I was at the game today, and this was a truly electric moment, but not even the loudest applause he got on the day; after he struck out the side in the 9th, the place went absolutely nuts. Thanks for the horse.

I’m glad for the big fella that he’ll get to bat every fifth day for the rest of the season. He loves it, and it’s adorable.
Hopefully he keeps cranking the ball and enjoys the experience so much that he signs with a National League team this offseason. After all, we know how Young Steinbrenner feels about pitchers batting.

So are you officially the Brewers beat reporter of Letsgotribe.com? I’m done with that.

Thanks for the horse
are we going to get updates after every c.c. loss as well? neither or both. not one or the other. don’t be a reds fan.

Brandon Phillips went 2 for 3 the other day, FYI.

I’m not updating you about his wins and losses. I just figured that him homering (and a cool picture of it) were cause for a FanShot. Sorry for the disturbance.

not a disturbance. i like the style of what you do, and your contributions – especially on the other guys in the deal. it can just get old if it takes on a feel of rubbing it in. this is more of a preemptive don’t just rub anythink in the way people love to do with phillips.

You guys seem to have a genuine appreciate for Sabathia as a person and player (well, except for mauichuck), so when I post things like this, it’s more of “Hey, look at the cool thing CC did”, kind of like relatives sharing photographs and memories, than “Look at how awesome your old player is doing for us!”
He's extremely quick and good.

all of the above are dead on. my initial wording probably needed to be clear – this has more to do with not wanting to read more on Let’s Go Tribe about former indians than current ones – particularly when it’s only to point out how great they’re doing not as indians. again, preemptive – probably unnecessarily so – not in with respect to what you’ve done up do now.
also! i am not the boss of you.

I’d like to see more posts on how sucky the former Indians who suck have sucked. For example, I’m pretty sure neither Richie Sexson nor Ben Broussard hit a HR last night.

Reds fan here.
I’m curious what you’re referring to. Is there a Reds fan that comes over here daily and gives you Brandon Phillips updates?

OKAY, EVERYONE, CALM THE HELL DOWN
Time to make some rulings here.
1. The CC updates haven’t gotten old yet, and many of us have expressed our intention to follow CC and the Brewers down the stretch.
2. Having said that, it is likely that despite our lingering affection, it’s going to get old at some point to read about him kicking ass for someone else — or maybe just when one of us is in a crappy mood. (Brick — for the love of God, have some f’ing coffee.)
2. Having said that, it hasn’t gotten old, and not every CC start will be as noteworthy as this one … the huge HR swat, the complete game, the striking out the side with the score tied in the 9th … and the fact it’s only been a week since we traded him.
3. I don’t recall any Reds fans coming over here to bait us about BP. We bait ourselves about BP. That’s not to say that I like everything every Reds fan has ever posted, but let’s not confuse issues here. This is how pointless arguments are made — let’s just all chill out and rise about it right now.
4. Most of us are not in Cleveland, and Cleveland has never struck me as an uptight town. (Chuck, go ahead and weigh in as the expert here.) If you think we’re uptight here, then go ahead and just blame us directly. Ryan and I are tending to the open community here under certain rules and are comfortable with any criticism that might come with that. (Then again, as our colleagues, you might take a moment to consider our methods and appreciate the results — as we try to do on your sites.)
5. “Black Sabathia” — it’s funny, but as a simple headline with no context, it’s more uncomfortable to read than it is enjoyable. As the caption to a Black Sabbath photo with CC’s face photoshopped in, it would be more funny than uncomfortable. battlekow, this wasn’t any big deal, but any writer has to take responsibility for mis-reading his/her audience.
6. Bottom line, though, we basically have encouraged battlekow to post stuff like this, at least implicitly, so at the very least we shouldn’t get bitchy about. We’ve had a great, positive interaction with him and the whole brewcrewball community this month, and everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Can I get a gavel on this?
by Jay on Jul 14, 2008 4:26 PM EDT 0 recs
But for the record, I think that whole double #2 thing is likely grounds for an appeal.

Eh, the uptight thing was just a one-off. I should have chosen my words better; I was just surprised that the race card got played (or rather, that I was interpreted to have played it). My apologies. Henceforth, please note that if I happen to refer to Casten Charles as Black Sab(b)athia, that it commemorates his crushing at the plate and Sabbath’s crushing riffs, not the color of his skin. For the record, and at the expense of further derailing the discussion of how CC is a stud who hits bombs, I’m really pleased at the amount of African-American star wattage the Brewers are wielding. It can only be a good thing for what is widely acknowledged to be one of the most segregated cities in the country.
I’ll try to limit the Sabathia stuff, and indeed had thought to myself already to try to limit it, sensing point #2 (the first one) myself, but this was just such a singular, epic moment that I felt it warranted posting.
Thanks for the kind words from everyone regarding my contributions, particularly about the prospects. I love following the minors and am always up for chatting about them, if you feel like dropping in at BCB and asking a question.

why has this become so blown out of proportion?
it’s going to get old at some point to read about him kicking ass for someone else
ALL i was trying to say.
There absolutely has been Phillips baiting – was that last year, i think after he had a homerun or two in a game a guy came over? and there was another time i can’t place. and i noted that often times it’s the indians fans doing it. whatever the case, nothing could be older. When I read “thanks for the horse”, i MISread the context as nose-rubbing.
and i love stuff like this. as i said, i loved the posts on brantly, and laporta – and i love that he uses pics and videos – i wish we did that more here.

And this is the one I used to use as my signature on a message board way back when:
