He can do no wrong in my book. I saw him hit the game winning HR in the eighth to beat the Yankees. It’s all good after that.

yeah, i can see that…except he is the worst player on a 25-man in baseball right now. i have a hard time getting past that.

are we talking pure pitching ability? or factoring in contracts, etc?

at the same price? CC
The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.
Yep same dollars. And I’m dead serious. I think that the chances of CC burning out are higher than Cliff losing his mojo. I like Cliff’s fire. I’ll bet you if he wouldda pitched against the BoSox last year we’d have a WS championship trophy back in Cleveland
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
i’d have to disagree. same price it’s gotta be CC. he’s younger, better stuff overall, more proven over a longer period. we’re fawning over Cliff, and rightfully so, but he wasn’t even on the playoff roster last year.
by DontCallMeJoey on Jul 2, 2008 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions
You think the 2007 version of Cliff Lee (he with the ERA over six) would have won us the ALCS? I don’t remember you advocating that at the time…
Well yeah a little over the top. After all Cliff was injured. But I just don’t think that a healthy Cliff would have gagged the way CC did. His play-off performance was very, very disappointing to say the least.
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
For the same price, you’ve gotta be kidding me that you would take Cliff.

no doubt. still a mental midget. he’s improved his composure on the mound, but he’s not exceptionally clutch. at least not so far.

they should hire a coach who focuses on hitting to correct things like that

Just looked at the lineup … has Gutz sucked (even more) lately or something? Why is Dellucci DHing? That’s ABSURD. BenFran should be DH, Choo can’t be worse in left than right, and let Gutz play right. I don’t understand what Wedge is doing this year. At all.
Il faut d'abord durer.
by CU Adam on Jul 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT reply actions 1 recs
Yeah, I’m sure it can be rationalized, but does anyone feel that this is the right move? That we’re a better team because Dellucci is getting at bats and not Gutz?
Il faut d'abord durer.
so we moved Michaels out instead of Dellucci b/c:
a. we thought dellucci could help us win more games
b. we though we could get more for michaels
c. michaels’ contract was easier to unload
which is it? i have no idea, but my guess is c.?
by DontCallMeJoey on Jul 2, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, if Dellucci is in the lineup, then he should be the DH – his arm is awful, and his range isn’t very good either.
But as to the question of whether he should be in the lineup, that’s another matter….
point one: very true.
point two: there is no earthly reason this guy should be getting ABs at this point

I think Shap gets a bad rap for “sitting on his hands” in the off-season. He added two good players to a roster of young guys that was one game from the world series. Sure, we needed a corner OF bat .. but that probably would have cost us Laffey/Lee to make it happen.

way to go, human suckitude machine.
The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.
Kelvin Diaz continues to maul DSL pitching, to the tune of .400/.560/.960. He is, on the other hand, 21 years old, assuming the birthdate is accurate.
That’s all for me, need to pack. Go Tribe and if this is it for big C, it’s been truly a joy. I’ll never forget seeing him win Game 3 of the ALDS in his first big league season against the M’s in person at the Jake
It’s weird that there isn’t the anger directed at CC, isn’t it? I mean, think of the vitriol directed at Belle, Manny, and Thome. I realize every situation is different, but it’s pretty clear that we’ve mellowed collectively in a way.

It just dawned on me that, besides playing a spoiler later in the season against teams I dislike, (without looking at a schedule, I’d assume we have some games against playoff hopefuls in September), this might be the last Tribe game of the year where I really want to win, more than just because it’s more fun to watch a win than a loss. It’d be nice for CC to get a W, if this is going to be his last start with the Tribe.

our lsat 3 series are against Det, Cws and Bos.
The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.
Spectacular. I would give a LOT for the Twins to be within a couple games at the end, and the Rays and Sox tied, and then have the Tribe end the season on a 9 game winning streak.
Conversely, can you imagine how fun those series would have been if we were in the race at the end? That would have been awesome.

