We actually got a new one for once?

I kinda liked it when we had to post in like “Indians-Royals, May 13, 1998”

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:25 AM EDT   0 recs

June 3, 2007.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:28 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

isn’t the game suspended if the inning going at 12:50am ends in a tie?

by palcal on Jul 31, 2008 12:25 AM EDT   0 recs

What? No way. This can’t be true.

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:26 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope so, I’m sleepy.

I thought there was a curfew rule only in one league. But I can’t remember which.

But the game is only suspended. There are no ties in baseball.

There is a curfew rule, but it says “imposed by law”—does Cleveland have a curfew?

Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

by zempf on Jul 31, 2008 12:28 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

you’re right, for a long time the AL did not have a rule like that
there were some changes involving suspended games last year but I’m not sure exactly what they are

11am Thursday start time, it is now 4.30pm, great way to spend a Thursday, tomorrow’s game starts at 4.05am I think.

One day I'll get over to watch the Tribe play

I’m flying to the CDT on Fri – will this game end by then?

by FredOx on Jul 31, 2008 12:29 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

3 threads for a crappy team. We are teh lame.

by FredOx on Jul 31, 2008 12:26 AM EDT   0 recs

I’m kinda proud.

by mjschaefer on Jul 31, 2008 12:27 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I was just going to let that thread continue, but I thought, we really deserve a third thread.

Damn Shoppach for hitting that homer in the 9th!

they’ve used 192 baseballs this game according to underpants and manning

by obobcatu on Jul 31, 2008 12:30 AM EDT   0 recs

Have the Indians contacted the farm to send some bullpen reinforcements for tomorrow’s game?

by palcal on Jul 31, 2008 12:30 AM EDT   0 recs

Probably.

Could see Meloan?

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:31 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Rundles. Donnely.

They all got used tonight too.

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:32 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

marte loses the game 2 times.

by obobcatu on Jul 31, 2008 12:30 AM EDT   0 recs

I don’t blame him for not throwing home, it’s not a guaranteed out by any means.

Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

by zempf on Jul 31, 2008 12:31 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You’re right. I’m still upset about last inning.

by obobcatu on Jul 31, 2008 12:31 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He throw s home, the run scores and there’s only 1 out.

by FredOx on Jul 31, 2008 12:32 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No way he could have made the play at the plate. Runner on first was going and now way to get the DP. He played it as well as he could have.

by Denver Tribe Fan on Jul 31, 2008 12:32 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This is absolutely pathetic. I am going to see these guys in 11 hours, and THIS game may STILL be going on.

HATE.

why dont you make that throw home? its the effing 12th inning.

by Kevin HD on Jul 31, 2008 12:31 AM EDT   0 recs

ya, its probably time for me to get to bed…

i think the OSU-UM chant is about to send me to bed

never mind, that throw sealed the deal for me

by Kevin HD on Jul 31, 2008 12:33 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Because it’s not a force play, and the catcher has no chance to set up.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:32 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmm, maybe there was a reason that Casey Blake was playing 3B all season.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:34 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Stop being such a pessimist. Marte’s defense is obviously much better than Casey’s, from day 1.

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:35 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed, but he is still raw, and he shouldn’t be this raw. He cost Sowers on Sunday also.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:37 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Dave, are you even watching this game?

Marte looked totally smooth and made the correct play.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:38 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think he should have went home. You differ. That is fine. But I’m not alone.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:40 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Willie McGee

Resident LGT beer kinda sewer

by mauichuck on Jul 31, 2008 11:10 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The “raw” characterization is a hallucination.

Marte almost always looks good in the field, and he makes plays that Blake couldn’t make four years ago and can’t make now.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:41 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes he can make plays that Blake can’t but he still gets eaten up on some groundballs. He has soft hands, but always seems to be going backward when fielding ground balls. He should be better than that with his skills.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:46 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Dave … let’s not. It’s late.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:49 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not a problem. I was just answering about my “hallucination”.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:58 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m digging this.

As bad as Marte’s ungritty DP was, you gotta think about how many slick plays he made throughout the game that Blake…just would’ve miffed. His defense is one of the reasons we didn’t lose earlier.

by joeee on Jul 31, 2008 8:28 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Did he make the right play Sunday?

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:41 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I didn’t see Sunday’s game.

by Jay on Jul 31, 2008 12:42 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

sowers could have fielded that and thrown to marte for the out at third.

Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.

by westbrook on Jul 31, 2008 12:42 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I love when people pick out particular plays and posit “This player is losing baseball games.”

It’s so BBTN.

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:43 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My whole point is that there were good reasons that Blake was playing 3B all this year before the season collapsed. Something that the majority of this board could not understand.

BBTN way overdoes it, but yes, you win games by making plays, and lose them by not making plays. I haven’t been paying close attention recently, but can you name 3 instances the entire year were Marte has specifically helped the tribe win a game? I cannot even name 1.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 12:55 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

In the last 10 days Marte has hit a homerun in a game the Indians won 5-2.

Tremendous eye roll.

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:58 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Why the love?

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 1:03 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

3 instances the entire year were Marte has specifically helped the tribe win a game?

What are you talking about? What do you want? You want them to play Andy Gonzalez at 3B? You wanted them to hold onto a valuable guy who’s deal is expiring so we could enjoy watching him finish out a decent season?

You’re harping on incidental, debatable and anecdotal things about the play of a player who doesn’t even have 400 career ABs.

The rest of us are supposed to be on board with your philosophy of saying Marte is “too raw” because you can’t “remember when he specifically helped the tribe win a game”? As opposed to, you know, watching the games and looking at the numbers and seeing some reasons for optimism?

Or what, you want a bunch of people to send apology notes to Casey Blake?

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 1:12 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m dumbfounded. Despite my literally 100s of posts on Andy Marte, you really still do not have a clue on my position on Marte and the 3B problem that has faced and faces the tribe in the past, present and future.

by oxforddave on Jul 31, 2008 1:28 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

What do you want right now?

You just want to complain, right?

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I actually posted about that play during Sunday’s thread. I argued that it was Sowers who screwed up that play.

Andy gets a double, a single, and a walk! And plays good defense all night!

by afh4 on Jul 31, 2008 12:33 AM EDT   0 recs

There are a lot of silver linings in this game. But it sure would’ve felt good to win it.

Groundout, popout, strikeout, walk, GIDP with winning run on third.
