/OT & not worth its own FanShot I guess, but did anybody catch Will Ohman of the Braves doing his best Harry Caray/Will Ferrell while introducing the lineups on yesterdays FOX broadcast?
Good stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMwhzdEkVN8
God I hate these commercials with the dude in the grey suit at Las Vegas with all these tight girls on his arm and cool brosephs laughing at all his jokes.
Since we’re down on his defense, and Pronk won’t be back for awhile, why don’t we ever discuss DH’g Jhonny, at least against LHP, shifting Droobz to short and playing Carroll at second?

So, I just put Firefox on my newish computer and gameday isn’t working. I updated flash and all that. Does anybody have an answer?
It opens the page and then just sits there, nothing the box where gameday goes.
What are you talking about Manning? The difference between AAA baseball and MLB is widening?
What kind of evidence is there for that?
Well that’s going to be cool.
It’s also going to be awesome in 2009 when the final Cy voting goes:
1. Fausto
2. Lee
3. Sowers
it will go nice with Grady’s MVP and the World Series title.
You forgot Gutz’s Gold Glove and Marte’s Silver Slugger, but I like the way you think.

Dodgers – Drysdale 1962, Koufax 1963
Yankees – Lyle 1977, Guidry 1978
Orioles – Flanagan 1979, Stone 1980
Brewers – Fingers 1981, Vukovich 1982
Phillies – Carlton 1982, Denny 1983
Braves – Maddux 1995, Smoltz 1996

I’ll be honest, I’ve been thinking of a clever saying for Denard Span along the lines of “Spahn and Sain and pray for rain” for three games now….and I’ve still got nothing.
Andy, that is one unintimidating pair of sports goggles. Nice play though.

I’d have a passing interest in watching Grady bat second if we had somebody competent in front of him. I think third is very overrated—more than a third of those first inning plate appearances, you’ll be up with two outs and nobody on.

Anybody have the league average OBP for leadoff hitters handy? I’d like to know how our best OBP players would match up. I’m not sure Choo gets on base quite enough for the top. I didn’t follow Brad’s Grady in the 2 hole thread, but I have always thought third would be more suited to his abilities than 2d. Of course, with Wedge managing, I can’t believe Marte isn’t batting second and bunting Grady over every game.
"Lotta heart in Cleveland." - Ian Hunter
by Denver Tribe Fan on Jul 27, 2008 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions
I know that the tradition has always been to bat the “best hitter” third, but the three guys who wrote “The Book” did a study and found that your best hitter should hit second and your second best hitter should bat fourth. Then put your best hitters first and third. This lineup will maximize run production.

Why was LaPorta sent to Akron instead of Buffalo? By the time the Olympics are over, the minor league seasons will be pretty much done. So he will have no AAA exposure going into 2009.
I don’t count on him next year, but it’s nice to think it could happen. Why no AAA this year?
Because he wasn’t going to play much anyway, and Akron put him in driving distance of the Cleveland brass and press.

Hmmm. I don’t like the diving distance part. I realize he wasn’t around very long anyway. I assume he comes up after September 1.

Went running this morning with my buddy from Boston, who was bitching about the plight of the Red Sox. I know.
Anyways, we were talking about Ramirez. At the risk of starting a Grover-esque debacle, how far down would he consider discounting for the Tribe, and how far do you think he’d have to go for there to even be a chance? And would anyone else want him on the team?
For the record, I think it’d take a big “hometown” discount, but I’d want him on the team with a two year contract if he’d cut the price significantly.
Il faut d'abord durer.
Of course I want him on the team.

The way Garko is swinging lately, your hate is entirely rational.

Here’s my second guessing: Wedge seems terrified of having to use his DH in the field. During interleague games, NL managers would use a DH in the field, and sacrifice the position. With the Indians bullpen, would the pitcher’s spot ever bat? Did Wedge really worry about having to bat Tom Mastny in the 13th inning with two outs and a runner in scoring position? Put Grady back in the outfield (presumably he isn’t hurt or anything) and give up the DH! Play for the win. Isn’t that better than having Francisco play center?
It was certainly in the Span-Gomez area where they’ve made catches already in this series. Grady and Gut would have had a chance.
Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.
