Black Sabbathia? Really?

by KevinV on Jul 14, 2008 7:22 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, why did you write that?

Should it be taken down?

by JulioBernazard on Jul 14, 2008 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I wrote it because his name is Sabathia, he is neat, and Black Sabbath is neat. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin and everything to do with my desire to hear “Electric Funeral” played at the ballpark.

He's extremely quick and good.

You really don’t get it?

didn’t think the payoff was worth the weirdness

by JulioBernazard on Jul 15, 2008 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t see the weirdness.

/shrug.

If the bands name was Sabbath, and he called him Black Sabbathia, that would be weird. Being that the band’s name is Black Sabbath, I don’t get the unusual part of it. It’s not a play on CC being black. It’s the first half of the band name Black Sabbath and the last half of CC Sabathia’s name.

Thank God you kept this extremely useful and interesting conversation going.

Have I ever mentioned that being an editor sucks?

I get the reference, I know that no malice was intended, but the title’s been edited.

by Ryan on Jul 14, 2008 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Guess Cleveland is a little more uptight than Milwaukee. Why does having to edit my post make being an editor suck?

He's extremely quick and good.

Why does having to edit my post make being an editor suck?

Forget it, it was just whining on my part.

by Ryan on Jul 14, 2008 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Cleveland more uptight than Milwaukee? I’ve spent enough time in both cities to say Milwaukee doesn’t compare with Cleveland when it comes to being uptight. You can walk down Euclid Avenue smoking crack with your pants around your ankles, no problem. You can drive on the sidewalks. Try that on Wisconsin Avenue.

If Sabathia actually worked on the mechanics of his swing, he could hit the ball a very very very long way

by APV on Jul 14, 2008 7:48 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, that he’s been able to crush home runs despite getting an average 6-8 at-bats a season is amazing. Compare and contrast what he’s been able to do with Andy Marte, for example.

by Ryan on Jul 14, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Sabathia’s OPS+ is 211 this year. Career .511 slugger.

It does make you wonder if he would have come up through the NL what his numbers might look like.

by Toxicadam on Jul 14, 2008 11:37 AM EDT reply actions

If you go to HitTracker and look at the Indians homeruns, CC’s (off Chan Ho Park in LA) really stands out. In “true distance” it’s the 2nd farthest this season at 440 feet. But unlike the other long homeruns, CC’s was a total line drive (elevation angle 29 degrees, all the other long home runs are +32 degrees). A little loft, a little more kinetic continuity in his motion, and CC could be blasting them out of stadiums.

by APV on Jul 14, 2008 11:40 AM EDT reply actions

Not only that, his HR was at Dodger Stadium-not exactly a launching pad-under neutral conditions. Yeah, CC can crush.

[deleted, yes, read the ground rules]

by Ryan on Jul 14, 2008 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

ok i read the ground rules, and i didn't say anything outta line

So hey, umm....do you guys mind if I have this fruit roll-up?

by chandrathan on Jul 14, 2008 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

It may be time to edit the ground rules a little, since all they say is that trolling is not much of a problem any more now that registration is required. You’d have to be a bit of an iiot not to infer that trolling is against the rules, however.

by FredOx on Jul 14, 2008 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to belabor the point, but I think our definition of trolling (or flame-baiting) is straight-forward

Posting incendiary content (posting “Sabathia is a fat slob” multiple times would qualify) in order to get a reaction out of other posters will not be tolerated.

OK, I’m done with this. Time to talk about baseball, not the site.

I enjoyed my comments back at him though, now they are lost until the release of “Too Hot for LGT”

Pinch hitter? Should have started him at first base.

Il faut d'abord durer.

by CU Adam on Jul 14, 2008 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m just gonna choose not to waste my life moping about the past and be glad he gets to hit now.

No, I can’t do that. If he signs with an AL team I’ll go crazy again. I lack perspective.
