Mulhern, Reichert dealt to Pittsburgh
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have traded Bisons INF Ryan Mulhern and RHP Dan Reichert to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Sad to see Mulhern go even though he had no future here. Hope the best for him.

I suppose this may be to clear some roster space at Buffalo either for new acquisitions or to promote some guys from Akron?

I’ve never understood the idea that Mulhern is someone who’s in a bad situation (whether that’s “blocked” or not in an organization that’s desparate for a 1B or whatever).
I just don’t see why any hope or whatever was attached to him. He’s never done anything remotely impressive in the minors.
Not that this isn’t newsworthy or that I don’t wish the guy the best.

It was the 32 HRs and .640 SLG in 2005. But that’s it.

If that was all in AAA I’d get it. But doing that across A+ and AA at age 24? Meh.

Mulhern’s opportunity could have come had they started him in Buffalo in 2006 and he continued to do what he had done the previous season across Kinston and Akron. They didn’t, in part because this Garko character was sitting on 1B in Buffalo (and not doing well in 2006), and Mulhern played himself back to being a non-prospect in Akron.

and if you’re blocked by Ryan Garko, maybe it’s time to consider a career change.
You know Selig? Ombudsman.
