Garko’s in the lineup, so no Marte.
No Dellucci either – the four actual outfielders are in the lineup.
The outfielder crashed against the wall but hung on to the ball to make the catch. He fell on the ground, appearing to be injured, and flipped the ball to the CF to throw it in.
He’s being taken out on a cart.

He’s wearing a neck brace and is on a stretcher.
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 25, 2008 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions
He appeared to be holding his back after he fell to the ground. Maybe he injured his neck/back. It’s amazing that he made the catch, though.
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 25, 2008 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, it’s pretty bad. He just got taken out on a stretcher. Looks to be something wrong with his hip and/or lower back.
Yeah. I included “neck” because they put a neck brace on him, but that’s probably just a precaution.

Hernandez seems to be grooving the ball tonight
by millionairesrow on Jul 25, 2008 7:33 PM EDT reply actions
Interesting thought…..but what does that have to do with this game?
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 25, 2008 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Hamilton was talking about Carmona returning to the rotation, and the Indians have said that Ginter is sticking around.
Oh, gotcha. Did they say if Sowers or Laffey is going down?
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 25, 2008 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I thought about that earlier. Ginter isn’t part of any long term plan with this team unless something really bizarre happens, but Laffey probably needs to be and this is a perfect opportunity for him to be in AAA, if that is what is going to help him.
Il faut d'abord durer.
And sending Laffey down might also have something to do with service time, although Jay would know about that. I know he’s written about that but I don’t remember Laffey’s situation off the top of my head.

Just a comment on Hernandez’s stuff tonight, he’s leaving everything up and in the middle of the plate

Has a Cy Young winner ever come from a last place team? I can’t think of one
by millionairesrow on Jul 25, 2008 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I remember A-Rod won an MVP with the Rangers, but I can’t think of a Cy Young winner from a last-place team.
I remember hearing somewhere Steve Carlton had one season where he won like half the games for the Phillies. Not sure if he won the Cy though.
Shoppach’s play has continued to impress me. Anyone else think he will be the starting catcher in 2009 with Martinez at 1B?
Cliff Lee
Man what a surprise he has been, Just think at this Time last season, Lee was a Headcase, Remember He Gave up like 6 Runs and then a Jerkoff Move Tipped he hat to the fans, Unreal what this guy has become, Hopefully they dont Trade him Like they did CC.
I hate to play the what if game, but just imagine if Lee had this kind of season last year
sniffle
by millionairesrow on Jul 25, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions
I wonder if he’ll have a pitch limit tomorrow
by millionairesrow on Jul 25, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions
The Indians have absolutely no reason to trade Lee.
by Buckeye Brad on Jul 25, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Not a Knock against Tribe Nation, but ya think with how well Lee has been pitching this year, the Tribe would be up their in second or first in the division.
Oh, and in just general baseball news. Nady and Damaso Marte to the Yankees. Haven’t heard for who, probably some serious prospects, maybe Kennedy and Austin Jackson, something like that.
wow. I’d consider unloading Ohlendorf addition by subtraction.
Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.
Peter Abraham is reporting via his blog that Phil Coke, a pitcher at Double-A Trenton has been pulled from his game. It’s expected, but not confirmed, that he is one of the players headed to Pittsburgh. I’ve also just learned that Ross Ohlendorf and at least one other player, perhaps two, will be the cost of Nady and Marte.

Maybe Pittsburgh’s society can revive Kennedy.

My buddy saw Jhonny and Gutz at the bars on West 6th last night. Good to see they’re not too hungover.
Your buddy should take them drinking there every night … they’re a triple away from the cycle already.
Il faut d'abord durer.
He told me he would have bought them a drink if he could understand what the hell they were saying. I guess they were speaking espanol the entire time. Which makes sense.
can’t you just use gestures and signals in this case? and i would so buy jhonny a beer, he’s so tight
by Gradyforpresident on Jul 25, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Isn’t that funny when you think about it? The buying them a beer, not the speaking Spanish. I mean, I don’t know about anyone else on the board, but relative to my salary, Peralta and Gutz make about a billion dollars. They should be buying your buddy a beer.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Manny and Alvaro Espinoza bought me and some buddies burritos in Ohio City back when I was in high school.
Il faut d'abord durer.
any manny encounter is exciting as hell
by Gradyforpresident on Jul 25, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, it was fun. He was still young, it was the fall of ‘95. Right before the playoffs, we heard a rumor that Manny and Alvaro had been at the same taco place a few blocks from Ignatius almost every day. So we snuck out at lunch and went over there, and they had just gotten in line. We got in line behind them and starting talking to them, and Manny counted us all up and just got us all burritos without even asking what we wanted.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Also, my buddy reports there were not rolling with hotties. In fact, he says these girls were decidedly “meh”. You’d think a guy worth millions (Jhonny) and his buddy worth a few hundred Gs could pull some golddigger hotties.
well, jhonny’s married (right?) and gutz. well idk what the hell his problem is.
by Gradyforpresident on Jul 25, 2008 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Married as well.
Frank reportedly is one of the more fluently bilingual players on the team. Jhonny’s English is akin to his backhand.

