What a weird script they used at the top.

by afh4 on Jul 30, 2008 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

CC going to Chicago next year confirmed.

by Toxicadam on Jul 30, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Would’ve been damn cool if they had used the Indians cursive font for this name.

by supermarioelia on Jul 30, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

It’s the same script Matt Walker used for the Pitcch In Foundation, and in the same general vein he used for other similar logos, such as Nick Swisher and Rick Ankiel.

by FredOx on Jul 30, 2008 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Also from his official website. I remember thinking it looked pretty “West Coast” when he sent out his public letter this off season.

by kwoog on Jul 30, 2008 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Also Matt Walker’s work. Walker is the chief designer on the ESPN Fantasy stuff, and has created a nice little niche for himself creating logos and websites for athletes.

by FredOx on Jul 30, 2008 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions

His web designer must not have gotten the memo (check the title tag)..CC!

WAIT! I thought he was open to signing back with the indians in the offseason!

by Brick. on Jul 30, 2008 10:24 AM EDT reply actions

That’s really nice. I wish baseball didn’t have economic inequality.

by NickFantana on Jul 30, 2008 10:26 AM EDT reply actions

+1 here as well!

The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

Goddamn I miss him already. I miss him in an Indians uni a hell of a lot more than I ever did Manny or Thome.

by mrich on Jul 30, 2008 10:35 AM EDT reply actions

What a class act. I love the big guy.

Burn on, big river, burn on...

by Turkmenbashi on Jul 30, 2008 10:43 AM EDT reply actions

Hmmm...

Interesting. Im from Miami, and Jason Taylor did the same thing in the Miami Herald the week he was traded. Last week in fact.

I’m looking forward to Casey Blake’s full page ad. I believe it’s going to be a giant picture of his beard and it will say “I’ll be back.”

by ASP on Jul 30, 2008 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

haha

yeah. the bearded one shall return

by Maverick05 on Jul 30, 2008 10:50 AM EDT reply actions

CC! As if I could miss you more.

by Joe. on Jul 30, 2008 10:53 AM EDT reply actions

don’t fall for c.c.’s manipulative games. he knows fans eat this kind of thing up. he’s just trying to make sure he doesn’t get booed when he comes back to pitch against the indians after he left for the money. our only leverage against players leaving for the money is threatening “The Jim Thome Treatment.” c.c. knows if he can remove that fromt the equation he can live the rest of his life guilt-free.

by Brick. on Jul 30, 2008 11:39 AM EDT reply actions

Boo.

I’m going to have to Boo Brick here too. Boo Brick.

by drerikbrady on Jul 30, 2008 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

you guys take this stuff too seriously. “our only leverage”. i thought this read as pretty blatant satire.

by Brick. on Jul 30, 2008 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Satire or sarcasm on the internet is kinda hard to pull off sometimes. Maybe people just think of you as a sourpuss?

by mjschaefer on Jul 30, 2008 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Brick pulls it off pretty solidly and consistently.

by Jay on Jul 30, 2008 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I disagree.

OR DO I?

by afh4 on Jul 30, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

You wouldn’t dare.

by Jay on Jul 30, 2008 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions

i never take anything brick writes seriously

also, of note from the PD article (my bold):

another of Jacobson’s clients, bought an ad in the San Francisco Chronicle, thanking fans and the city of Oakland, Calif., when he was signed as a free agent by the Giants before the 2007 season.)

It could very well be that Kathy Jacobson is good at her job.

You know Selig? Ombudsman.

by rolub on Jul 30, 2008 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

crap, a last-minute edit cut the beginning of the quote:

But such public displays of affection from players are rare (although Barry Zito, another of Jacobson’s clients, bought an ad in the San Francisco Chronicle, thanking fans and the city of Oakland, Calif., when he was signed as a free agent by the Giants before the 2007 season.)

You know Selig? Ombudsman.

by rolub on Jul 30, 2008 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Why would we boo him? He was traded? Sure he didn’t take an extension, but he’s got a chance to be the highest paid pitcher ever.

The guy was the best pitcher the Indians have had in a long time. Anyone that boos him is just dumb. He played his ass off here and he’ll play with that intensity where ever he goes.

“PS….letsgotribe.com: Go to hell. -C.C.S.”

by fleerdon on Jul 30, 2008 12:43 PM EDT reply actions

No reason. I’m just fond of the idea of a professional baseball player harboring a grudge against community blog.

I want to MATTER, Andrew.

CC: “Thank you Cleveland for drastically underpaying me for the last few years of my contract. Now it’s time to make some real money.”.

by Toxicadam on Jul 30, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

“See ya! Wouldn’t want to be ya!”

by odradek on Jul 30, 2008 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I have far too much love for the city of Cleveland to allow the Indians to grossly overpay me for the next five years, particularly when I can get someone dumber to vastly, grotesquely, obscenely over pay me for the next seven years.

Fixed.

by Jay on Jul 30, 2008 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Thank you CC for being such a first class act. Cleveland will miss you both on and off the field.
