In other news, I have no idea what the hell I am doing when it comes to FanShots.
So much for trading Shoppach.
Post it as a link rather than a quote.

hahaha. i flagged your ass. mainly because i suspect flagging doesn’t do anything. it’s like when buildings have a “beware of dog” sign or “protected by security system” sign when they have neither. it’s just to make us all feel safer.
Ryan and I can see the flags. It’s helpful, especially when we don’t get to read a whole game thread.
Actually, there’s nothing I could do to fix the main problem, which is that this is the “wrong kind” of FanShot.
When you first create the FanShot, there are a series of tabs above the area where you enter in the text. You use those tabs to select which type of FanShot you want to post:
Link – Quote – Image – Video – List – Chat
If you click on “Link” it becomes really easy to post a link to an article or news item like this. You just paste the web address into the “URL” box.
This is basically the only way to post a link without fiddling around with the HTML.
That’s.. bizarre. You’d think they could’ve gotten a little more for Pudge considering his reputation & the fact that he’s only a rental. Kyle Farnsworth seems pretty blah to me.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
Hello zempf,
It’s probably because they had Farnsworth back in 2003 and because they still feel they can reach the playoffs this year (I think they’re teetering a bit – if they don’t make a move within the next few weeks, I think their postseason chances will be very slim, being that there are two teams ahead of them, and at this point, the Wild Card likely will not come out of the Central).
Just my 2 cents.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
Yeah, I can somewhat understand that, but I’d think there are Farnsworth-caliber relievers out there for a lower price. I suppose the Tigers get a bit of salary relief out of this (though Farnsworth’s getting something like $5m this year, so it’s not actually that great, maybe $3m or so), but Pudge is likely to be a type A free agent & in theory the Yankees can offer him arbitration & get 2 draft picks if he signs with someone else.

Hello zempf,
I agree with you that it seems a bit odd – I don’t know how long Farnsworth is signed for, but I don’t think he’s that great of an acquistion, as his track record of keeping his command for long periods of time is suspect. And, if his command goes, he won’t help their bullpen.
Plus, while Pudge’s defense has declined a bit from his prime and Inge isn’t bad behind the plate, Pudge is probably still the better defensive catcher, plus has hit for a better average, albeit with little power. Therefore, their offense may take a bit of a hit, and their offense has been inconsistent. Plus, as you mentioned, they could have gotten two draft picks for him if they had kept him.
If they really wanted to trade Pudge, you would have thought they would have gone with younger, cheaper talent for either their farm system or for their ML team (perhaps Jose Veras or a player or two like that), rather than the “great arm, but iffy command” Farnsworth, who, if I’m correct, is also a free agent after this season. That makes this trade even more strange – I’m not sure Farnsworth will be a Type A free agent after this season (he was a Type B after 2007, so I’m not entirely sure if he would be an “A” – don’t know where to find this info.), so they wouldn’t get the same number of draft picks as they would have if they had kept Pudge.
Perhaps Jay is correct – it was for salary relief, though $2.5 million doesn’t seem like much relief, in baseball terms at least.
Just my 2 cents.

By the way, I like the “Free Marte” icon. :-)

Oh yeah, I’d actually forgotten about that. I guess it’s served its purpose now, I should come up with some other “witty” saying to stick in there.

I stopped buying Hot and Ready pizzas out of spite. That probably singlehandedly brought down the empire.

Thinking about changing the title of the thread … something like
YANKEES ACQUIRE ROTTING CORPSE OF HALL OF FAME CAREER … AGAIN.
So I see the Tigers are making Brandon Inge their starting catcher. I’m wondering how that’s going to work out for them. The article says he hasn’t played catcher, at least with any regularity, since 2003. I hope they know if he can still handle himself behind the plate, or they’re going to look pretty silly. Not that Pudge was that great any more, but at least he’s experienced.

He’s already caught in 23 games this year with no incident. His bat isn’t as good as Pudge’s but I doubt he’ll struggle back there.
OK….guess I missed that. Thanks for the info.
