I agree…westbrook, what exactly did you expect them to do today?

Oh, and I hope they’re not bringing Lewis up. He stil sucks.

He’s had a few good outings lately. If his velocity is up, then I’m ok with it. If not, then I’d rather go with Slocum or Stevens.

And the outing before that he gave up 2 ER on 3 BBs and a hit. Does that one not count? He’s got 20 baserunners in his last 18 innings.

It counts, but is it not notable that after allowing four baserunners in that one inning, he only allowed two in his next six innings combined?

OK, all I meant was that he has had a few good outings lately – which is true. And yes, he had some stinkers before that. So to spell it out for you, he’s had more success in last 4 outings than he had before. I haven’t seen him pitch, so I have no idea if he’s throwing the ball better or if it’s just luck.
Sheesh.

Whatever .. as long as I don’t have to watch Joe slingshot an 84 mph meatball up there anymore, I am all for it.

So you guys are all right with today’s “changes” being Rick Bauer gone?
Borowski isn’t being released. He’s being taken out of the closer’s role. Which means we’re back to where we were when he was hurt.

why even bother? if we can’t get anything for him, dump him and let mastny and mujica pitch regularly to see what they have. this is dumb.

Well, Bauer wasn’t the solution. His innings and probably some of Borowski’s go to guys like Mastny and Mujia. Maybe a few of other AAA guys get a shot because of it.
On Borowski, he actually hasn’t been embarrassing since he has come of the DL. If he can string together a couple weeks around a 4 ERA, maybe we get a PTBNL for him.
This is all the first in a series of moves, no doubt. But the bullpen sucks right now and we need to evaluate what we have there.

I”m not saying getting rid of Bauer was a bad move… not at all, actually. What I’m saying is: I expected more of a message to be sent to this putrid team. More than the 25th man on a 25-man roster being DFA’d.

I gotchya. But thats just not the way this front office works. IT seems like they have given up on the season within the last few days. Its going to take awhile (a couple days) for them to be ready to make any more major moves.

I agree that a “message” would be satisfying, but seriously, what’s the point? The season is tanked, everyone knows they’re playing for their pride, their personal stats, working on getting better in general and in some cases, auditioning for 2009. Maybe they haven’t acknowledged that to themselves completely just yet, but they certainly will when the trades start happening.

What about Bob Wickman? Seriously. Let him pitch the rest of the year and see if he still can get runners out. Wouldn’t hurt and he would probably be cheap. Much better odds of him catching on than a Juan Rincon.

Maybe it’s just me, but Borowski hasn’t been THAT bad since he came off the DL in late May. I just find the timing of this all a little curious. If the Indians weren’t going to be able to trade him with him at least picking up some saves, I doubt they’ll be able to move him if he’s in middle relief. Unless, maybe, the logic is that his blowups will be that much less epic. I guess, even when dealing, Borowski wasn’t going to fetch anything…so why live with it any longer?
Maybe you just put Betancourt into the role and see if it magically clicks for him.

Hasn’t been THAT bad? The stats may not be horrendous, but he’s been the recepient of some prettty outstanding luck in the field.

I can’t decide if I’m more excited about this or that girl who promised to streak at the Cubs/Cards game after the 4th inning.
Erm, yes I can.

Bauer certainly isn’t the answer, but how many days should relievers sit in between appearances?
I did a Google image search for "Andy Marte." It turned up zero results.

Because our manager is THE Eric Wedge, we’ll always have 2 guys in the pen who never get to work.

Bauer went to Texas, but I bet the manager told him to stay home a few other times. Don’t bother coming in tomorrow Rich. We won’t be needing you.

Oh Hoynes…
“Sabathia, Paul Byrd, Casey Blake and Borowski can be free agents at the end of the season. Blake is performing the best out of the four and might be the most attractive to a contender.”
Unreal.

That is pretty amazing. C.C. has been the best pitcher in the majors for the past 11 weeks:
ERA leaders with IP, K, BB, unearned runs
1.97 – Duchscherer, 87.0, 53, 19, 5
2.14 – Danks, 84.0, 69, 22, 1
2.16 – Sabathia, 104.1, 109, 20, 2
2.42 – Volquez, 89.1, 97, 42, 7
2.51 – Lee, 97, 81, 16, 1
2.53 – Lincecum, 99.2, 100, 38, 4
