderman’s got thoracic outlet compression syndrome, which I think is what finished J.R. Richards career. It’s real hard to work on those auxiliary veins. At least Westbrook’s got a fighting chance at coming back – in 2010.

Sheesh For some reason my spell checker changed axillary to auxiliary – but you get the idea.

Haha I was gonna say if these veins are so auxiliary, could he not get by without them?

Hey Mario, did you see that Bonderman got a vein graft? When you get to the clinics try to scrub in on a vein procedure. I’m sure that they’ve got another way to do it by now, but sewing veins is tough – real tough.