One for the “Things I Freaking Hate” File: Steinbrenner runs his idiot mouth, and the Yankees respond with 18 runs. Life is not fair.

I know… that’s what I said when I saw the box score.
Both of our minor teams (Buff and Akron) are starting to hit the snot out of the ball.
Grady sez: “There — I jacked one for you, no L in your final start. Now we’re finished — you can get the fuck out of my clubhouse.”
No, I just banned myself.
Had an irritating day, and this feels like our tenth irritating game in a row. Watching this season has gotten to be like sleeping on a bed of nails.

The Garko lunge makes a return visit.
I used to know a Garko guy that hit 30 doubles and 20 homeruns .. he played for the Indians not too long ago.
zz
Hahah .. too perfect. AJ fu-ing Pierzinski
Whats that? 31 (?) homeruns the bullpen has allowed now?
Wedge said he would be in meetings tomorrow to decide what decisions to make, including the closer situation and JoBo.
We’ll see who’s gone by Friday.
I like how Hammy had a mocking tone knowing this team was done and about to get blowed up (hat tip to Emmitt Smith).
The 2008 Cleveland Indians: Home of the Triple Steal, Unassisted Triple Play, and not a heck of a lot more.
Really it should have never come down to the 10th. We had bases loaded a few times (Choo on 3rd with no outs) and that Casey Blake error.
Just a bad team not doing the little things.
maybe its time to forget all i’ve learned and start hoping for more grit.
Kevin @ Black Shoe Diaries
Jay reassure me here, there’s no way we DFA Marte, right? We haven’t lost all semblance of common sense have we?
Of course it would make no sense, but I’m just very afraid that in some twisted way they see him as part of the problem. It’s sad that I have such little faith in all things Shap, but I just don’t know anymore. I feel lost.

Unless they get Laroche from LA in a deal, who is going to play 3B?
If they get LaPorta, he needs time in AAA and will play 1B or LF. Gamel won’t stay at 3B either.
As obvious as it seems to ship Blake, I wouldn’t put it past them to keep him aboard as some sort of team-building exercise. Geez I’m actually nervous for these moves. Just let it be over.

Pride of North Olmsted gets 2 consecutive victories over the Indians.
His father called into WTAM post-game show last night and was a very nice guy and a long-time
Indians fan, who took his son to many games at the Jake.
How much do we think these errors are bringing down Casey’s trade value? Sure he’s hitting, but teams have to be a tad concerned about his fielding, no? Can we DH him until he gets traded to stop the bleeding a bit?
i don't know if we can do without dellucci's power
we might fall out of the race.
Kevin @ Black Shoe Diaries
Ponson et al gets 18 runs in support after Hank S. blasts the Yanks’ offense.
Of course, the Yanks were losing until the Rangers brought in a raw rookie in the 7th.
So I’m totally pumped to go to the Cell… expecting Jason Fucking Stanford or somebody to take the hill instead of the recently traded Sabathia…. well not quite. Fine. Still treated to Dellucci make outs twice with the bases loaded (the 2nd time I’m screaming at Blake to swing at absolutely anything to maybe get a gift hit and avoid Dellucci, nope, he walks, whatever).
Of course this is the time where Sabathia doesn’t quite have it in the early innings… no big deal, we seem to be stringing things together against Contreras. Well, not for long I guess. Francisco decides to swing on 3 and 0 with a runner on 3rd and nobody out… love to hear how he had the green light.
Wedge comes to the mound to finally relieve Sabathia… great, I can finally applaud the big left hander after he leaves the mound… uh not quite, I guess he decides to pull a Grady Little, let’s make him over-extend with a pitch after he’s thrown 120!!! So much for that opportunity in emeny territory.
Well, Grady homers again and I hit the road. To another fucking loss. There is no keel on this ship, there is no rudder, there is no pulse. Sweet dreams Tribe. Thanks for even making C.C’s probable last start another trash bin effort.
