heh, I see Wedge banking on a lot of balls in play:

G. Sizemore
J. Carroll 2b
B. Francisco dh
C. Blake 1b
S. Choo lf
K. Shoppach
A. Marte 3b
F. Gutierrez rf
A. Cabrera ss

Best defensive lineup of the year?

by Ryan on Jul 22, 2008 9:34 PM EDT   0 recs

i worry about francisco handling lined foul balls right at him when he’s in the on deck circle as DH

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 9:50 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

True….he’s last in the AL in Range Factor for DH’s. Of course, that’s a small sample size.

by Buckeye Brad on Jul 22, 2008 10:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That’s only because Pronk is on the DL.

Most audition-y lineup of the year?

by bentausig on Jul 22, 2008 9:45 PM EDT   0 recs

Ginter v Weaver…this one could get ugly.

by obobcatu on Jul 22, 2008 9:55 PM EDT   0 recs

how come we never have wine discussions

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 9:58 PM EDT   0 recs

Because beer is better than wine, and we don’t have very many beer discussions.

LGT's resident beer connaisseur.

by LGT Patrick on Jul 22, 2008 10:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m hope for both.

Any shiraz and Dortmunder, personally. Had a good oatmeal stout at the Winking Lizard yesterday.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

See this is what I’m trying to say. Oatmeal stout in JULY?

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:14 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The air conditioning was on. I don’t like wheat beers that much.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Weihenstephaner? Paulaner? What about Ommegang Witte?

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I get a little nervous about the silt on the bottom of the bottle.

But screw the Miller Lite Man Laws (as if Miller Lite has a say in it), I like an orange in my wheat beer.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That silt is the healthiest thing in the bottle—nutrients. Filtering removes that stuff.

by PatBordersHelmet on Jul 22, 2008 10:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don’t drink beer for the nutrients, I’m afraid to say.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, what Pat said. Not silt, Vitamins. I usually let it all settle and then shoot it.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Besides which, I don’t think Weihenstephaner or Paulaner have much sediment. Reinheitsgebot and all that.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i’m gonna go with steel nick on this. inside, it’s not summer. on a beer garden, it’s different.

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 10:25 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I couldn’t disagree more vehemently. If we were in the same bar right now, we would shout about this for an hour.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, go on. Make your case.

I drink beers as my taste deems fit. If I could find a Christmas Ale right now you bet your ass I’d be savoring it.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i had A LOT

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 10:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t argue you over to my side, it’s a matter of taste. I’ve never enjoyed any dark, high-alcohol beer during the summer.

You, and apparently everyone else, do not have this problem. I really thought it was a generally accepted taste guideline, people I drink with seem to observe it, but LGT is telling me otherwise.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i’ll drink a stout or a porter outside in 90% weather. it’s like how in india they drink hot tea all the time.

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah. good beer is good beer. i like it. i don’t really follow the guidelines.

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 10:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

and 90 percent weather is awesome

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that was some combination of degrees and humidty in my head that came out like that

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That reminds me of the Cliff Clavin explanation for why they drink cold beer in the winter. Something about its affect on the circulation in the body actually warming you up. Long and rambling….its was Cliff Clavin.

His reason for drinking cold beer in the summer? “What else are you going to do with it?”

I miss Cheers.

by Buckeye Brad on Jul 22, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I just can’t get behind this. If it’s cold outside I drink a full bodied beer, if it’s hot I’m drinking lagers at like a tenth of a degree above freezing.

I’m very temperature sensitive i guess.

Hey it’s gorgeous tonight here in chi-town, isn’t it?

by mrich on Jul 22, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

FINALLY, a comrade. Thanks.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Can we all just rally behind Beer Is Awesome.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

POOP for no question mark.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

OF COURSE. If I can be brutally honest, the best reason I have for wanting to come back to Cleveland, and/or going to Chicago, is to meet some of you guys and go out drinking. F baseball, I’m in for the drinking. If we can combine them, all the better.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

as long as there’s a preparty where GFP and Mario get rocked in advance. i want to see that show.

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 10:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe we should start calling Vegas hotels and see about getting a group rate.

For my bachelor’s party we stayed at the Imperial Palace. Can’t get much cheaper than that.

by Buckeye Brad on Jul 22, 2008 10:45 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Good gravy, they haven’t torn that place down yet? We stayed there when I was about 11. It sucked.

by fleerdon on Jul 22, 2008 10:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Did you get your room comped when you were 11?

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I didn’t, but my girlfriends all did, and anyway I was just there for the booze.

by fleerdon on Jul 22, 2008 10:48 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It was a decent place to sleep. Also, they had cheap blackjack tables by the pool.

After all, it’s not like you go to Vegas for the hotel room.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 11:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah. i had a great run, and i’m between the weather and all this talk, i’m inspired to crack open a black out stout.

by Brick. on Jul 22, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that seasonals are seasonals for a reason, and I understand when stouts and wheats and whatnot are meant to be drank. You’re following the proper rules, don’t worry.

But I would also drink red wine with fish. Anarchy, I know. They should lock me up.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

All right, now I’m the following the proper rules guy. Not really where I wanted to end up. However, I will say that I’ll drink red wine with anything. So I’m with you on that.

I'll continue to try and relativize this by appealing to taste again.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

......”by appealing to taste.” that says…..

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i feel like stuff white people like should do something on this

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 10:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Don’t give that dude any more ideas.

by NickFantana on Jul 22, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Surprised they haven’t.

I just saw the one about women with bangs today. I laughed.

Steel Nick

by nickjs21 on Jul 22, 2008 10:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

you see the unpaid internship today? oh god i almost cried

by Gradyforpresident on Jul 22, 2008 10:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

But more importantly, internships teach white children how to complain about being poor.

Steel Nick

What show are you guys talking about?

by Buckeye Brad on Jul 22, 2008 10:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Never saw that before. I’ll have to check it out. Sounds quite funny.

by Buckeye Brad on Jul 22, 2008 10:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I disagree. An extra-cold Guiness is one of the more under-appreciated summer drinks.

by APV on Jul 23, 2008 10:59 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m about 12 hours late to this conversation, but I’ve been drinking more wine of late (probably a girlfriend thing…also I like wine). I’m more generally a fan of full-bodied, spicy red wines (Shiraz and such), but I’ve had some really nice New Zealand Sav Blancs lately that have been great. Real grassy/bell peppery tastes. Great for the summer.

by APV on Jul 23, 2008 11:04 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

(probably a watching the television show Girlfriends thing…)

by afh4 on Jul 23, 2008 11:28 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hey…Girlfriends isn’t that bad sometimes. A friend of mine used to date Golden Brooks.

by APV on Jul 23, 2008 12:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just as long as it wasn’t Golden Richards.
