Casey has his own Category!

• Phil 'er up again: Could the Phillies still deal for a bat? Not impossible. But it won't be Matt Holliday. Yes, they looked into it, but they were scared off by the price tag before they even made an offer. Ditto on Nady. An official of one club that spoke with the Phillies says they're more focused on a "Casey Blake-type" bat, but pitching remains their top priority.

later in that article...
Casey-mania: You can add the Dodgers to the list of teams interested in Casey Blake, who is beginning to look like the bat most likely to get traded in the next week.
Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.

this article is great... (using the subject line so much isn't)
• Mystery pitcher of the week: What do you do when your team finds itself 19 runs down in the eighth? Send a guy like Tony Pena Jr. to the mound, of course. That’s what the Royals did Monday—and Pena spun off a dazzling 1-2-3 inning, threw seven pitches clocked at 90 mph or faster and even struck out Pudge Rodriguez.
“Tony Pena can pitch,” Tigers coach Andy Van Slyke told Rumblings. “He might have a longer future as a relief pitcher than a shortstop.”
...
Asked to compare Burke to Pena, Van Slyke told Rumblings: “Comparing Jamie Burke and Tony Pena is like comparing a new iPhone with an old iPhone. They’re both very useful. One just works faster. They both have functionality. One’s just got a lot more megabytes.”

The D-backs should trade for Pena, put him in the bullpen and become the first team in MLB history to have two pitchers with the same name.

There were two Bobby Jones. Bobby J was a righty who made an All-Star team. Bobby M was a lefty. And both pitched for the Mets in 2000. Looks like they both pitched in the same game on Sept 6, 17, and 28
Oddly, there were two Jeff D’Amico pitchers at the same time as well

There were two Bob Millers on the infamous 1962 Mets.
In fact, they both appeared on “To Tell the Truth.” When Bud Collyer asked for the real Bob Miller to please stand up, both 1 and 3 stood up. No one got it. No panelist, that is. A snotty kid watching at home had it all the way, though.

Both pitchers, I should add. Known in the box scores as R.L Miller and R. G. Miller.

I feel like I should be more excited about this, but I’m really not. Maybe it’s because of all the CC trade excitement that preceeded this.

or maybe its because there is nothing remotely exciting about Casey Blake, not his play, not his beard, not his potential absence.

That’s a good point, actually. Casey has played so well that even getting rid of him is no longer that exciting.
Then again, it might get exciting when we find out what we’re getting. Slightly exciting, anyway. Taylor Green exciting?

In this case, I like the Rays. With the number of okay-looking guys, it’s at least decent odds we hit on one of them, right?
Although what would we do with Gomes?

Gomes? You mean Jessica?
The Indians seem to make a point of trading with teams that have overall depth or depth at a certain position, presumably because that makes parting with a certain prospect less painful for that team than it would be for another one. That being the case, the Rays would seem to be a contender to acquire just about anyone they want from the Indians.

I still find getting rid of him very, very exciting.

Paraphrasing Mary Astor, there are five stages in an athlete’s life:
1. “Who’s Casey Blake?”
2. “Get me Casey Blake!”
3. “Get me a Casey Blake-type!”
4. “Get me a younger Casey Blake!”
5. “Who’s Casey Blake?”
I guess Casey has reached stage 3 now.

Feeling lazy, so I’ll throw this here:
Did Huntington get enough for Nady/D Marte?
by JulioBernazard on Jul 26, 2008 12:13 AM EDT 0 recs
Probably.
Tabata is a weird prospect. He’s sort of the Yankees’ Asdrubal Cabrera. I don’t understand why he was pushed into AA at his age.
