Crowe to Buffalo
The guys over at swerbs say that Crowe was promoted after today's Akron game.
In other news, LaPorta's kinda slumping.

Laporta’s tenure with Akron has been so short that if he were to go 4/4 in his next game, like Crowe did the other day, he’s hitting .300 in Akron.
Maybe he should move out of Hodge’s joint and into a Red Roof Inn or something.

Seriously, the guy is a millionaire pro athlete, and he’s sleeping on a couch.

Crowe has earned the promotion, and it’s to the team’s credit that they made him earn it. But the timing seems a little odd. LaPorta will be leaving to play in the Olympics soon. Garko has been dispatched to Kinston. It leaves Akron, a team headed to the playoffs, kind of exposed in the outfield. Meanwhile, what does Crowe do when Buffalo’s season ends on Labor Day? Report to Cleveland?

Goleski, yes. Garko, no. Sheesh. Thanks, guys.

Goleski is only down to clear ABs for LaPorta, at least according to the Akron’s radio guys. He was supposed to come up as soon as Matt left for Beijing, which is like Sunday.
So, Akron will get Goleski back ASAP, I guess.
Not that it really matters. At all.

It certainly matters to the team’s ownership (and the locals) how Akron does in the postseason. The Indians are in the habit of doing right by their affiliates whenever they can. Those are key relationships for the club.

I didn’t mean to imply the Indians don’t want the Aeros to succeed. To clarify, I meant Goleski to Crowe is probably not going to be the difference in their chance for success.
That said, the Aeros have lost 8 of 10 and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of reason for optimism. LaPorta has never gotten going there and is going to the olympics and their incredible first half was built on the successes of Giminez, Stevens, Newsom and Huff. In the second half, you’ve basically got Toreagas and Rondon holding down the fort with a little Stephen Head and Trevor Crowe mixed in.
Goleski is not a good prospect but he is an OK AA player, despite what some people have been throwing around here lately. His OPS is .745; Crowe’s is .890. However, Goleski is a decent bet to improve at the AA level. The difference in OPS is probably going to be around 100-140 points.
Certainly it weakens the team but, within context, I don’t really think it matters. Akron is nowhere near the team they were in the first half.

Hello Andrew,
One minor correction to your analysis – Rondon hasn’t been to AA yet, so he’s not holding down the AA fort at this point (maybe in the coming weeks, perhaps).
I’m thinking you must mean Scott Lewis, who has been close to lights out in Akron in most of his starts. Edell hasn’t been as good, but hasn’t been as bad as, say, Lofgren, who seems to have been moved to the bullpen.

I think they were ready to promote him when he got hurt. Then they wanted to wait for a few games after he returned while he showed he was healthy (at least for now).
Cleveland wouldn’t shock me. If not, then why couldn’t he go back to Akron for the playoffs?

Hello Ken,
I could see Goleski moving back to AA Akron – either Goleski was demoted to work on his swing (I think Jon Nunnally is still down at Kinston – not sure – and it seems many talk about how he has worked with several of the Indians’ young hitters) or they are trying to give Goleski a wake-up call to start focusing more and not pout about having a taste of the big leagues and then finding himself back in AA in an organization that has many OFers.
Speaking of OFers, perhaps Drennen or maybe even Weglarz could get a promotion to Akron to compensate for both Crowe and LaPorta missing from Akron? I think it’s possible, though probably not likely.
If I recall correctly, I haven’t seen much of Jose Constanza recently – I presume he’s still in the Indians’ organization? If he was injured, perhaps he’s coming back soon, and he was having a solid season, a bit similar to Crowe’s, though not quite as “good,” and may help to fill the gap left by Crowe and LaPorta.
Let’s hope Crowe can keep hitting at Buffalo and LaPorta finds himself again – it’s probably difficult with all the happenings that are occurring in LaPorta’s life and career at this point that a bit of a dropoff is not to be unexpected. Presuming he stays healthy, he’ll likely bounce back in time – we just need to be patient. :-)
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, indiansfan. Constanza’s been on the DL with a strained left shoulder for about 3 weeks. Sardinha, Panther, and Head are the other outfielders at Akron.

Hello Ken,
You’re welcome!
Ironically, I seen Constanza’s name in the boxscore, DHing, so I suspect he is the immediate addition to the roster, though I suspect they’ll ease him back into OF action (provided he can return there right now – maybe he still can’t).
But, yes, they have the three mentioned, plus probably have at least one other they could put out there in an emergency situation or as a “jack-of-all-trades” type player, perhaps one that the Indians want to evaluate. I’m not sure who that might be – Pinckney (though I don’t recall him playing the OF)? Maybe someone else?
Just my 2 cents.
