Richie Sexson Available!!
The Mariners released Sexson today. I think we should sign him for the half season to make sure he's wearing a Tribe hat when he goes into the Hall of Fame.

But, he’d take AB’s away from Dellucci!!

I’m in favor of signing him. What the hell, ya know? Garko ought to be in the minors right now.

Sexson could join Ensberg and for an All-Star corner tandem in Buffalo.

I completely forgot about Ensberg. That seems like i happened 4 years ago.

What Jhon says. The Return of Whiffy the Giraffe (as he was fondly known on cleveland.com).

I didn’t know anyone had fond memories of cleveland.com

It will be hilarious if someone picks him up while Bonds still sits on the sidelines.

At least Sexson could play right away, Barry needs 10 days to “warm up.”
It's the Arizona talking, really.

We just don’t have that kind of time if we’re going to make up ground.

The ESPN story on Sexson’s release (link below) says Sexson has struck out more than any other AL hitter since 2005. Second Place? Third Place? Take a look!!
I know, I know. Strikeouts don’t mean anything. And, Nick Swisher’s on the list too. But, it’s still funny.

Sexson’s #2 after Grady. Give the man credit for his patience at the plate. Granted Grady has 507 additinal PAs to go with his 10 extra Ks.

Totally agree we should pick him up. Send Garko back down and see if we can package Blake and Garko together and get a worthwhile prospect. I think Arizona or TB might actually give us something worthwhile and by that I mean maybe a real relief pitcher that can get someone out!

neither one of those guys would crack Tampa Bay’s starting lineup right now, so I won’t even bother looking at Arizona’s lineup.

Think of the All Washed Up Team we could put together in Buffalo:
1B Richie Sexson
2B Tony Graffanino
3B Morgan Ensberg
C Mike Piazza
LF Barry Bonds
CF Kenny Lofton
RF Sammy Sosa
SP Jeff Weaver, John Halama, Freddy Garcia, Roger Clemens, David Wells
RP Jose Mesa
We just need a shortstop.

We’ve already got my man Dan Reichart down there as a starter. No need for Clemens. He’s too good.

Wow you jinxed him good here.

So, if I say we should add Ryan Garko to the list, will he get traded too?
by peter m on Jul 11, 2008 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
To whom, and for what? At this point, I think we’d have better luck demoting him and hoping he comes back. Could he be another one of our undisclosed walking wounded?

I’m open to all ways of making Garko stop playing for us the way he has been playing for us.

If you’re going for the Washed Up Championship, I say trade Weaver and Halama for a true ace, like Mike Hampton.

How come more people don’t mention his middle name is “Lockwood”? That’s worth at least start or two in the Indians line up!
Wedge: [letting go of Casey's hand] I'll never let go, Casey. I promise.

It’s wonderful that we pick up every struggling vet in baseball. After all, all they need is a change of scenery, every one of ‘em.

He has been OPS’ing .822 the past few weeks. Not incredible, but certainly better than the rest of his season.

Sexson’s attitude was tipping point, manager says
“The manager’s got to be able to make a lineup out without feeling somebody’s going to be unhappy,” Riggleman said. “If we sat Willie Bloomquist and he was unhappy, we could handle it. But if one of your big boys is down in the dumps, that can take others down.”
Nope – don’t want him if he is going to sulk. But, there will be some team desperate enough to bring him in.
Anybody remember if he had this reputation while in Cleveland?

The only thing I remember about him was that he lived at Thome’s house for a while, which must have been a twang-fest like no other.
I also seem to recall hearing a story about Thome, having moved into said house in a ritzy sub-division, needing a reminder that it was no longer appropriate to discharge firearms from his porch, even if the buck was RIGHT THERE.

Ha! I think you’re talking of his house in Barrington Estates in Aurora – my mother lives in the area. I’m not sure people would be upset to hear gunshots today if he is aiming at deer; there are hundreds in the area and rarely a week goes by without my mother complaining about them when driving.

I was at Cedar Point over the All Star break one year and both Sexson and Thome were right behind me in line for the Mean Streak. I asked them if they hung out with any of the other players that much and they said that they mainly hung out only with each other and their wife/girlfriend

My grammar is poor today. Thome was married and Sexson had a girlfriend at the time (who looked like a female version of Richie)
