SSS, but promising nonetheless.

In Buffalo: 6 G, 16.2 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 12 SO, .155 BAA, 1.03 ERA. My basic reaction has been “hey, maybe he doesn’t suck. Bonus.”

Palcal,

You might want to give full names next time when you talk about Indians players. Maybe you don’t know that Chris de la Cruz is a fungable middle infielder who got traded, while Kelvin de la Cruz is one of our probably top 10 prospects. Your going to give me a heart attack here.

No kidding, I was like “all he has to say about that is de la Cruz traded? Jesus.. oh wait.”

Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

count me in the “fooled” crowd too. I almost crapped out a cinder block.

You know Selig? Ombudsman.

Cord Phelps is making his debut in Mahoning Valley tonight. He’s hitting 2nd, playing 2B, and is 2-3 with a double so far.

I’m hoping he moves through the system quickly. Got to watch some of the C(ollege) W(orld) S(eries), he’s a good-looking ballplayer.

No more writing about Phelps, as he was hitless in 6 PAs (1 BB) after you posted that.

by FredOx on Jul 29, 2008 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions

How about, no more writing about Phelps, there is nothing less significant than how a hitter is performing in his rookie-league debut, one month after being drafted out of college and after one week of using wood bats instead of aluminum.

Get back to me in a year.

Duh. If this were last year, we’d have relevant things to talk about. When Byrd is traded, we’ll have relevant things to talk about, and when the Olympics start, and when Manny does something stupid. For now, we’ve got Phelps, Meloan and the toxins in Wes Hodges’ apartment. Let’s talk about Matt McBride now.

Uhh, is there something we should know about Walter Diaz? He’s a 42nd round pick from 2007 who just went from the NYP to Buffalo?

What?

by afh4 on Jul 27, 2008 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

D

iaz, 23, has made the Triple-A level after just 19 professional games. A 48th round selection by the Indians in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Diaz has hit .288 (17-59) with four doubles and nine RBI for short-season Mahoning Valley of the New York-Penn League.

Yeah thats pretty crazy….

by hans on Jul 27, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

this must be a temporary thing…my guess is in a day or two someone from Akron will get promoted and Diaz will get some back down to wherever he belongs

by APV on Jul 27, 2008 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions

with Cord Phelps finally ready to play, Diaz might as well go up 4 levels to fill the hole left by Gonzalez temporarily

by palcal on Jul 27, 2008 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions

What?

Why don’t they just move Niuman Romero up?

Ah well. I’m sure there’s some logistical explanation.