Yeah, but he just talks with his eyes, Adam.

You’ll have to check it on HitTrackerOnline tomorrow, but I imagine its speed off the bat was pretty ridiculous.
by fleerdon on Jul 25, 2008 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions
i want to be excited about gutz’ good game. but he’s hitting .225
by Gradyforpresident on Jul 25, 2008 8:18 PM EDT reply actions
Fortunately for Frank, he’s the best defensive outfielder in baseball on one of the worst overall teams. I think he’ll get plenty of time to right himself.
by fleerdon on Jul 25, 2008 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
I hope so, because even if he is the best defensive OF, there aren’t enough bats on this team to make up for that kind of hitting. He needs to be up around .270.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Honestly, if he could just manage an 800+ OPS against LHP, he’d be a great platoon partner/fourth outfielder. We could at least afford to keep him on the roster if and until he pieced it together.
Let’s remember, though, for 2008: Bryan Bullington is on our 40-man. I think there’s room for Frank.

Twins are dead in the water. Granted Livian is a terd, but this team will be a second half fader. If only Tigers and Pale Hose can join them… Have a good night guys. I’m watching both the Yanks-BoSox and Tribe on the internet. BTW, Lee is a dream to watch this year. Not to jinx it but I would like to see how his season matches up with CC last year.
Go Tribe!!!
From BP:
Update: The final package from the Yankees is Ross Ohlendorf, Jose Tabata, Phil Coke, and George Kontos, according to multiple sources. Rotoworld is reporting a different set of prospects, including Austin Jackson, so I continue to follow this.
That first package is a joke. Not that I think Nady is all that great but still.
tabata looks appealing. he’s not even 20 and in AA

Incase you are all wondering, Im Not Just a Twins fan, Im a Tribe Fan by Heart, Born and spent 8 years of my life in Cleveland.
This Span Kid Looks Pretty Dang Good, dont know why the Twins chose Gomez over him coming out of Spring Training.
Are you guys to the point where you’ve accepted Cliff Lee is just good? Or are you still waiting for the other shoe to drop, like me? I don’t think I’ll be able to trust this until somewhere around the All-Star break next year.
Il faut d'abord durer.
i gotta say i trust him at this point.
by Gradyforpresident on Jul 25, 2008 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s getting to the point where it’s more probable that he’s good than that he’s bad. Not saying you’re wrong, but you’re getting less and less justified in your beliefs in 5-day increments.
by fleerdon on Jul 25, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions
I guess I should have said that Cliff Lee is this good. It’s definitely more probable that he’s good than bad. Maybe I’m just losing the ability to be as optimistic as I once was, but I keep thinking there’s no way he can keep this up.
Il faut d'abord durer.
I mean, his K-rate is good, but not stratospheric good. He’s staying in control by not walking guys and by keeping the ball in the park. That means he’s staying in the zone, but still beating guys—if he’s not doing that with actual talent, then what is it? Roids?
by fleerdon on Jul 25, 2008 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I understand that logic says he’s pretty good. But Cleveland Sports Fandom, or some illogical part of me that’s been impacted by 28 years of this, says it won’t last.
Il faut d'abord durer.
All I’m saying is that this is far more than serviceable-to-solid. It’s a Cy Young type season. I haven’t accepted that Cliff Lee might be a Cy Young caliber pitcher. Every time he takes the mound, I am both excited to watch him pitch and nervous that this might be the night that I keep fearing—the night when he just gets pounded, which is followed by similar outings. I’m ecstatic that he’s pitched this well, and hope that it continues in a season where we can take advantage of it. I’m just afraid that it won’t.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Took me a while to catch up.
How about the first inning. 7 Lasers in a row off of Hernandez. Garko steps in. Lazy pop-up to end the inning. next inning starts with gutz. Laser over the left field wall.
DISPEND WEDGE

I put all the blame on wedge. Cliff is pitching lights out and was only at 108….why doesn’t he start the ninth? Wedge is over managing the pitching staff, and it’s been costly.
Uhh, 108 is a lot of pitches. Big picture, Cliff Lee winning this game means squat compared to Cliff Lee blowing his arm out.

Winning a game in a season when we’re out of contention. Completely useless.

Can anyone else not believe that Jair Jurrjens is actually a good pitcher? When he came up and kicked our asses last year it was like “oh, great – another bum who we can’t hit because we only hit Verlanders and Santanas”.

I’d agree if we were in the hunt. As for my dispend wedge comment, I do hate him, but just wanted to use that line.

There was A LOT of the old Tribe in tonight’s game. Hitting early, but letting the SP off the hook. Our SP pitches brilliantly only to see the bullpen almost gack up the game.
We won, but I didn’t like what I saw.
Twins with two two-out hits with RISP. Indians looked clueless after second. Should have knocked Livan out in the third. The Tribe had to use two relievers, which will hurt tomorrow when Fausto is limited to 90 pitches. And the Twins don’t use a reliever at all, though Bonser threw a lot of pitches in the bullpen. Not a good night.
